To be scathing about the woman who spent 3months upside down

lildeg · 21/12/2011 11:32

she stayed in a hospital bed with her legs in the air for 3 months so she didn't miscarry.
Is it just me who thinks the NHS have mugged her off with an old wives tale and there's not really anything you can do to prevent it if it's going to happen?
Xmas Hmm I dunno, but it just seems a mahoosive drain on resources.

oh that story made me weepy
it sounds somewhat ground breaking treatment, i think its fantastic for the NHS to be at the forefront of technological advance.

elesbells · 21/12/2011 13:12

people never cease to amaze me...

This could - and should have been a lovely Christmas story of a poor woman who has finally had a healthy baby thanks to our NHS..

But no, you want to 'be scathing'

Horrible thread

Merry Christmas op...Hmm

Kayano · 21/12/2011 13:14

I can't see op coming back Hmm shame on her.

edam · 21/12/2011 13:20

Even if you only look at this in terms of money, £300 a day cost of housing an inpatient v. far more for neonatal intensive care = a cost saving for the NHS. I suppose it would have been cheaper to let her miscarry but then you have to include the likely costs of depression, with ongoing medication, possibly talking therapies, maybe affecting her ability to care for her son (and the emotional drain on the rest of the family).

Personally I'd trust Professor Siobhan Quenby, one of the world's leading experts in recurrent miscarriages, over an unqualified Sun reader.

Absolutely, Professor Quenby is a recognised expert in her field and is pioneering treatments. We should be applauding her not being scathing.

It's a lovely story. Made me very tearyBlush

The poor woman lost 2 babies. It's a lovely story and a wonderful outcome. It couldn't have been easy or comfortable for her but she got through it and her and her family have a wonderful early Christmas present.

edam · 21/12/2011 13:28

I guess it's not high-tech enough for the OP. Who seems to think doctors should ignore stuff that actually works if it's not exciting enough.

goingtoofast · 21/12/2011 13:30

One of my friends had to have 4 months bed rest as she was likely. She was only allowed to get up to have a v quick shower once a day and to go to the toilet. She was able to do thia at home as she had no other children and her husband worked very close by so was able to give her her lunch everyday. This was in another country and she had a healthy baby.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/12/2011 13:34

Good Lord.
What a weird thing to be scathing about.

Woman has threatened (very) late miscarraige
Medics do all they can to prevent it
Baby born
Happy family.

Yeah what a load of rubbish Hmm

Happy Christmas btw.

AmandinePoulain · 21/12/2011 13:37

Are you saying OP, that if you found yourself in this position, you would honestly say to the obstetrician "No, I'm not doing that, what tosh, that'll never work and I couldn't possibly waste NHS resources on my unborn child"? Because in her position I would have tried anything.

I hope they have a lovely Christmas with their little ones and she should be so so proud of what she's achieved.

Scathing? Really?

You think the doctors were just having her on do you?

I had very preterm twins (23 weeks), one of my babies sadly died at three days old, my surviving little girl went through three months of treatment in ICU, stuck full of needles and tubes. Oh and another month of SCBU. Oh and home oxygen for a further six months.

Let me tell you OP, if I could have avoided ANY of that by staying in a hospital bed with my legs in the air, I would have done so. It would have been a pleasure. I would rather do that for THREE YEARS than see another child of mine go through what I saw my daughters go through. Let alone the cost to the NHS of caring for very early babies as had already been pointed out.

But then I suppose you'd consider my surviving daughter a mahoosive drain on resources wouldn't you? I'm guessing you would, given that you want to be scathing about a woman who has lost two babies and gone through a treatment that must have been uncomfortable and anxiety inducing in order to give her baby the best chance of surviving?

And a Happy Christmas to you . . . .

zookeeper · 21/12/2011 13:42

never mind three months upside down; I've spent the last ten years going around in circles...grin]

zookeeper · 21/12/2011 13:43

sigh. Grin

bemybebe · 21/12/2011 13:50

why?

lildeg · 21/12/2011 13:54

I'd crossed posted my second reply then read the link put up, I have also seen the full segment on the news.
I'm appalled with myself, I got half a story as the bulletin had not said about the woman's previous losses or condition just the treatment given.

OP posts:
AwayinaKayzr · 21/12/2011 13:56
