Get0rf - pickig up on your mysogynistic point (and I realise I'm sticking my head in the lion's mouth here a bit) and as a response to combatting things like the ph thread.. A laudable and indeed vital goal for society to move to the next level of 'civilised', but in itself can be divisive because it perpetuates the 'them and us' as I alluded to earlier and actually highlights the distinction. Case in point: I believe wholeheartedly that the colour of someone's skin, their sex, gender, sexual preferences, age, height, accent, offending background etc should have no bearing on the way in which I evaluate them (or they evaluate me). However to achieve that, I feel I need to transcend the current thinking of 'equally capable irrespective of a person's sex' and get to 'equally capable' (with no consideration of any of those factors). The response on here from those who disliked the ph thread seemed to be attributed to the posters attribute of 'male' (I'm assuming an affinity with cars wasn't the automatic conclusion). Therefore, you (collectively not just get0rf) seemed to categorise the posters as male and then attribute the negative label. You were probably right, but that doesn't take us as far as I would like to go, which is 'they are annoying and I won't be upset if they get run over by a truck' (note lack of attribution of maleness or otherwise). Would you be offended if they (as a predominantly male population) categorised a thread on here (as predominantly female) that they were discussing by referring to female stereotypes? Would that be any different to the way in which many on here have been categorising them?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 22:21

well

they started it

< sticks tongue out >

I just can't take you seriously wound I am sure you mean well (waves at wound's DW, whoever you are) but you just sound so pompous

like my old geography teacher...and we are talking old

SuePurblybilt · 02/01/2012 22:21

And verily, let us embrace the paragraph. For lo, it is late and the eyes of the users are sore and much vexed.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 22:22

Angelica is a lovely name

is she named after anyone ?

Gertrude is a nod to her German ancestors, very fitting

Get0rf · 02/01/2012 22:23

No - we are not categorising PH as male, we are just categorising PH as a collective of prejudiced, thick twats. There are sometimes links here to a site which is predominantly female. We argue with their beliefs as well, not because they are women, but because they too are prejudiced, thick twats as well.

If you want to argue the sexism point, why not go back to PH and point out their blatant and unhidden women hating behaviour to them, rather than claiming that MNers are inherently sexist.

Get0rf · 02/01/2012 22:23

I must admit I got to 'case in point:' and then skimmed.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 22:25

I used to like geography < wistful >

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 02/01/2012 22:26

Sue - one of my cars once had a leak in the fuel pipe - it was tiny, we only spotted it when some engine-tuner was shining his torch into the running engine and it was spitting drops of fuel out, not even a stream. Might be that.

AF - could be your window seals, could be any of the other things that people have mentioned but if you have had a prang, it could be coming in from the wheel arch or pretty much anywhere in that area. The condensation won't stop until you find the hole and get the whole thing dried out.

Welsh - did you not smell it before the condensation problem?? Shock

SuePurblybilt · 02/01/2012 22:26

My geography teacher was bonkers. Whenever he mentioned the island of Sumatra, he made us all sing 'doo be doo be do' like Ol' Blue Eyes Grin.
I think he mentioned it more than was strictly necessary.

SuePurblybilt · 02/01/2012 22:27
WoundUpLeaf · 02/01/2012 22:29

AF: applying the leather patches as we speak.
Get0rf: certainly not implying sexist. Think I was actually implying 'ist'.

Anyway, it is relatively late, I have a full day of childcare tomorrow and I know when to STFU (about four posts ago I think).

WelshMoth · 02/01/2012 22:29

Flippin' eck Wound
I gave up after your 3rd sentence.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 02/01/2012 22:30

Oi - I gave good car advice too!

Why was I not impressive?

NormaStanleyFletcher · 02/01/2012 22:33

There were sentences in there?

I personally make no judgements about people being male because they like cars and are petrol heads.

I do make judgements about people being twats though, and the person who was doing those pictures seemed like a twat to me.
