To tell you all about my Christmas eve miracle?

My year has been totally shit, topped off by my DP cheating and being kicked out 6 months ago, my son had to go to special school, couldn't find him childcare so list my job (should be able to find one in new year that matches transport pick up/ drop off) so I'm totally alone this Christmas with DS (5) who has ASD and has never shown any understanding of Christmas. I was feeling so down I thought I'd give DS his presents in the morning, he'd open them and that would be it.

BUT

This morning I mumbled something to DS about someone coming tonight and he looked at me, eyes all lit up and said 'Father Christmas! Down the chimney!'
I have never been so happy in all my life. I bundled DS in the car to buy lots of Christmas booze, nibbles and chocolate last minute and he told everyone he passed in tesco 'father Christmas down the chimney, present!'

Now I am engaging in the big pre-Christmas day clean and am so looking forward to DS's first proper Christmas (that he understands)

I know I'm being totally unreasonable writing a post like this here but I'm so chuffed I couldn't care less!

What a lovely miracle, and youz've made me a little tearful.

Ineedacleaneriamalazyslattern · 24/12/2011 11:31

GrinGrinGrinGrin Your post made me cry too. I am so happy for you. I totally get your feelings of it being a miracle. My ds1 is 5 and has had speech and language problems and hearing problems and sensory problems and he started school this year and has soared in confidence and ability. This is the first year he has gone to and stayed at a Christmas party without totally freaking out and breaking down and is actually excited and looking forward to Christmas. Small things to other people but a huge thing for our little boy.
Have a lovely lovely Christmas together and lots of love for a happier new year. And go on then a huge unmumsnety hug.

molepomandmistletoe · 24/12/2011 11:38

Awww, I'm chuffed to bits for you!

I'll let you into something else too that I have noticed, kids with SN tend to be kids for longer, so the magic of Christmas lasts longer too! My 8 YO still believes as does a mates 10yo, both SN.

Long may it last OP. It's great.

That is lovely. My 27 year old has ASD so I know what you mean. This year, no interest as usual - until a couple of days ago. He actually put up decorations (I had already put up the tree). He went into the loft at 6.30 am and got out the box of decs and did the lounge before he went to work.. I was flabbergasted.

Apart from him having Cheese on Toast for Christmas Lunch (he hates roast) it looks as though it will not be doom and gloom for us either!

I really hope you enjoy your day!

FetchezLaVache · 24/12/2011 11:47

I just want to tell you that you may have many years of Santa ahead of you! DS is 11 and has ASD and still truly believes in Santa! DSD is 10 and stopped believing last year and DD is 6 and already questioning! So whilst it's taken a while to get there take note it may last longer than normal!

You've made me well up as well OP.

DD is 2 & has autism, she has no understanding at all of Christmas. This gives me hope that one day she might.
A Christmas miracle, because I was feeling pretty down about it. Thankyou very much. Thanks

I hope you both have a wonderful time Xmas Smile
