Currently in teaching, and HATE it!

Any inspirational ideas? Xx

Oh, and if you hate teaching get out if you can. I loved it until I found myself in the wrong school, with the wrong HT at the wrong time. My biggest regret is sticking it out for so long. I'd loved my previous teaching jobs and I kept hoping things would improve.

One of ds's teachers left to be a chiropodist! She must really have hated kids! Grin

I would recommend retraining for counselling to anyone, but unfortunately it doesn't pay the bills. Good thing I still have the day job and love it.

TheMaskedPan · 18/12/2011 23:04

Two jobs. One is a manager/team leader in a Probation Trust. The other one is a secret, and to say I would have to kill you all.Grin

Roughwiththesmooth · 18/12/2011 23:06

Another teacher. I'm on mat leave at the moment and looking forward to going back FT in Jan- although my feelings might have changed by the first half term! Grin

Mummyrev · 18/12/2011 23:07

Another ex teacher here, now a vicar. Great job but busy this time of year.

stayformulledwine · 18/12/2011 23:08

Bartender/supervisor, used to love it, does my head in now. Starting college in the new year, Accountancy.

QueenLush · 18/12/2011 23:08

I work at an international organisation/think tank (as it is sometimes described).

upatdawn · 18/12/2011 23:11

Well I was a careers advisor until that particular area was deemed unnecessary by the government Angry
Am now retraining as a councellor and am loving it!

ShellyBoobs · 18/12/2011 23:11

I'm a commercial director (supply side) in an American owned, global manufacturing business. I look after the EMEA regions.

I don't really enjoy my job - the hours are long (mainly because I'm often abroad and the distances from airports to regional offices) and it's stressful at the best of times.

I don't actually enjoy making decisions such as where a new production line should be located or whether a particular product should be made in a particular country or transported there. The reason being that I find it hard not to dwell on the human side of it (people's jobs) and it's that which causes the stress.

Perhaps I should seriously consider doing something else; I just don't know what. This type of work is all I know...

It's interesting to see so many people posting who are in the public sector. Is that a refelction of MN in general, or just the people who've chosen to post on this thread, maybe?

upatdawn · 18/12/2011 23:25

I know, sooty it really is so fulfilling. I'm currently on my first placement and I can't believe how much I enjoy it!

ilovesooty · 18/12/2011 23:30

Good luck upatdawn

Where's your placement? I did one at an agency counselling victims and perpetrators of DV untill it closed down. My other was with a bereavement charity. I still volunteer and sit on two of their committees and they rent me rooms ad hoc as I need them.

Nikkid21 · 18/12/2011 23:34

SAhm + I sell larger cup size bras on eBay as and when I can get the stock.

Jynxed · 18/12/2011 23:34

I project manage the design and build of hospitals, or parts of hospitals. Very interesting and fulfilling, but can be extremely stressful at times, and the hours are too long. However, cannot think of anything else I would rather do, love it day to day, and extremely proud of the end results.

drfayray · 18/12/2011 23:37

Research Fellow in Telemedicine. Absolutely love love love my job.

sillymillyb · 18/12/2011 23:49

I used to be an events manager specialising in sporting events and festivals - long hours and living in hotels for about 8 months of the year, but an amazing buzz and great people. Most meetings take place round a bottle of Jack Daniels and as a woman you have to be able to hold your own with rowdy blokes cos they will try to push their luck just to see if they can. I loved it (but had to give it up when I became pregnant)

Am now scanning this thread for ideas on my new career too!

1Catherine1 · 18/12/2011 23:49

teacher too... Currently had enough and thinking about retraining. Unfortunately I have no idea what to retrain too and can't afford to fall back down to the bottom of the ladder. My BSc is in maths.

ViviPrudolf · 18/12/2011 23:53

Interesting post Shelly, I also noted the high instance of public sector workers.

Hardgoing · 18/12/2011 23:55

Academic. I like it.

hermionestranger · 18/12/2011 23:55

Currently a part student and check out staff in the evenings and full time mum in the day to two DS ( 6 and 1). Hopefully in a few years, post degree, I shall be able to put something fancy down as my job title . Quite what that will be remains to be seen, just need to get my degree under my belt. That will be full time from September.Grin Confused
