There's 11 months between my 2 children and I am so fucking dick of people assuming we weren't careful or she must have been unwanted because there's only a small gap.
I actually had an old lady on the bus last week say to me " oh bless you, you're just one of the unlucky ones I guess, did you consider abortion? Having 2 so close together must be a living hell "
Ummm...no.
But having to sit next to such an ignorant bitch is.

maybe it was the woman who was ranting racist abuse grandmother

Eclairwaldorf · 02/01/2012 15:24

OP didn't you just join yesterday and introduce yourself on here? That thread was a funny read too Grin

hopkin · 02/01/2012 15:30

I got the bus the other day and the person next to me was eating a Snickers. It really stank of peanuts. At first I thought someone had had peanut butter on toast for breakfast and not brushed their teeth, but then I realised what it actually was.

DressingGownQueen · 02/01/2012 15:37

I think if this happened then you need to just calm yourself a bit.

My dd was an accident, doesn't bother me one jot whether people know that or not. Doesn't really make any difference, does it?

I am of the school of thought that most people who strike up a conversation are actually just trying to be nice and friendly. Ok, maybe they sometimes say the wrong thing or misjudge the situation but really does it matter? You can go through your life with the attitude that everyone is against you and out to upset you or you can just chill a bit and try to see the best in people.

Northernlurker · 02/01/2012 15:44

Everybody tends to assume dd3 was an accident because dd2 was six when she was born. In fact she was the longest planned of any of our dds. It's bloody annoying - especially when people pair it with the 'you must have been disappointed she was a girl' thing - errrr NO, we were delighted actually. However I think it's best not to take it to heart. Tbh very few people have 11 month gaps on purpose. The misunderstanding is rude and unnecessary but also sort of understandable imo.

valiumredhead · 02/01/2012 16:13

I remember my sil being very upset when people assumed the same about the 11 month age gap between my niece and nephew. People should learn to keep their opinions to themselves.

MinnieBar · 02/01/2012 16:20

I once got on a bus in Sarf Lunnun that was stoned en route by a gang of yoofs.

No babies or old women involved (unless they were the ones doing the stoning; it was dark to be fair).

camdancer · 02/01/2012 16:21

I find that most people are just trying to start a conversation. Obviously in a completely crap and cack-handed way but even the weirdest people I've encountered just seem to want to make conversation. The guy who walked the whole way to the shops with me telling me about the racist rock-band he was in was definitely the oddest!

Neuroticnatty · 02/01/2012 16:31

Yeah well there you go, guess its not so weird after all, reading all your other stories , especially the stoning incident, although cant say I'm surprised, it is south London after all
( directed at all the people who for some reason called me a liar - thanks for that :-) )
Yep did join yesterday although am failing to see how that thread was so hilarious, unless of course it's because I'm too feminine for some people as I used the term girly ( quick shoot me...or pass the dr.martins and a pint of beer so I can fit in better. Not. )

the 'you must have been disappointed she was a girl' thing

Look at it this way, even if people don't say it they probably think it. At least if it's brought up you can make your own feelings known.

ProjectGainsborough · 02/01/2012 16:35

I remember 'chinny reckon'. Never thought I'd see the day when it was combined with 'when I was at school'.

God, I feel old now.

ProjectGainsborough · 02/01/2012 16:37

Not that I am implying you are old offdownthegarden

holyfuckerama · 02/01/2012 16:39

Neuroticnatty · 02/01/2012 16:44

Holyfuckerama :
At work once ( was in the police service ) a ma lady approached me at the front counter of the nick saying that I had stolen her husband, who was a fireman, how could I, I've broken up a home etc etc.
I tried to reason with her and told he I had no idea who her husband was but he was getting so distressed I ended up apologising for stealing him!
She was sectioned in the end though

Neuroticnatty I used to work on a reception/cash desk and one old bag lady used to come in and accuse me and the council my employer of breaking into her house when she was out and stealing frozen chips out of her freezer!! Another used to come in with toilet paper (unused) in her hair like ribbons!

Holyfuckerama - that's funny.
Reminded me I need loo roll too. Not for Robbins in my hair obviously.
Although. Might look quite cutesy. Gag.

I'm not sure if that last comment was a compliment or not but I'm taking it as one anyway so Thankyou!

what we need now is another prolific common sense derailer, but why all the references to south London? Confused is it true you are posting from the other side of the Atlantic at the moment?
