aibu to think that at my age I should have 'grown out' of my eczema???

I am 33 years old

I distinctly remember my gp telling my mum that I would grow out of it by the time I hit my teens -they lied!

I have just spent the last hour smothering myself in cream and now I feel all greasy -it's not a good look!

everytime the weather changes it flares up and I've had enough of it now -grumble grumble grumble

I'm the same, definitely have not grown out of it as promised.

Now the cold weather is here its making me miserable.

I haven't grown out of my asthma as promised yet. I'm also 33. Mind you, I haven't grown out of finding willies and farting funny either.

Most people do grow out of it, I didnt either.

Im currently sporting the extra sexy eczema on my scalp look. :)

OH 'grew out' of his epilepsy age 34 so there's still hope!

is it actually excema or is it psoriasis?
mine was misdiagnosed as dandruff for 20 years - till I went to see the GP and got a newly qualified locum who looked at my skin more closely than she did the history of notes
and my skin was 85% healed within weeks with the right treatment

definitely eczema -used to see the hospital dermatologist

at the moment it's on my scalp not good when I have to wear black for work , back of my neck, inside my ear, inside my elbows, behind my knees and on my feet -and all my skin is dry as a sandpaper

Grumble grumble... cold.... hot... cold.... central heating.... arrrghhh. Yep. Pushing 30 and still there, I think 'growing out' is just a theory. I use a mixture of moisturiser (mostly diprobase), savlon, sudocrem, vaseline and occasionally (and not if I can possibly help it!) a bit of steroid cream.

Got any top tips (except a week in the sunshine?) --- my only one is that if it all gets tooooooo itchy and inflamed, soak it in salty water.

Ah well, it's nearly the shortest day, which means we're getting closer to summer!!! xx

Oh I feel your pain! I'm 26+1 and pregnancy has flared up my eczema no end! The insides of my elbows are a mess, the back of my neck is equally as bad, and I have it so badly round my eyes that I look like a panda bear Sad

I'm allergic to sudocreme, and E45 :(

I use dermol lotion as a general moisturiser and steroid cream mainly on my feet

I also super rinse all my washing as soap powder really sets me off

I only started having eczema in my mid twenties. before that I just had dry skin but not the itching, redness, weeping, scaling...

Can I ask something please...

I think DD has developed eczema ...

Does it start as tiny white bumps, kind of under the skin?

My sister had it very badly as a kid ...she did grow out of it -I know it can run in families?

Today the doctor wasn't sure Confused we have very hard water here plus its very cold (US)

It started on her knicker line (behind) then to her hand ...inside her elbow and behind the knee, :)

I sympathise as I was promised that I'd grow out of my asthma, harrumph is all I can say to that!

(can I suggest having a look at Elena cream, if it works for you you can get it on the NHS, and it's ever so mild)

Me too - mostly on my hands just now but shoulders, back of knees etc itchy too.

I make sure we never tell ds1 that he will grow out of it, as he has it really badly, and I dont know whether that affects whether you grow out of it or not, but I dont want him to resent me when he hits 30 and is still scratching.

You are my twin work that could have been posted by me, I am exactly the same! That said, when my DD was tiny she had it too, and the various HCPs all said "oh she'll grow out of it" and I went Hmm and thought "no she bloody won't, I didn't" and she did thankfully! It's just me who got stuck with the fucker :(

all classic places for eczema but white bumps not something I get

I have dyshidrotic eczema which means my skin blisters, then cracks and dries out and then the cycles continues

my dd has the more classic eczema which resembles excessively dry skin, which she then scratches and it gets very sore an weepy

I would treat your dd as though it is eczema and see if it helps

how old is she?

Me too, I'm 41 and mine has been much worse as an adult than as a child. Flared up horrendously after having DC's 8 years ago, still got it. In the new year am going to try the hard drugs (immuno suppressants) which I have been too terrified to take until now. Just so fed up with it am now prepared to try anything, however scary it is.

Workshy she was 3 last week.

Actually they are not white bumps as such (my mistake), more like tiny raised bumps -to start. They then become red and it sort of spreads.

It looks very ,very ,dry she scratches and it bleeds just a tiny bit (like a scratch mark)

Yours sounds very painful, I'm sorry to hear abut your DD too.

Today I googled natural ways to treat it, apparently organic coconut oil is amazing?

YANBU. I'm 32 and still waiting 20 years later to grow out of my psoriasis. It always flares up due to central heating and cold weather, but only on my face and scalp.
I do have months where it's totally disappeared but then it's back with a vengeance.

It's a right PITA, you are not alone!

I get the white bumps on my hands just before a break out - early warning sign that can be fixed with a little dod of steroid cream.

Feminine poor DS1 has awful eczema outbreaks, and I refuse to use the steroid creams as i've read so much about the detrimental effects, anyway, he's had the bumps you talk about and the doctor has confirmed that that too is eczema Sad his skin looks awful at the moment but I dont find any of the prescribed stuff works.

Lush's Dream Cream does seem to work a treat and I 've heard good things about the hemp cream from Body Shop

We've been told he'll grow out of it, not convinced as my brother, 30, and sister, 43, still get it really badly

the most annoying thing about eczema (apart from the itching) for me is that everyone is different and you have to find out what works for you.
I have discovered that I react to parafin based creams but weleda creams (skin food) works well for me. but other can't use creams with lanolin, it's all about trial and error. and just when your skin is better you see that dreadfull sticker on the bottle of your cream "new improved formula", just reading that makes me itch.
