to my SIL for christmas. We are visiting on Tuesday and now am worrying it won't seem enough to her. I would love one myself but they are not cheap!

To all who said send it to me, sorry if she doesn't like it I'll be stuffing into my own bag. (Now not sure if I want her to like it!) It's lime basil and mandarin.

It's lovely and if she doesn't appreciate she's no taste. And also that scent is fab, my friend got me that bath oil a few years ago. It smelled lovely but did bugger up the bath - you are way safer with candles.

sailorsgal · 26/12/2011 17:01

Gorgeous present, wish you were my SIL. I bought myself some Jo Malone perfume last week as knew I wouldn't get it as a present.

tigerdriverII · 26/12/2011 17:07

YY sailorsgal, I bought myself some really nice perfume and body lotion from me, so I had it and didn't have to put it on a strategically placed post it and hope that someone could read my writing.

I hope you really spoilt her with the luxury candle-2.5 kg candle! Seriously, a lovely gift.

toutlemonde · 26/12/2011 19:27

Someone please explain why they are so special?

I got a candle as a gift yesterday and felt really disappointed at the thoughtlessness of it. A message as Santageekmum suggested would have helped.

Mine is not Jo Malone btw - had never heard of it before this thread - but I've just gone and checked.

nkf · 26/12/2011 19:31

Well, to be honest, most candles are a bit of a so so present. An easy gift for a woman. But Jo Malone candles are beautifully scented. If you like scented candles as a way of scenting your home, they are the top of the range products. Apparently, Muji sell reasonable alternatives though.

I would struggle to cover my disappointment at unwrapping a candle.

dementedma · 26/12/2011 21:32

I've never tried a Jo Malone one shineon so can't compare, but they smell beautiful. My very fussy 21year old DD loves them. Buy one and give it a go.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 26/12/2011 21:33

I would wet myself if someone gave me one. Love candles (apart from Yankee ones)

snowmaiden · 26/12/2011 21:44

I hate being given candles as a gift! I have a drawer full of Jo Malone candles as DH worked at Estee lauder for a bit and they gave them to him as a gift. Yes, they are nicer than the average candle, and I know how much they cost, but they are a useless item and NO candle is worth £38!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 26/12/2011 21:47

EBay them! I like Diptyque ones but ask for them for presents.
