Took 12yr old dd2 for bra fitting at M&S today.

Fitter didn't quite say " but no one has boobs that size " but might as well have !!!!

She wandered in, looked at dd and said " well 12 is really very young to be in a wired style"...........ummm...... Well maybe but make a flippin bra that fits her without wires and that would help!!

In the end there 28 back range didn't fit as it stops as DD anyway.... We left empty handed. Just as well she doesn't have self esteem problems.

In the end we went back to bravissimo - and had a lovely sensitive fitter, who sorted her out with the same style as she has now in a bigger cup size. But I shall clearly have to feed her more as some of the other 28 backs were really a bit loose!

Now all I do is take out a second mortgage to get a couple more ( actually no I've grabbed last years colours from eBay which helps!).

Oh.

Well done Bravissimo.

TheSydenhamSet · 03/01/2012 20:04

YANBU i went into a branch in SE London a few years ago. I am bigger than average and the bra 'fitter' was utterly hopeless. She didn't know what she was doing and she eventually gave up as nothing she brought fitted and she did it all in a shruggy, roll eyes kind of way. A complete waste of time. I went to Bravissimo soon after and had a wonderful experience and came away with good quality bras that fit lovely.

treelightfiascoagain · 03/01/2012 20:05

M&S were rubbish with me too. In the end we drove from Derby to Manchester to a Bravissimo for some new post-feeding bras for me and nearly cried in the shop assistants arms as she made me feel like a woman for the first time in ages! (DD BF for 13 months!!!)

thepeoplesprincess · 03/01/2012 20:05

Do you really need to share the fact your pre-teen child has E cup breasts with the whole wide world?

ladymariner · 03/01/2012 20:06

Bravissimo are fantastic, wish we had a local one. The last time I got measured at M&S the fitter told me I was a 38C......hahahahahaha. The last time I was a 38C I was about 16!!!!! I'm actually a 36HH, which I really hate and cannot understand for the life of me why anyone would want big boobs, but anyway, I digress.....suffice to say, I have been a loyal Bravissimo customer for the last 6 years and they have totally transformed the way I look at my body shape :)

soandsosmummy · 03/01/2012 20:07

I too love Bravissimo (I'm a 36H so fatter than your dd I'm afraid) and find the fitters in M&S a nightmare. I don't know how the fitters at Bravissimo manage but they seem to do it all without a tape measure and practically without touching you and are nearly always bang on with their first choice of bras.

Last time I tried to get a bra fitting at M&S I was told they now only do it by appointment and I could have one in a week - I didn't bother I had put time by to get bras then not in a week

DorisIsMerryOnChristmasSprits · 03/01/2012 20:08

It's hardly a shameful secret peopleprincess

Poor girl a decent bra now might help avert years of back problems in the future!

soandsosmummy · 03/01/2012 20:11

peoplesprincess - I imagine its fairly obvious to anyone who looks at OPs dd that she has a large chest so its hardly a secret.

treelightsfiascoagain When I started breastfeeding Dd I shot up to J cup. Like you I nearly sobbed when i got to bravissimo and they actually found me bras to fit (and they doted on week old DD as well )

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 03/01/2012 20:13

I had such a chuckle when I went to M&S to buy a cheap version of the bra I had been measured for in Bravissimo (unsuccesful though) I had just given birth and my boobs were HUGE!! I said tot he lady I hadb't managed to find a 30 H and she said there was no way that was my size and kept bringing me 34 D 36D 38D
she gave up in the end and so did I, they didn't do an H cup in a 30 back apparently an impossible size. Hmmm

thepeoplesprincess · 03/01/2012 20:15

I never said tits were a shameful secret Doris

I just think it's undignified, tasteless and entirely unnecessary. Anybody in the whole wide world could read it, and for what purpose?

And what's next? A thread for people to post the length of their sons' todgers, just for the Hell of it?

LaurieFairyCake · 03/01/2012 20:19

Undignified? Get a grip, this is an anonymous website - she's not taken out an ad in the Standard Hmm

Tasteless? How can just a description of a breast size be tasteless Hmm

freak

soandsosmummy · 03/01/2012 20:20

thepeoplesprincess the op is upset by the way she and her dd was treated by M&S she has every right to come on here and talk about it. Its not as if she's saying "this is my dd's full name and address please come and gork at her between the hours of 2-4pm daily when she will be exposing her norks in the front window for your viewing pleasure".

