to be somewhat concerned that city link are delivering a parcel to me tomorrow

Or not delivering it as the case may be.
Further to the previous threads I am now planning on spending all day looking out of my window or possibly standing with the front door open in order to make sure the driver doesnt just photograph my house and drive off again.

I was considering making a big sign saying 'I AM IN' with tomorrow's date on it and sticking it to the front door so that it would show on any photographic evidence.

Would it be unreasonable to do so?

It wouldn't BU at all.

I've just experienced a week of eyeball popping Shitty Link induced rage.

Favourite moments were:

  • Them claiming to have attempted to deliver it four times at times when I'd been in the house (2 days I waited in all day).
  • Checking the tracking info on the website to discover that I had actually taken delivery of it and signed for it 3 days previously Hmm
  • After they agreed to leave it in a concealed place in the garden, and after me leaving a note in a plastic wallet taped to the front door saying "Please leave it in the place instructed by your customer services colleagues. If you are not aware of this arrangment or there is a problem please call me on XXXX"... finding yet another "while you were out" on the door mat.

It finally arrived this afternoon after I threw my toys out of the pram big time and phoned them every hour, all day, until they promised to get their shit together.

Useless twits

Bethshine82 · 13/12/2011 23:18

That does not fill me with confidence! I want this parcel in time for Christmas!

The depot is only two miles away. I will have to go down there and stamp my feet until my parcel appears if when I have problems.

I did not know the place I ordered from used city link but they rang me today to say my order was just going 'on to the city link van' and my heart sank.

I, on the other hand, had a seamless CityLink delivery on Saturday morning.

They have been total shysters on previous occasions though.

hickerybobp · 14/12/2011 07:29

I paid for next day delivery for the 9th, apparently my item was signed for on the 9th, I didnt recieve it. In the end I contacted the company I had ordered from, explained that the items had not arrived and they refunded me and cancelled the order.
This morning my items arrive.... DP signed for them. If it has been me who answered the door I would have refused to sign for it. BAH!

bigbadbarry · 14/12/2011 07:30

YANBU. Be afraid.

Angelswings · 14/12/2011 07:37

Another company, but my neighbour phoned me last week to say I had her parcel, I had signed for it the day before.....

In fact I had only taken one box from the driver, it had my name on. However it turned out he had wrongly got me to sign the electronic form for my neighbour but never given me the packet and my parcel was never signed for (except maybe by him once he'd realised hs mistake)

ConnorCamden · 14/12/2011 09:19

I'm sick of delivery companies. Yodel were meant to deliver something yesterday. I was in ALL day. I checked the tracker and at 3:19 they had been but nobody was in and they had left a card. No, they hadn't been and no they hadn't left a card. Idiots. I'm now having to take today off work to get this delivery.

manticlimactic · 14/12/2011 09:49

I was mightily impressed with Yodel (was worrying after all the complaints on here) They called me this morning saying they'd be here with my mattress between 8 and 10. They arrived!! Yay! Unfortunately I think I have someone elses mattress as this isn't the one I ordered and it isn't from the company I ordered it from.

Driver just had a note for me to sign...no item numbers or anything. Only noticed when I opened the wrapping and could tell it wasn't the one I ordered.

So a thumbs up on delivery but a thumbs down on the wrong item Xmas Sad . Now I have to find a place for the bloody thing until they pick it back up!!

manticlimactic · 14/12/2011 09:53

Oh and they guy from the company I ordered from confirmed it would be Yodel again who picked it up and I asked him why they use them after I'd seen loads of complaints on t'internt. He said I have no control over which pile of wank they use Xmas Grin. Aww he was a lovely bloke. Made me laugh after all the hassle so now I'm in a good mood which I wasn't when I called.

I do hope they don't record ALL calls Xmas Shock

Floggingmolly · 14/12/2011 09:55

I chased the postman down the road on Friday when a "we tried to deliver but you were out" card came through the door when I was standing in the hall! He legged it and was very reluctant to stop, but eventually admitted he didn't have the parcel Xmas Confused. Claimed he had tried to deliver it the day before, so helpfully returned the next day with a note to tell me this, instead of the actual parcel. I thought this crap was an urban myth. Xmas Sad

takeonboard · 14/12/2011 09:56

I have 2 parcels due today from Amazon - 1 with City Link 1 with Royal Mail.
I don't know which is worse Hmm

Scholes34 · 14/12/2011 11:40

Love Royal Mail - depot is a ten minute cycle ride away. Worry if I'm to expect something via CityLink - depot is an hour's drive away, and as I'm seldom in when they want to deliver, I know which I prefer.

MaryBeWaiting · 14/12/2011 11:46

Hope it all works out, there does seem to be regional problems.

