To give a Jo Malone candle

to my SIL for christmas. We are visiting on Tuesday and now am worrying it won't seem enough to her. I would love one myself but they are not cheap!

It isn't always trend following.

Some people love certain sensations for the five senses. Smell-fragrances, touch-luxurious fabrics, hearing-audiophiles-top stereo equipment, sight-colour, art etc., taste-foodies/food, wine or coffee connoisseurs.
To them it is worth the money.

Not just anyone can produce a decent scent, you get what you pay for.
We have a fragrance free home ourselves as I developed allergies and asthma, but I used to enjoy some of the Yankee candles like Pumpkin Spice, and the ones that smelled like cookies and pies, cinnamon. I miss that.

The thing about JM candle its you only need to burn them for an hour or so to get the benefits of the scent -which will linger for hours. And they burn completely evenly, leaving no wax left in the jar. I had a £7 candle from M & S that no longer burns because the centre has melted quicker than the exterior, meaning the wick has disappeared. So a few of those soon comes up to the cost of one JM!

Plus the scents and the packaging are sooo pretty! And before all you naysayers yell 'Sucker!', I like being able to spend my money on such fripperies Xmas Grin!

Update. SIL was very pleased indeed. She had apparently been into the JM shop that very week and had been feeling sorry that she couldn't afford anything for herself Xmas Grin

Hurrah! Good news. Now I think you should get one for everyone on this thread that supported you Wink

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 28/12/2011 12:13

No need for that, OP, I've just bought a gropefruit one... can't wait for it to arrive. Xmas Grin

Well done on fab shopping choices... you can't go wrong with JM. Xmas Wink

StealthPolarBear · 28/12/2011 12:15

PMSL at gropefruit

Those kinds of present sare difficult aren't they - really pleased your SIL liked it. I would love one! But some wouldn't appreicat eit. I bought my mum a designer handbag recently and it was a lot of money. On the day she liked it but wasn't really that overwhelmed. About 6 months later she called me all apologetic because a frined had pointed out to her how much it would have cost - she had no idea!

My mum wouldn't know a Jo malone candle from a Primark one Xmas Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 28/12/2011 12:21

GRAPEFUIT!!! Xmas Blush

Santageekmum · 28/12/2011 12:36

Still laughing at grope fruit!

Sebsosmummy · 28/12/2011 15:29

So pleased she loved it, I would have joined the queue to buy it if she hadn't x

CheerfulYank · 28/12/2011 15:35

Oh, that's great! I'm happy she liked it.

I make do with Yankee myself (I only like the ones that smell like baking) but would love a Jo Malone.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/12/2011 15:41

try the wax studio for really interesting candles, can be made to order for special occaisions too.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 28/12/2011 15:43

CheerfulYank... Have you tried 'Warm Spices' yet? That and 'Shortbread Cookie' are my favourites from the 'baking' scents. :)

Bunbaker · 28/12/2011 15:45

"My mum wouldn't know a Jo malone candle from a Primark one"

I don't think I would either. I'm not a candle person and any candles I have ever been given as presents have always ended up as tombola prizes at local fundraising events. But if your SIL loved her present then I'm really pleased.

CheerfulYank · 28/12/2011 15:51

I have LyingWitch ! Love both of those. The ones I have right now are pine scented for Christmas. :)

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 28/12/2011 15:53

Oh yes, CheerfulYank, I have 'Christmas Tree' and 'White Christmas' burning at the moment. I have a jar of 'Silver Bells' that I won't light but leave the top off... it's rare now and I can't bear to burn it.

butterfliesandladybirds · 28/12/2011 18:42

Have ordered a whole box of gropefruit candles for all you lovely people. I imagine they have an aphrodisiac effect lyingwitch? Wink

Oh thank you butterflies... Grin... I'm not going to live that down anytime soon, am I? Blush

mrsmaltesers · 28/12/2011 19:05

I would love one.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 28/12/2011 19:06

Not that I've seen, mrsmaltesers, not a sale either. It must be great to have such a niche product that you never have to entice people to buy.
