Letter writing 101 - you put the card into the envelope with the picture peeping through the V iyswim and anything else is actually rude to the reciever. I have sat on this for years, but now I just feel that it's a barbed dig against me. She doesn't like me - I have a good life and I thinks she's a bit jealous of my house and car. Xmas Angry AIBU to have a word with her about the slight I have already ripped up the card in temper.

Seriously, you need to find a hobby.

WTAF?

WorraLiberty · 22/12/2011 22:59

To be fair, if you were sitting on it...she probably did the best she could under the circumstance.

Good stuff that mulled wine!

MrsOzz · 22/12/2011 23:00

I think she means when you open the envelope and pull the card out, you should pull the card out with the picture/front facing you?

But just be grateful to get cards! If you're this picky about everything, I'm sure you won't receive many cards in the future!!

Sparklingbaubles · 22/12/2011 23:00

'Peeping through the V'. Confused

fridakahlo · 22/12/2011 23:01

There's an etiquette as to how you put cards in envelopes? No-one told me.

GruffalowsMammy · 22/12/2011 23:01

That is a terrible way to carry on. OP I think she is very jealous of you and your wonderful shiny car.

If I were you I'd drive to their house and set fire to the card in front of her face Xmas Grin

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 22/12/2011 23:02

Good lord, I have been offending people for years then.
Or I don't tend to send cards to the batshit crazy people who care about this stuff.

Cherriesarelovely · 22/12/2011 23:03

No! This cannot be real, surely?

I got taught the opposite. From my very-correct granny (in snooty voice with much tutting) "For heaven's sake, gel, put it in with the picture away from the envelope flap, do you really want to get envelope paste all over the picture?"

Backtofrontsaddened · 22/12/2011 23:05

That's right MrsOzz - it was taught at school. It's like a silent bird to the receiver to do it otherwise. And I know it's deliberate. Xmas Angry

That is just shocking! Never have anything to do with her again. Or your brother for marrying her. Or your parents for letting your brother marry her. Or anyone who went to their wedding. Blah, blah.....

Backtofrontsaddened · 22/12/2011 23:06

LondonMumsie - your very proper granny had it wrong, all wrong.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 22/12/2011 23:06

I don't really care what way round it goes as long as there's money in it.

I hate trying to fake a smile when the bastard thing's cashless.

Backtofrontsaddened · 22/12/2011 23:07

It's not my DB's wife, godlord, no. My DH's DB's wife. Hmm

OP posts:
LondonMumsie · 22/12/2011 23:08

It would be quite satisfying if she had it all wrong - she could be very annoying! It would mean re-training myself after all this years though... and isn't there some logic in the notion that the envelope is best off sticking to the back of the card not the front.

Ah, maybe we've always had inferior envelopes??

Backtofrontsaddened · 22/12/2011 23:08

I should coco.

Is this a thread about a thread? Surely it must be as it seems every other thread is!
