My dc only just 7 still has a cuddly toy, that is kept on their bed purely for sleep time.

Over the holidays they have been to friend's houses, and at the bottom of the bag is their cuddly toy.

Everyone of these mothers' of friends has commented that my dc is too old for a comforter. I said but it's only used at night, and they did confirm it only came out when it was bedtime, and was put away as soon as my dc got out of bed.

So I can't see the harm of my dc having it.

OMG. No not too old. It's up to the child.

My sister still sleeps with her teddy.

She is 27.

YANBU and I am surprised at the other mother's opinions. I would never take a child's special toy away from him/her. At the very most I would encourage it be left at home for sleepovers, if only so you know it won't go missing or get broken!

Also if Teddy stays at home you can give him a wash Grin

My DD is almost 7 and still has a teddy and a blanky in bed with her. They never emerge from her bed but are definitely still required for sleeping and go with her to any sleepovers. I've never given it a moment's thought..... but then I had my teddy in bed until I evicted him aged 17 to be replaced by my first boyfriend. Teddy was straight back in my bed again when we split up 9 months later! (and even now he is safely tucked away in a drawer in my bedroom, and I would happily still have him in bed - I just think DH wouldn't be very impressed!)

Not at all, YANBU.

My brother who is 14 still has his winnie the pooh blanket that he slept with as a child. He still sleeps with it in his bed, it doens't do him any harm, though I doubt he'd admit it to his mates mind you!

No way is 7 too old for a snuggly OP DS2 is 10 and an absolute tough egg in every other respect but he won't sleep without Sweep ( manky-but-much-loved-dog-thing )

I wouldn't dream of taking him away ... He's named after DP's cuddly, which was removed and burned by DP's Mum after a row ( Goes some way to explain their later difficulties ... )

It's funny but whenever my DD (nearly 6 yo) has gone for a sleepover to a friends house, it's always been the case that the other mothers are reminding me to pack a cuddly toy or whatever to help her settle (they all know I'm really disorganised, so need reminding!). Last week we all stayed over at a friends house, and of course I forgot to pack her special toy (cuddly sea horse), so friend was really helpful in offering up pretty much every one of her 3 DC's cuddly toys, one by one, until DD settled on choosing one of them.

AnonyMaw · 02/01/2012 22:44

And I should add, when DD was a baby, she wasn't interested in cuddly toys or comforters, it's only since she's been about 4 yo that she's grown attached to anything cuddly. My younger DS also doesn't have a special toy, so in my experience, it's older children who have them and need them.

Yanbu. My sister still has hers at 21. Mine is my hair and I still play with it at 29 this year, married, with a ds of my own, whom I have firmly attached to a comforter, too!
