To call the police?

Ok so a random one.

There is a young asian guy that lives up the road from us (street at right angles to ours so not really 'neighbours')

I have only seen him once or twice, and this is only because is he is quite precious(?) with his car, and if he cant park it in his "space" outside of his house then he would park outside of ours, so he could see if from his window. It's only an 04 Kia type thing, but anyways.

All of the above isnt really relevant, so...

The car hasn't moved since the beginning of October, possibly longer. Not an inch. Havent seen the guy either. And of course the more I think about it the more I think it's all a bit weird? I know he lives alone, and now have visions of him dead in there being eaten by his cat or something, although to be fair I don't even think he has a cat.

So, do I ring the police, and tell them there is a car in our street belonging to a neighbour that hasn't moved for over 2 months, and risk sounding like a complete loon-- or do I mind my own business?

Really Cervix! How alienist of you!

CarolCervix · 10/12/2011 12:34

i knw. i'm shocking and will ensure i do the online workshop covering equal opportunities again later.

WorraLiberty · 10/12/2011 12:35

Is no-one bothered about the cat?

He must have run out of recipe ideas by now.

Selks · 10/12/2011 12:38

Mabel, one of my colleagues at work has just departed on a five week trip to Pakistan, should I ring the police? Xmas Hmm

Would it help if I told you he is visiting family and attending a couple of weddings?

CarolCervix · 10/12/2011 12:38

he's probably lying if he's asian Selks.

TerraNotSoFirma · 10/12/2011 12:39

Xmas Grin @ Carol

SucksToBeMe · 10/12/2011 12:43

This thread should be reported. I am very offended that the OP mentioned the car by its make.
Why did she feel the need to name it as a KIA?
As a ford driver I feel alienated.

pixie04 · 10/12/2011 12:51

Calling the non emergency line is a good idea. They can advise you whether you should ask neighbours, check the car ect. And good on you for being a good neighbour! Wish more people gave a cr*p about the people they live near.

It does sound like quiet a change in his routine which could mean he's unwell or worse. Even if it's something less dramatic like he can't afford to run the car, it's SORN, in need of repair ect still better to be sure he's ok. You never know he could have already been reported missing and you could be assisting any investigation by letting them know his car hasn't moved. Maybe I've watched too much CSI! Xmas Smile

Love reading all the implications of racism because OP described the missing man as Asian. Very entertaining! Personally I think it's just a description that isn't implying anything.

SardineQueen · 10/12/2011 12:51

Hahahaha at mabel

Seriously?

Hahahahaha Grin

I think you should either knock on some doors or call the police on non emergency number OP. I hope the man is OK.

poppercondria · 10/12/2011 13:00

OP, you're a nice neighbour. Knock on his door and if he answers, just explain that you were worried about him as the car hadn't moved. His mama would be very happy to know you're looking out for him!

Catsmamma · 10/12/2011 13:08

I think he is moving the car...he is only doing it when you are out.

:D

and as for the undesirable classes, funniest thing I have read all day!

Geordieminx - Be careful, you just called your DH a scouser! ommmmmm!

Geordieminx · 10/12/2011 18:27

Geordieminx · 10/12/2011 18:32

Infact the only reason I know his car hasn't moved in 2 months is because Dh went out and robbed the wheels back in November Grin

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 10/12/2011 18:36

Mabel - wtf?

Ring the Police, I need to know.

JustGiveMeTheWine · 10/12/2011 18:36

Well obviously thats why his car is still there!

Those bloody scousers!!!

crypes · 10/12/2011 18:41

Because his Asian, he might of gone to asia for a couple of months, he might have business over there or extended family putting him up.

EllenandBump · 10/12/2011 18:47

Maybe its best to just get it checked out, and although i appreciate what is being said about opening the letter box, you would smell a dead body, for one, do you really want to smell something like that? Or two, they bloke may not have died at home or could have been murdered, institutionalised, in hospital or called to poorly relatives. Getting it cheecked never does any harm to anyone. My uncle adrian died, and the only thing that drew anyones attention to his death (died of drug and drink overdose stupid * ) was that the milk wasnt being taken indoors as the milkman delivered it. The fact that you have noticed might mean there is something out of place.

I am not suggesting that all Pakistanis are involved in terrirism. All unattended luggage /bags are removed at Heathrow 'just in case' but how many dangerous ones have been identified? What's the difference between the two in being careful.

I...what?

LondonMumsie · 10/12/2011 19:27

I have heritage here and elsewhere. Quite happily call both home. "We'll be at home for Christmas" means here. "We're flying home for Christmas" means there.

Clear as muck and not at all racist. Xmas Smile

RoryCeilingCat · 10/12/2011 19:29

a few weeks ago, I'd have thought calling police a slight overreaction.

Last Saturday we had a call asking if we'd heard from a close (but a bit flaky) friend. He hadn't contacted his girlfriend (who lived elsewhere) for a few days. We hadn't, and our texts went unanswered. he hadn't been to work, car parked outside. On Tues I had a call to say police had gone in. To cut story short, he'd died in his sleep, of natural causes, aged 39.

So, please call police. Because we all scoffed at idea our friend was dead- too young, too healthy. But he was.

LondonMumsie · 10/12/2011 19:30

Are you comparing a human being to an unattended bag muffino82?

(asking as someone who has informed someone in authority every time she has seen unattended bag but never felt the need to tell someone everytime she sees a Pakistani?)
