AIBU to hate wrapping presents?

I lose the sellotape, the paper tears, the scissors are crap, my back ends up aching with perching on the edge of the settee, the dogs just plays with the paper and I end up chasing him, and I hate, hate, wrapping presents!!

YABU. I love wrapping presents. Glass of wine, kids (and dog!) in bed.
Wrap each completely differently to the last, festooned with hand painted (by self) paper, ribbons, glitter cut-out initials of the recipient, baubles, silk flowers or anything pretty. What's not to love?

ViviPrudolf · 21/12/2011 11:44

'Pruhound likes to sit right in the middle of the piece of paper you've just cut to use. She thinks she is being helpful Xmas Hmm

mummakaz · 21/12/2011 11:45

YANBU I absolutely HATE wrapping but a lot of people on MN seem to love itXmas Smile

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 21/12/2011 11:46

Yanbu. Love Christmas hate wrapping. All done though, fills me with dread at the thought of all I've done already having to do in one hit. Bloody mince pie and mulled wine at my side or not. Grin

Yulewithadragontattoo · 21/12/2011 11:47

Get good scissors and a sellotape dispenser (this revolutionised wrapping gifts for me). Do it in the evening when kid are in bed and TV / music is on. Do it with DH and it'll be more fun. A second pair of hands is useful for big / awkward shaped gifts or to write the labels.

I suspect HotBurrito is fibbing exaggerating for comic effect.

usualsuspect · 21/12/2011 11:49

I hate it, I lose the scissors ,then the sellotape ,then the pen

Pay me in Twinings English breakfast tea and a tin of Roses and I'll do the wrapping for you! Xmas Grin

FaverollesWithBoughsOfHolly · 21/12/2011 11:52

DH "helps" by sitting watching whatever film is on, handing me bits of Sellotape Xmas Hmm
This year he's offered to take the dc out to give me a chance to wrap everything. Not sure whether to be grateful or in awe at the fact that he'll get out of wrapping yet again!

HotBurrito1 · 21/12/2011 11:52

Well Holly I always start out feeling like that, by the end I am usually a little sozzled fed up of it. Disclaimer : I haven't started yet.

mummynoseynora · 21/12/2011 11:53

I hate it beyond belief.... in our house we have a new arrangement, I organise lists, budgets , planning and shopping - DH does most if not all of the wrapping - problem solved Xmas Grin

MrsLevinson · 21/12/2011 11:59

I second the Sellotape dispenser, it makes a world of difference. I get DH to write the gift tags while I wrap, with a glass of wine and some crap on the tv I actually quite enjoy it.

fuzzypeach1750 · 21/12/2011 12:07

ohhh I love wrapping! I'm crap at it mind but I still love it.

Santageekmum · 21/12/2011 12:10

I love it! To the extent that I have even wrapped a gift from my DH to myself...

LoveInASnowyClimate · 21/12/2011 12:13

I love it! You need to get some sharp scissor, tape on a dispenser, and some tougher paper! I do everything in brown paper with ribbons - looks fab and doesn't tear.

sweetiesue · 21/12/2011 12:17

I've decided to wrap the kids instead of the presents. If I do it after school today I can tidy house (won't be messed up again before visitors arrive), pre cook all bits for Christmas dinner in peace and enjoy a glass of something fizzy. Just need to decide where to store them until Christmas morning.

wineandcheese · 21/12/2011 12:17

YABU
If you're wrapping, it means the presents are bought!

lottielou39 · 21/12/2011 12:18

I loathe it with a passion. YANBU.

quirrelquarrel · 21/12/2011 12:26

Oh I like it. Except I do it on my floor and have to keep picking bits of fluff and hair from the tape.
I don't like the Christmas wrapping papers and am too cheap to buy expensive sheets of pretty paper, so I get a pad of colour glitter paper and do it with that. Also have found a poster of a stained glass window for 50p and used that.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 21/12/2011 12:26

I neither love it nor hate it - start off quite liking it as I am anticipating the excitement of it being opened, but the novelty does wear off! I too spent many years being resentful that i was expected to do it all...now separated and dh has dropped off his contributions to the stocking-fillers UNWRAPPED of course!
It must get tedious if you have tonnes to wrap for a large extended family, but as I don't it's not too bad really.

TwelveGaysOfChristmas · 21/12/2011 12:29

I flippin' love it. Xmas Grin

ByTheWay1 · 21/12/2011 12:34

I hate wrapping - so I buy the packs of 6 shiny bags with string handles for £1 from Poundland/Poundshop/Crazy Prices/wherever - pop in pressie, piece of tape to hold it shut - DONE!!

For in-laws I even tie a bit of glittery string round a couple of pine cones or mini baubles, attach to handle and it almost looks stylish :o

SantasENormaSnob · 21/12/2011 12:40

I love it Xmas Blush

MummyAbroad · 21/12/2011 12:45

I love it, but its been a lot harder this year with a six week old deciding he is hungry every time I settle down to do it.Hmm

Even better than a tape dispenser is the fancy "no cut" tape that you can just tear off without needing scissors. Worth the extra pennies.
