I totally understand if people can't afford /can't be arsed to send Christmas cards. But - if you are going to send them - why in the world would you enrich WH Smith or Paperchase when you could support a charity?

What, with 4p for every 30 cards sold? Better ways to give to charity IMO.

I don't buy charity cards, most are an insult to giving.

I give actual money instead.

Because how I distribut my money to charity, be it through Christmas Cards or other means, is my business

FWIW there's not many designs I like in the charity sector. Also, I've cut down on sending cards anyway and like to send more personal ones to the people I DO send to.

I actually do buy my cards through a charity, but I certainly wouldn't judge people who didn't.

YABU- Everyone's skint. When I had more money I always sent charity cards but now we are skint I'm afraid it's not the same. Now I'm married, I have 85 cards to send every year. Pack of charity cards: 10 for £3.75
Pack of 20 nice cards from Wilkinsons £2 for 30. However, I am donating a massive bag of baby clothes to Women's Aid as this is charity that doesn't leave me more skint than before.

Give to charity in other ways.

It is not your business how other people spend their money. I would rather enrich Smith's than Tesco.

I bought Cat's Protection ones because I have an interest, but I bet there were a few tuts from the rellies thinking I should be giving to a 'human' charity.

Because WHS or whoever still benefit from the charity cards, while the charity gets pennies? If i bought a pack of whatever cards i liked and stuck a measly 50p in a collection box, the chances are I would have made a bigger donation.

ouryve- I agree. Works out better to buy cheaper cards and put a couple of quid in a collection box.

I don't send charity christmas cards, I get cheap ones out of the pound shop. I'm on a budget and have one charity which I choose to regularly support and draw the line there, although I might put change in collection tins for comic relief etc if I have it spare. I can't afford to give to every charity that asks me to whether that is through expensive cards, chuggers or emotional blackmail TV ads.

It's not true that the charities don't get much money. If you buy directly from charity shops, not the "Charity" packs sold in WH Smiths etc, they get all the profits. They are a very important source of charity income.

And however much you give to charity through other means, surely it's good to give more by buying cards too?

I send the free ones that come through my door no way am I buying them, if they want them back they can come and retrieve them.

But I dont do cards - if I cant say happy birthday byt phone or face to face then I assumethat person isnt close enough to me to warrant me bothering. Ditto, Easter and xmas cards. And I've never sent a condolence card in my life - if I cant visit or write a meaningful letter, then shoot me. I just don't buy into this whole card crap thing. Exactly why would anyone send their Dw/Dh/DP a card - you wake up in the morning and say 'Merry Christmas/happy birthday/happy anniversary' ..... total marketting gimmick people fell for hook line and sinker

I donate through payroll and we sponoer a local charity each year at work. We have raised over £1000 this year, not bad for a small office.
However, I will never hug a chugger or write another christmas card, ever.

OP- YABU- the price of them in charity shops is very dear and many people are skint. If they did value packs or something I might do it. It's all every well judging people on how little or much they give to charity but some people HAVE NO SPARE CASH.

Charity cards are so 90s.
