I can't sleep

All I cam hear is rain lashing down and what sounds like a force 9 gale.

In the morning I will have to go in search of my bins and some fence panels....

I want the wind to bugger off, it makes me anxious.

Same here. Sat in the kitchen waiting for to roof to peel off like the top of a tin of sardines.

iamboredwithmylife · 05/01/2012 02:28

No, YANBU. I'm trying to sleep to no avail. It sounds like someone is breaking in downstairs with the bins going as they are. Every hour or so the DC's wake up with it too.

Leave us in peace, wind. I can't be arsed to run down the road after my bin which gas taken up residence outside the local pub.

LineRunner · 05/01/2012 02:34

Have you got the tin cans rattling down the road, too?

iamboredwithmylife · 05/01/2012 02:38

Oh yes. I think I have everything but very resilient cats down my road.

Those poor outdoor cats :(

LineRunner · 05/01/2012 02:43

My cats are doing that in and out of the cat flap thing, bless 'em, like they can't quite believe it.

OnSantasLap · 05/01/2012 02:46

Can't sleep here either. Nit sure what will go first - the conservatory roof or the huge sodding tree in hedgerow opposite house. Car alarms going off too Angry

Worried about DC's getting bus to school tomorrow (double decker) Sad

iamboredwithmylife · 05/01/2012 02:46

My rabbits have become house rabbits for the duration of the winter and they went outside for a play and practically scrambled over themselves to get back inside :(

LineRunner · 05/01/2012 02:48

I'm not letting my DCs walk to school in this till I'm happy that they won't get blown into traffic trying to cross the road. Fuck punctuality.

mashpot · 05/01/2012 02:48

My fence blew down last night, DH did a patch up job and I'm scared to check if it's still standing! Sure I heard it go, I'll check when I put the baby back down, fingers crossed it's still there.

Huge sympathy to those without power, damage to property etc, our fence is really not important.

LineRunner · 05/01/2012 02:51

Absolutely, mashpot. If we lose power, we also lose our gas boiler for heat and hot water so it must be really awful. And imagine no MN...

iamboredwithmylife · 05/01/2012 02:54

I hope I don't lose power here. I'm downstairs on my own with the dog and a bad toe. I'll never find my way back upstairs to the safety of bed and DH!

Has a lot of damage happened then?

somedayillbesaturdaynite · 05/01/2012 03:08

it's howling here too :(

lollystix · 05/01/2012 03:32

Are u all in the South? I'm Scotland and it's bad all day and mental about 8-9pm but all quiet now so must have left us

mashpot · 05/01/2012 04:07

I'm on my phone so assume I could keep mnetting! Fence is down, totally blocking footpath that runs alongside our house. DH is not going to be happy sorting it out again tomorrow morning.

iamboredwithmylife · 05/01/2012 04:13

It's still howling here. Coming down the chimney and the upstairs doors are rattling. I just hope it doesn't wake up the DC's. I'm still awake and I'd like a little lie down.

ChristinedePizan · 05/01/2012 04:22

I can't sleep either. It's not raining at the mo here but on Monday I had horizontal rain coming in the French windows and I keep thinking the roof is going to blow off :(

It's supposed to still be 45mph winds tomorrow morning and I am not sure I will be able to walk DS to school

iamboredwithmylife · 05/01/2012 04:34

Oh God, really? I was going to post an AIBU about not wanting to take DD1 to nursery tomorrow afternoon as it's a five minute walk next to a busy main road. AIBU?

mumblechum1 · 05/01/2012 04:47

Howling galel here (Bucks) for hours now. Don't usually hear much wind as we're fairly sheltered but it woke me up at 2am & can't get back to sleep.

iamboredwithmylife · 05/01/2012 04:51

There are roof tiles smashing here even though it seems to have calmed down a bit Hmm. Not sure if it's ours or next door.

NewGirlInTown · 05/01/2012 05:08

Kept me awake all night too, it is so unsettling. My bins have flown down the drive. Even my failsafe hot toddy hasn't worked tonight.

blackeyedsanta · 05/01/2012 07:41

top floor flat. it was noisy and I couldn't help wworrying about the roof.

ChristinedePizan · 05/01/2012 09:06

iambored - we walked out the front door fully intending to walk to school and then a roof tile came sailing off the roof and impaled itself in the flowerbed right next to me, narrowly missing me and DS and then he nearly got blown over. So we went in the car. It might be a bit PFB but I don't want to be clonked on the head by flying roof tiles if I can help it.

I suspect DS is now going to tell everyone at school that our house is falling down Hmm

MoreBeta · 05/01/2012 09:13

I do want it to stop too. Not slept for two nights. Bits of stuff keep flying off our roof, huge tree next to the house is swaying wildly, am sure one of the ancient downstairs sash windows is going to blow in at some point. Was up looking out of the bedroom window at 3 am and saw my elderly neighbours outside door on her porch had blown open. Its shut now.

Hope the DSs are OK at school and DW is not hit by something walking to work. We dont get high winds like for a few years so a lot of stuff on the roof and old trees just sit there undisturbed and then all come crashing down.

Marne · 05/01/2012 09:17

I hate it Sad, my fence is about to go and it it does its likely to hit my car which is parked next to it, the cat is looking out the window with shock and the dog is scared to go out. Managed the school run with dd1 shouting 'I'M GOING TO GET BLOWN AWAY!'.

How much longer is it going to last? i have never seen winds like this in the south.

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 05/01/2012 09:19

YADNBU WE had to duck flying milk bottles and other items that were blowing around.

I hate the wind, it makes me feel very unsettled!
