wasn't originally by Adele but Bob Dylan and to be feeling a bit indignant that a) no-one told me and b) everyone (including me) loved Adele because of that song and it wasn't even hers (although I do prefer her version)

Are there any other covers I should know about?

I have to confess... I did'nt know Bob did it first, oh well, her version is fab, and quite haunting!

MenopausalHaze · 21/11/2011 21:33

Fabulous song - I thought Rebecca Ferguson made a fine job of it on X Factor last year

Whateveryousaymustberight · 21/11/2011 21:33

Yes. You are extremely unreasonable. That's all I have to say about that.
Wink.

discobeaver · 21/11/2011 21:37

Tainted Love isn't a Marilyn Manson original. Or Soft Cell, it was originally recorded by Gloria Jones in the sixties.
Also the Lemonheads didn't do the original of Ms Robinson, but I do think I like their version better.

discobeaver · 21/11/2011 21:38

Mrs Robinson! Not Ms Robinson, arf!

BarkisIsWillin · 21/11/2011 21:48

Afaik every other track on both her albums (19 and 21) was written by Adele. I think she does a brilliant job of the Dylan song.

EverythingsNotRosie · 21/11/2011 21:51

Also, although Bob Dylan wrote the song, it was sung by Billy Joel first and Dylan recorded it later.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 21/11/2011 21:51

Well, I've no idea what that Adele song sounds like (was she the one chasing pavements?), and I had no idea there was any other version of Mrs Robinson than Simon & Garfunkel's!

You do know American Pie wasn't penned by Madonna, I take it?

squeakytoy · 21/11/2011 21:53

"I will always love you" is an original Dolly Parton song too, not Whitney Houston..

Apology accepted ruby

I knew about American Pie but not I will always love you

I once came across some people who believed that Uptown Girl by Westlife was an original. They were quite young though in their defense

OP posts:
WhatsWrongWithYou · 22/11/2011 08:33

'I'll be there' by Westlife was originally done by a 9yo Michael Jackson in a beautiful soprano.

Dolly's version of that song is far superior to screeching Witney's. Makes me cry. Blush

belgo · 22/11/2011 08:36

I am listening to the Bob Dylan version now and I prefer Adele.

Very few singers have actually written the songs that they sing.

There is another cover that was in the charts recently - by a girl with a very soft voice, can't remember her name or the name of the song, does anyone know?

Pagwatch · 22/11/2011 08:40

Gawd. Young people today.

How did you not know Dolly wrote I will always love you.

you know Michael Jackson and not Mariah warble arse carey was responsible for Ill be there.
