Notalone what would an OT do for someone with substance misuse problems??

OT does sound interesting!

Police Officer here... I love that the job is different every day, can be exciting, but also very dull. Seen some hilarious things, seen the saddest of things. All in all I love my job it is fab... Could never be a teacher, respect all you who are!

Hey Fairy. OT is amazing and really varied too. I am currently not working in an OT capacity because there are no jobs, but an OT might teach harm reduction strategies in relation to substance misuse, would try to encourage people to replace maladaptive behaviour with more positive activities and would try to understand and or find out why the person abuses substances in order to address this issue too. They would usually work collaboratively with other professionals and or services in order to manage this. Its really rewarding Smile

Psychiatric nurse, been qualified for 16 years. And I love it. Work part time. With a lovely team of nurses and other health professionals.

I work with teenagers who are pregnant or have kids already. They drive me nuts but no one should speak ill of them infront of me, I will defend then Grin

I also am a trustee to a charity, and run a autism support social group.

YESTERDAY icouldnt spell engineer. Today I is one.

I love it, the combination of logic, maths, organisation and arty shite when designing stuff is just fab.

sausageandpickle · 19/12/2011 22:36

i used to be a teacher, but found it was taking too much of our family time at evenings and weekends, I did some supply which was better, but obviously the money isn"t guaranteed, so I looked for a p/t teaching job, but now I'm a HLTA in a special school working with kids with MH problems. I love it, have loads of time with the kids, teach and prepare lessons, the bits I loved about teaching, but don't have the crowd control element as v small groups, and far less paperwork to do! I can forget about it in the evenings, but often find I do stuff for work in my own time, as a choice, not because someone is pressuring me to get it done

I run my own fitness business, teaching classes (Pilates, Zumba, Body combat, spin etc) and running fitness Bootcamps...I LOVE IT as I am my own boss, and the money's not bad for a part time job (about 25 hours a week) but it has the stress of a non-guaranteed income (though am thinking not many incomes are guaranteed these days!) and also I work weekends/evenings/early mornings and have only had 2 days off since Aug bank holiday. But I get to eat loads and stay thin Xmas Grin

Shakey1500 · 19/12/2011 23:04

I'm an actor and also work PT in a well known DIY store Grin

swanfall · 19/12/2011 23:05

I LOVE threads like this! I especially love reading about those of you who do a combination of part-time jobs, they always sound so creative and fascinating and like you've worked really hard to make money out of doing something you love.

I can't say what I do because it's too googleable, but am now off to find out what a fanfiction writer is and see if I can be one Grin

NotTheBlinkingGruffaloAgain · 19/12/2011 23:14

devonshireduckling · 22/12/2011 03:25

can someone talk to me about tutoring? I really want to get back into work and have taught at university level, before DC 2 made an appearance. I loved teaching in small groups, getting information across etc. What kind of thing would I have to consider?

Gonzo33 · 22/12/2011 05:20
