To say NO! to the backyard bungalow builder's latest application?

Got a letter from planning today.

Neigbours finally got round to applying for planning for the humoungous fence they put up in the summer.

It is there to stop us seeing what is going on in the gym house they builit in their small urban back garden.

The fence is ugly and very tall. It is attached to the fence that we already have which is the regulation height so its is totally unecessary (apart from to act as a screen).

I dont like it, it impinges on my garden and my neighbours have behaved like total bastards over the bungalow that they should never have built.

What do I say in response to the letter. Are any of my lovely planning people around to advise on the wording?

If people are not familiar with the bungalow saga they can see pics in my profile.

You need to get Planning Officer around about 2am - stand outside the 'gym' and shout Fire!

If they run out in their jammies you're sorted!

Letter sent.
Twighlight zoneishly they came round today to look at the fence.
I dont mean they came round in a weird way, just that it was weird that they came round today, on the same day I sent the letter.

I forwarded it to my Counciller too just to remind her. I put in about the bungalow looking very occupied in my email to her.

I added a little bit to the letter to Planning. I asked them to note that there was already a well maintained fence that afforded sufficient privacy and security for both properties (something like that anyway).I also put in that we had spent time and money adapting the garden for DS and since the fence went up he has refused to use the garden on a several occassions (this is true) because he doesnt like the fence and it upsets him. I snuck in a 'In fact since our neighbours began the extensive building work in their back garden our enjoyment of our own garden as been considerably diminished to the point that we rarely use it'.

Because I am fed up of ignoring the fecking great elephant bungalow in the room garden

I kept chuckling at the thought of the dept getting that letter and thinging WTF?! How the HELL did she write this Grin

Thanks so much for your help.

I will keep you updated.

I've never posted before but have been reading - it's outrageous, it really is. Hope you get some good results from that letter!

hevak · 17/01/2012 18:41

MrsDeVere I am also giggling at the thought of the council/planning staff getting your letter and thinking "WTF? How did she get so knowledgable so fast?"

Not giggling at your bloody horrible neighbours though. I lurked on your last thread(s) and I wondered what was going on... not much unfortunately.

Wouldn't it be a shame if the "gym" got damaged when the giant fence is pulled down...

dawntigga · 17/01/2012 21:26

Must know what happens!

Sorry to read that you're still having to put up with your feckless neighbours. For what its worth, if the application does go to committee, and you get the chance to speak (the council should write to tell you this), request that members have a site visit before making their decision (if they do that in your area). Any fence over 2 metres would be out of character in a residential area, and (despite anything they may have put in their application)the neighbour doesn't seem to have a good planning reason for the need for the additional height. I've used phrases such as 'visual prominence' and 'of a scale incompatible with its surroundings' with some success in similar cases...even when it only impacts on one or two neighbours...good luck...

TalkinPeace2 · 17/01/2012 23:21

Mrs DeV - the queen of planning jargon :-)

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 18/01/2012 08:08

Haha - I had to think very hard when adding my own paragraphs so they didnt stick out like a sore thumb. I tried to make them sound all official and knowledgeble Grin

I see there's another DM article about shed-renting. No mention at all about the impact on the blameless neighbours.

WelshMoth · 18/01/2012 08:47

First post on this whole thing MrsDeV, but wanted to add my sheer indignance at your wanker neighbours support to your campaign.

They are total piss takers. All power to you.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 18/01/2012 08:54

Thank you welsh your supportive words are much appreciated Smile

Roxy I cant bear to bloody read those things because the comments are usually supportive of the people living or building the sheds (unless they are Johnny Foreigners of course).

Would these people really not mind people living in their back garden? I suspect they would get a leeeeetle bit annoyed if their neighbours did it to them.

OP posts:
RoxyRobin · 18/01/2012 09:19

He is a Johnny Foreigner, so comments not entirely supportive, as you might imagine! Though some admiration expressed for his enterprise Hmm.

You're dead right - if it happened to them they'd have an instant attack of NIMBYism.

ReindeerBollocks · 18/01/2012 09:47

I've been wondering what happened about that bloody bungalow.

Can't believe they put a huge fence up to stop you monitoring their bungalow.

Have you got a video recorder, which you could use to film the use as a bungalow? Might be more sufficient than pictures.

The thing that surprised me about this thread was the kindness of MissMB and Jins and all the other planning people, helping you out. How lovely. And if the legal jargon doesn't work we can have a massive party in your garden and just accidentally destroy the fence, and possibly set fire to the bungalow.

That's just what happens at a good garden party isn't it?

coraltoes · 18/01/2012 09:47

Oh you poor love! I have just looked at your photos and am frothing on your behalf! What the fuck do the council think they a allowing?! Who the fuck are your neighbours?!?!

You know the outlet pipe for gas or whatever it is? It isn't allowed to face your property...I had one re route on a block of flats that was built at the bottom of my garden. Bloody tempting to block it and fumigate the lot of them out!

snuffaluffagus · 18/01/2012 11:19

GO TEAM MRSDEVERE!

That was me being a cheerleader.. but yes, I hope they take notice of you!

Lambzig · 18/01/2012 11:25

I have been lurking on all of these threads, but didnt post as i had no way to help, but have just been really shocked that oeople can get away with building that hideous thing - so not fair.

However, I just wanted to say Mrs Devere that you have my total support and admiration for how you have handled this. Your neighbours are horrendous people. That letter is fantastic, if it doesnt work and the fence come down, my whole faith in the planning process will be destroyed. MissMarjori and Jins are amazing.

EqualStevens · 18/01/2012 14:05

Great letter! Hope they sit up and pay attention!

MissMarjoribanks · 18/01/2012 20:46

Oooh, update. Glad the letter has gone to planning and I'm sure your extra bits were fab. We just have to hope your planning officers agree with us. You've done all you can now.

It is also good news that they paid your neighbours a visit yesterday, shows they are keeping an eye on it and it is in the diary for regular visits.

In an ironic twist, I'm about to send a strongly worded objection letter of my own. An extension constructed entirely of roller shutters... Confused Shock

JestersHat · 18/01/2012 20:49

If this continues - get yourself a solicitor.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 18/01/2012 20:56

OOOOh bet that looks nice Miss

Are you sure it isnt some sort of art installation?

My mind is truely boggling Shock

If you want me to write you a badly put together but hugely sweary letter just let me know...

OP posts:
MissMarjoribanks · 18/01/2012 22:34

Grin I'll refer to it as an 'installation' in my objection letter. I was tempted to pepper it with swear words as quite frankly it is a fucking travesty, but I'm going down the professional and I wouldn't grant this if it came before me in a million years route.