I've had a lot of stuff delivered by Yodel and have found them excellent, despite what I've read elsewhere!

mateysmum · 14/12/2011 11:52

I have a lovely guy deliver from My Hermes who Land's End use and Amazon as well sometimes. They also do returns pick ups which you can organise on line really easily.

My dog is now this chaps personal chum and doesn't even bark when he comes (fat lot of use as a guard dog!).

MaryPoppinsMagic · 14/12/2011 12:06

If you're all so fed up of delivery companies why don't you go into a shop yourselves and buy the item?

Thus cutting out all the stress of waiting by windows, making signs and wasting precious time posting about experiences on here..

Oh and if the item is to big for your car rent a van and then get it yourself thus again cutting out the stress of 'evil' delivery companies..

QuietNinjaMincepie · 14/12/2011 12:13

Because then you'd have all the stress of negotiating Xmas shoppers and crowds in the town. Plus I think things like a mattress are a bit difficult to carry home. You'd still get people coming on for a moan cos that's what mumsnet is for!

mummytime · 14/12/2011 12:29

Here: Parcel Force or Royal mail never knock or ring bell, just leave parcel outside. Yodel sent it out on the van didn't even try to deliver (someone wa sin all day) eventually did deliver. Various people leave parcels at : similar address down the road, or here for them; or sometimes dump on a random person in this road's doorstep. Or Can't be A to carry up to front door so instead of leaving it on pretty safe front step, abandon it near the road somewhere, sometimes nicely on display to any person wandering by.

Bethshine82 · 14/12/2011 12:34

I couldn't find this item locally in shops and with a two year old in tow have found Christmas shopping a bit of a trial anyway this year.
Thing is when you've paid for a service you expect it to be as it should be the majority of the time.

I am still waiting. I am not hopeful.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 14/12/2011 12:40

MaryPoppins, if you don't like reading people sounding off about their frustrations with sub-standard delivery companies, why bother reading the thread and wasting precious time posting on here?

You don't know how many of us are disabled, are short of time to go shopping, are short of money and need to take advantage of cheap internet deals...

bigbrownmincepies · 14/12/2011 13:36

If any of you pop over to martin lewis' webiste
www.moneysavingexpert.com
there are tips on there on how to get compensation for your time being wasted on failed deliveries.....
worth a look?

mollymole · 14/12/2011 13:38

YODEL are, in my experience a total heap of sh*t. Waited in all day for a text book to be delivered. Tracker said it would come on the Monday and it did not. Next day waited in again, tracker said would be delivered that day, all day I waited, at 5.00pm contacted them and was told it was out for delivery
and could be any time up to six o'clock. Well six o clock comes and nothing delivered so call tehm and theysay 'Oh he tried to deliver at 5.20pm and could not get you so he put a card through your letterbox' Did he hell like. I was stood at the door at that very time speaking to my husband who had just arraived home. When I tell them this they say they can re-schedule for Thursday - I ask can they be sure it will arrive as Monday it was due and nothing came and Tuesday their lying shit of a driver claimed to have carded me when he had not. They 'cannot guarantee anything madam, sorry !!!' - Can i speak to the supervisor please as I have already waited in for 2 days for scheduled deliveries which never happened. NO you can't you are not allowed to speak to supervisor, they can call you back within 48 hours - will you be available to take their call. Will I buggery - Eventually I persuade them to let me speak to a supervisor and they are quite helpful and can see that my parcel has been returned to depot (just after 6pm). Which was quite amazing as it is well over an hour to the depot and the driver had claimed to card me at 5.20. As they cannot guarantee that a delivery will take place on the day scheduled an alternative was to collect from the depot and get this, you will need to bring your card that they left when they tried to deliver - SCREAMS of frustration followed by supervisor turning into a gibbering apologetic wreck. He then agrees that parcel can be set aside, personally, by himself and we will agree a password over the telephone. Parcel eventually collected the next day from their depot. Letter of complaint written, e mail sent - NO ANSWER from YODEL. Complained to supplier of textbook who said he had no control over who they used but they were used to receiving complaints about delivery agents !!

Sorry for the length of this whinge. BUT YODEL ARE SHIT !!!!

I have just received my Royal mail parcel, 1 down.......no sign of the city link parcel yet and BAD NEWS, Brand Alley have just let me know that they have sent my order with YODEL!

Bethshine82 · 14/12/2011 15:20

My city Link parcel arrived! They also asked me to sign for a very sorry looking battered parcel with 'fragile' tape all over it (clearly been ignored) for my neighbour but I said no! I was a bit wary as he didn't show me next door's parcel before asking me to sign. Then said he'd go and fetch it whilst I was signing but I wanted to check it first. It was split across the top with a big dent in the side.

Anyway, one success story with city link at least!