Anyone in the world could read the OP and would form the conclusion that M&S do not treat young girls with big chests very well while Bravissimo do - this is the purpose of the post and who knows it may benefit another young girl because their mother will simply bypass M&S and they won't be upset. That is the purpose.

EcoLady · 03/01/2012 20:21

PeoplesPrincess - the OP came here to share the news that Bravissimo did a great job for her DD. That might be helpful info for someone else with a DD who has large developing boobs.

[32H and loves B'mo]

EcoLady · 03/01/2012 20:22

x-post Grin

katz · 03/01/2012 20:25

If you want large cp size small backside bras then try Brastop.com. Fab

ZillionChocolate · 03/01/2012 20:26

You may only discuss bra fitting experiences if you are a 36C and over 25. Shhh now!

rhondajean · 03/01/2012 20:28

See I had the opposite problem with m and s.

I took DD1 who was then 11 and she was about an A, needing her first bra anyway but 11 ! And they produced all these underwired padded things.

She was most peed off when I went myself and found the soft support bras for her. Bite really, if she doesn't need to, i don't want her having to deal with 12 year old boys gawping.

BlatherskitesInFairyLights · 03/01/2012 20:31

I'm a 28 G and feel your daughter's pain, it really not easy to buy larger cupped bras in a small back size.

Luckily, I also have a local Bravissimo and after being left in tears by M&S and John Lewis, it's the only place I'll go to buy bras.

WyrdMother · 03/01/2012 20:36

Applause for Bravissimo.

I was forced to wear a AA cup when at at a guess I was a C because no one believed 10 year olds needed that cup size and my mum would only buy something from the girls range because she didn't want me to be tarty.

The more places do a proper job and save girls from endless back and neck pain, stretch marks from trying to force boobs into too small cups and ishoos from feeling such a freak the better.

Mainstream lingerie has only just caught up with my boobs, hurrah for not being stuck with the "Doreen" any more.

Theas18 · 03/01/2012 20:38

Umm actually I haven't mentioned her cup size have I - just that m&s weren't big enough and beyond that made some quite belittling comments lol

Interestingly she doesn't look like a mini Jordan, just like a teenage girl. Going on that she can't, certainly by 13 or 14 be hugely unusual in dimensions so why aren't there decent teen ranges beyond the " little miss naughty" ( or similar vomit inducing cartoons) type padded and wired 34A bras that daily available?

I mean, if your teen daughter had size 7-8 feet at 12 she wouldn't now be condemned to granny lace ups or stilettos as her only shoe choice for school- clarks etc make teen girl ranges that have huge overlap with adult sizes

babyicebean · 03/01/2012 20:40

Look for a company called Curvy Kate, they start at a 28 back and do bigger sizes in the cups.

perfumedlife · 03/01/2012 20:44

YANBU M&S are awful at fittings now, especially if you are over a C cup. I left and went to House of Fraser and the woman was magnificent. I spent a lot on gorgous Freya and Rigby and Pellars that have worked their magic on my 30F cups and I don't care if I broadcast it Grin

Only problem I have with Bravissimo is lack of stock when I've been in, everything I liked was out of stock in my size.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 03/01/2012 20:46

I once had a bra fitting at M&S.

This less-than-fragrant slump-shouldered woman who was old enough to know better looked at me and said "Doncha get backache with them, eh?"

For the record, I am an E cup, and 5 ft 8, so not a freak.

Never went back. The Bravissimo women always send me out feeling BEAUTIFUL Grin

People'sPrincess what a hilariously bonkers remark Hmm

rhondajean · 03/01/2012 20:48

That's the bras they produced for my DD thea!!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/01/2012 20:49

Oh, I think M&S are useless at this, TBH! I was there the other day with my mum and the woman doing the fitting didn't seem to realize that if you're fitting a teenager, she probably does not want you to fling the door open while you call to the other fitter 'are there any smaller ones, there's nothing on this one'. Angry

I am glad Bravissimo sorted things out for your DD, though. Smile
