Obviously this doesn't apply to people trying to conceive or those going through te adoption process.

Just cos my baby died doesn't mean I can't talk about things ya know? Are you the kind of person who bores your friends to death with baby pics 24/7 and won't talk about anything other than Tarquins nappy contents? If so then perhaps I understand where you are coming from.

scottishmummy · 01/01/2012 19:52

I hate the simpering that goes around the blokes- plenty of them are complete dickheads.

I find them interesting, and informative. I have learned things to help me in being more considerate of parents and tolerant of children in some circumstances which I may not have considered before, simply because I didn't have the knowledge given that I'm not a parent.

It's also useful for some parents to be given some unbiased, honest perspectives on how their decision to have children can have an effect on the lives of the child free. Hopefully they too can learn. Two way street and all that.

Hello all,
new here, sailed over from Gransnet, hope you will have me. Gransnet, grrr...
Stupid question of the original op.
At the moment, Mumsnet is the only website which seems to be a " tonic " for women of any age, with or without children. Or," with or without child....." LOL
You ladies make my day.

KoPo · 01/01/2012 20:27

but I would be a bit miffed if I posted in parenting then had a non parent giving advice. Same goes for men, actually.

I am slightly bemused about your point there? Surely if a poster has something sensible and relevant to say does it really matter if they are a parent? I have had non parents offer me some very helpful insights and advice before.

And what real issue is there if a man offers some parenting advice? there are alot of parents with penis's out there. Does the possession of said penis mean that and advice they give is somehow worthless? Cos that would infer that men are not capable of making good parents?

Getting back to the original post there a multitude of reason why someone would find there way onto mumsnet. Even hough I am a parent I found my way here through a totally unrelated websearch.

RobinSparkles · 01/01/2012 21:35

It's so easy to stumble on here by accident. I googled something the other day and MN came up. I can't remember what it was but a Good Housekeeping thread came up so nowt to do with children!

People come here because it's a laff (most of the time).

Anyway, why would you not take Parenting advice from someone who isn't one? I knew much more about being a parent before I became one! Grin

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 01/01/2012 21:37

it's the maryz we should be most vigilant about...

spoiling for a fight eh ?

I reckon there are a few fights to be had this evening, on MN Xmas Grin

I have made a couple of enemies already today Xmas Hmm

aquashiv · 01/01/2012 21:42

I have wondered the same. In my ignorance although it doesnt make a rats arse as I rarely ever talk about children. Perhaps it should be renamed PeopleNet.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 01/01/2012 21:43

mary..studying will be resumed tomorrow

NY Eve teenage party was negotiated successfully, it has to be said

until teenage dd informed me today she will be joining the gym at 25 quid a month, minimum term 12 months

erm, nope, you won't since you don't stick at anything for more than 2 minutes !

cue : stop controlling my life rantage

< sigh >

but thanks for asking Xmas Grin

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 01/01/2012 21:44

I rename MN rantyfuckersnet

RobinSparkles · 01/01/2012 21:45

Yes PeopleNet - advice for people by people!

Maybe we should go and start our own Wink

giraffesCanGoFirstFootingOnNYE · 01/01/2012 21:47

Op I have just seen your thread about your dcs mould/asthma etc - I was going to post advice as I have brittle asthma myself and spent time in hospital with children I have looked after with asthma. However not sure you would want advice from a not parent second class poster like myself so I shall keep my mouth shut.

RobinSparkles · 01/01/2012 21:57

Also, just wanted to add to the reasons why people who aren't parents can still give advice - well we were all children once!

Often when I'm giving parenting advice I talk about what worked on me when I was a child and not my own parenting experiences because frankly I'm crap at it. Thank god for DH.

KoPo · 01/01/2012 22:04

Ah but Robin apparently our DH's are not suitable to give advice due to the fact that they are men.

Do you hear that DH .... Time to get thyself off of mumsnet instantly! Grin

ReindeerBollocks · 01/01/2012 22:09

I think MN that was just for women with children would be mightily boring, I prefer MN because it's not child orientated (although it is also acceptable to ask for child related help).

I'm a fan of my children, but even I don't want to bang on about them 24/7 I'd much rather post about bum sex, drinking and Benedict Cumberbatch.
