To be wetting myself laughing at Kim Jong Il's funeral coverage?

It's hilarious.

That massive framed picture on top of the funeral car. The OTT speeches. Kim-Jong Un's hairdo.

It's like something off Monty Python.

Defensive sarcasm a plenty on this thread [Hmm]

KittyFane · 29/12/2011 08:46

Hmm even

SuePurblybilt · 29/12/2011 08:53

I'm not even going to express an opinion, lest I am called a cliquey bastard.
So I shall just larf at everything.

BaublesandCuntingCarolSingers · 29/12/2011 09:20

I wouldn't call Brooker fourth-rate. Shock I don't need him to formulate my opinions for me either (which I would have thought is obvious, since I have managed to express my opinions all by myself already) I just look forward to hearing his thoughts on stuff. Is there something wrong with that now? That I enjoy reading a fucking column in a newspaper?

Some people really do trundle through life doing pursed lips/arms crossed huffily at everything.

KittyFane · 29/12/2011 09:20

coldweb - For fucks sake! the op has explained herself about a billionth time, stop fucking riding her. Instead of educating people (like myself) on NK, the thread is about the op.
In response to the OP - YABU

Lay off the op.
Can't see any goading. Posts just say YABU and here are the reasons why. Should people not say YABU?

CalatalieSisters · 29/12/2011 10:09

Really open-mouthed at the people on this thread who think that there is no scope for laughter at this funeral, or at the theatrical display of grief. Sympathy, shock, understanding can exist alongside black amusement. It is a really odd and pious twisting of compassion to claim otherwise.

In fact, the little parade of posters managing to work up a show of anger at a non-existent wrong is a leeetle bit like those mourners' displays: a one-upmanship in the display of a strange distorted model of proper feeling.

I think the display of grief was tragic and I don't know if the greater tragedy would lie in the mourners' sincerity or in their faking their grief. But I also find it very funny, surreal, absurd. All of those reactions have been grist for oppositional satire in former European and Russian totalitarian regimes, and it is natural to view NK totalitarianism with the same bleak humour.

GothAnneGeddes · 29/12/2011 10:12

Kitty - apparently we should all be grateful for the OP's dazzling wit.

BaublesandCuntingCarolSingers · 29/12/2011 10:14

Yes, please be a bit more grateful. I have expressly requested that you be a bit more grateful.

OP posts:
GothAnneGeddes · 29/12/2011 10:20

Calatallie - I find the insistence that we must see the humour in this really patronising. And you can take your claim of "one upmanship" and stick it. For some of us, countries like this are more then a target for satire.

ViviPrudolf · 29/12/2011 10:26

That is correct, I cannot make an opinion without the guidance of Brooker. Funny, just minutes ago, DP and I were weighing up the relative merits of Lavazza Vs. Illy, and I pondered to myself "what would Brooker do". I even googled it.

And what do you know - he's .... a nespresso man! Shock The EVIL SATANIST! He also kills babies with his 4th rate trivia. I read it in The DM.

LadyBeagleEyes · 29/12/2011 10:28

What paper does Brooker write in?
I've only seen him on the telly.

KittyFane · 29/12/2011 10:28

OP, you asked a question, some said YABU & here are the reasons, you became sarcastic and defensive, people said YABU again whilst others said lay off the OP, some said still not funny.
????

CalatalieSisters · 29/12/2011 10:29

Goth, do you truly think that laughter here means that we don't see NK as "more than just a target for satire"? Or do you just pretend you think that for the sake of maintaining a self-righteous anger?

BaublesandCuntingCarolSingers · 29/12/2011 10:30

In The Guardian, LadyBeagle. He is fourth-rate, though. Wouldn't bother with him if I were you.

OP posts:
KittyFane · 29/12/2011 10:30

You obviously think YANBU, you seem offended that people disagree.
So why ask?

crumpet · 29/12/2011 10:32

The op will be able to answer for herself if she wishes to, but I was surprised at the number of people who seemed unable to grasp that her post had nothing to do with amusement at the sufferings of the North Koreans.

KittyFane · 29/12/2011 10:35

Not sure that the OP linked the OTT funeral with politics at all to start with. Which is a bit short sighted.

PealThemWithTheirMetalKnives · 29/12/2011 10:35

Calatalie your post at 10:09 was measured, thoughtful and intelligent.

GothAnneGeddes · 29/12/2011 10:36

Calatallie - I think the laughter here is that tediously self congratulatory sort, so beloved of certain people and their arselickers on MN.

BaublesandCuntingCarolSingers · 29/12/2011 10:38

"You obviously think YANBU, you seem offended that people disagree.
So why ask?"

Because people disagree with a querstion I never asked. People have answered that AIBU to find the suffering of a nation funny. I was laughing at an oversized picture and a haircut. If you can't divorce the two things, then that's fine. But don't piss your knickers saying that I am laughing about something that I wasn't.

OP posts:
BaublesandCuntingCarolSingers · 29/12/2011 10:39

Ooh, tedious and self-congratulatory...

OP posts:
tethersend · 29/12/2011 10:40

There is of course scope for humour in the proceedings- it's just that nobody's made any jokes yet, so I haven't laughed.

GothAnneGeddes · 29/12/2011 10:42

Op - The only person pissing their knickers here is you, look at your AIBU question.

EnjoyResponsiblyIfSleighFlying · 29/12/2011 10:42

No Goth you are wrong in my case. I'm not kissing up to anyone.

I am appalled for the North Koreans and thankful I do not live there.

But I giggled, a lot, at the colossal picture on top of the car. Imagine if the wind picked up.

And the new dudes barnet is breath taking.

LadyBeagleEyes · 29/12/2011 10:42

FFS Goth, just because the OP has people that agree with her we're tediously self congratulatory and arselickers?
I like to think that my opinions derive from me and nobody else.
In this instance I agree with her not you.
Sorry about that Confused
