It's time to start drooling think about 2012's stationery requirements.

Grin

DH seems to think having a notsofarking smart phone negates the need for a paper diary.

[grr]

But I need a proper book - it's just so much easier to flick through pages and see a whole week's appointements in coffee shops than sit there fiddling with buttons isn't it?

So, AIBU to think that in this digital age, the paper diary still has its place?

A paper dairy? Wouldn't that get soggy when it rained.

ParsleyTheLioness · 17/11/2011 17:46

I agree with you, but the word dairy in the title threw me...

UnderneathTheMangledTree · 17/11/2011 17:46

Doesn't the milk soak in though?

Ha ha I am soooo amusing Grin. I am complete tech lover but always stick to paper diary and family calendar thing. A diary is just nicer and you get to linger over lovely leathers and acid free paper and use perfectly black fibretip pens. So YANBU!

ParsleyTheLioness · 17/11/2011 17:46

Ooh cross posts...

AssCants · 17/11/2011 17:48

Oh ignore the typo, please.

Long day.

Yes. It has to be a fibretip as well - preferably green or pruple.

Makes my writig look lovely and neat.

Ah yes amusing but not original. Anyway, as this is in AIBU of course I got the tone completely wrong and should have replied:

Paper dairy??? WTF?? I can't be believe you even posted that, Jesus what a sense of entitlement you have to think you can just decide to have a paper one even though you have a smartphone. And why is your "D"H commenting on the situation at all?

Leave him.

OldGreyWassailTest · 17/11/2011 18:02

And a pruple paper dairy at that ! I want one sob sob.

But I agree with you - everyone in our house uses the paper diary, so we can all see what's going on so you ANBU.

AssCants · 17/11/2011 18:04

Heh Heh heh, Magled. Grin

I think AIBU is allowed to be used for frivolities, as long as it can be answered with YABU/YANBU.

Confused

I hope so anyway.

I just use my phone calendar - couldn't function without it tbh.

Cartoonjane · 17/11/2011 18:27

Im with you OP. I cant get on with my smartphone diary and still buy a lovely paper one.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 17/11/2011 18:47

Paper all the way here, both at home and work!

This thread has reminded me I need to start trying to source a cheap 2012 Taschen diary (love them cos I store all my crap important documents in the dust cover flaps)

warmandwooly · 17/11/2011 18:52

No that is totally reasonable! I love choosing a diary and writing stuff in it! Go for it!

MissBetsyTrotwood · 17/11/2011 19:06

Definitely not unreasonable at all. I can't think on a screen, iykwim.

I raise you your diary to a wall calendar though. Grin

electricslide · 17/11/2011 19:07

Paper here too. Been trying for the past two days to get the moleskine site to let me order next years one, but bloody can't get it to work.
I even ordered a couple of diary apps bit didn't get on with them at all.
I'm a moleskine vertical weekly planner girl.

Dolcegusto · 17/11/2011 20:11

Yadnbu. I can't get on with iPhone calendar. It just takes ages to enter anything and you can't see it properly.

But it anyone knows where I can get a 4days to view diary so it has mon-tues on one page, wed-thu on next, them fri-sat and sun-notes so kind of 4 pages for a week but also no bigger than a6 size, a5 is too big.

KeepInMindItsAlmostChristmas · 17/11/2011 20:13

I had a calender with a line for everyone, I have a paper diary and (no laughing) a filofax

KeepInMindItsAlmostChristmas · 17/11/2011 20:13

have

smartyparts · 17/11/2011 20:39

YANBU

I have all the gizmos, but can't function without my paper planner

orienteerer · 17/11/2011 20:41

YANBU - I only have the paper version, I love MoleskineGrin.

Jacaqueen · 17/11/2011 20:43

No laughing here. I still use the red leather Filofax I got in 1988.

NinkyNonker · 17/11/2011 20:44

Yanbu, I'm a Moleskine fan too. I had a mid year one that has run out so I'm having to use my phone till new year...not the same!

orienteerer · 17/11/2011 20:44

Dolcegusto - try Moleskine Panoramic Diary(scroll down)?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 17/11/2011 20:45

I have two diaries. I have an academic one where I write lists of things that need to be done plus all appointments

I also have a Jan to Jan one which I use to record what we did. Even if some days that entry only says "went to school".

ToothbrushThief · 17/11/2011 20:50

I function with a smartphone synched to my work diary. I LOVE it.

Even if the phone died I'd retain all my diary details. I can access easily everywhere and update it everywhere and shift, change, edit entries all the time.

Everything goes in there (brownies needs subs, conference in manchester...) and it beeps (if told to) to remind me

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/11/2011 20:50

Arf at UnderneathTheMangledTree.

I always have a paper diary and can find my appointments in half the time my friends spend scrolling through the endless junk on their smartphones.
