Property developer/ interior design. Want to write really and have had a few bits published years ago and am hoping to go back to that next year in a small way!

I sell chocolate seasonally and have been an Avon lady for half my life [shocked] I enjoy doing both and wouldn't want to go back to working for anyone else although I did enjoy my job as a benefits assessor before I had my children.

BlueCat2010 - oh i see!

Well, different strokes for different folks - it's a good job we don't all like the same things in life otherwise some jobs would take a lot of paying to get people to do them (more so than at present).

Notabanker cheers Xmas Smile

dreamingbohemian Foster carers in this area get paid a lot more than Kinship carers...bone of contention at the moment as L.A are cutting rates for relatives that look after children, and I'm the one who has to break the news.

yellowraincoat It's relatively well paid but very stressful...says the muppet who's on annual leave tomorrow and is still going in to work to make sure that people have money/care plans set in stone/presents to give their children next week. LOVE my (usual) job, currently seconded to a specialist team...desperate to get back to C.P and Children and families for a break )

There are also 'Landlady' schemes for older (late teen) care leavers if you have a spare room and a patient disposition OP.

Well I started as a PA in the City in 1980, by 1984 I was a Eurobond Salesman and did that until 1995 when DS was born. After that I had 8 glorious years as a SAHM but I got bored when dd started school. Started at the bottom at a local uni, part-time in the HR department. Now fully qualified and the uni funded an mba after that - Deputy Head of HR in a department of 35. Even though I work just as hard and the job can be more stressful, I still earn less than half of what I was on between 1987 and 1995 though Hmm.

Alouisee · 18/12/2011 22:17

Sahm - the hours are shocking and the work can be very menial.

If you do think of anything please let me know, I'd like to dust off my brain a bit.

catinboots · 18/12/2011 22:18

Lecturer in animal management, specialising in equine exercise physiology

ReindeerBollocks · 18/12/2011 22:18

I am a full time benefits scrounger and part time knitter.

scarlettsmummy2 · 18/12/2011 22:19

I run an employability programme for 16 to 24 year old NEETs, I love it and do a little bit of teaching type work. I am also a foster carer, which I also enjoy but couldn't do it as my old job as I don't get any mental stimulation from it.

Alouisee · 18/12/2011 22:19

I'm impressed Catinboots

ScaredOfEverything · 18/12/2011 22:19

I'm a banker [flush]

ReindeerBollocks · 18/12/2011 22:19

Alouisee - volunteering or Open Uni?

ScaredOfEverything · 18/12/2011 22:19

yellowraincoat · 18/12/2011 22:21

Previouslyonlost: how much free time would you say you get? How long is your working day? I'm not lazy, but I really need time to recharge my batteries or I get super stressed.

Alouisee · 18/12/2011 22:21

Thanks reindeer but I don't have the self motivation for open uni. Volunteering might work if it was with animals, I think I'm better with them than people.

tethersjinglebellend · 18/12/2011 22:22

Advisory teacher for children in care.

ReindeerBollocks · 18/12/2011 22:23

How about seeing if your local college does an evening Diploma in Animal Care (if you can get someone to have the children in the evening -don't know your circumstances so don't want to presume).

Minshu · 18/12/2011 22:23

I do something to do with computers (that's what I'd admit to at a party).

Not particularly stimulating or satisfying - was thinking of teaching, but this thread is making me reconsider...

Pantofino · 18/12/2011 22:23

I buy IT equipment/services/software for a big Telecoms company.

Alouisee · 18/12/2011 22:24

Never even heard of that! Will investigate further.
