It's time to start drooling think about 2012's stationery requirements.

Grin

DH seems to think having a notsofarking smart phone negates the need for a paper diary.

[grr]

But I need a proper book - it's just so much easier to flick through pages and see a whole week's appointements in coffee shops than sit there fiddling with buttons isn't it?

So, AIBU to think that in this digital age, the paper diary still has its place?

YANBU to want a paper diary for home use.

YADBU if you want one for work, and despite all guidance to the contrary use that instead of your Outlook calendar (personal bugbear)

teeschlurfenderdino · 17/11/2011 20:57

I so want a pruple dairy! Does anyone know where I can get one?

UnderneathTheMangledTree · 17/11/2011 21:25

If you can do without your supermarket shopping give this a whirl in purple. An absolute snip.

UnderneathTheMangledTree · 17/11/2011 21:29

Or if you mean a slightly brighter shade of expensive this

Vicki1981 · 17/11/2011 21:32

Oh god no! I adore real diarys and calendars. Actually any stationery...

I just bought myself the mums family calendar for everyone in the house (read: me) and its fab. Can't wait to get the desk diary!

Oh, and I'm a graphic designer, typically obsessed with tech and gadgets.

Does the Dairy Diary still exist? My mum got given one every year by her MiL and always gave it to me. I used it to write in imaginary dates with boys I fancied.

AssCants · 17/11/2011 21:41

Before or after the event Betsy?

YANBU. have a lovely shiny glossy purple diary for 2012 from John Lewis Smile. Shock at Smythson diaries!

Last time I was trying to arrange a date to meet with some girlfriends, when we were all together, I was the only one who pulled out a paper diary - they all pulled out various gadgets and gizmos! Shock Shock. And they all laughed at me.

Wigeon · 17/11/2011 21:45

Dairy Diary does still exist! My mum had those each year.

Paper diary all the way!

MissBetsyTrotwood · 18/11/2011 10:58

Might get one for next year.

Dates with boys I fancied were, sadly, always imaginary and lived forever in the realm of the Dairy Diary. (Alongside the pictures of Kingfishers etc.) I did snare one or two I liked but dates? Snogging in the station toilets on the way home from school. Grin

I hear you. Despite using TWO online diaries (cozi and google calendars - though I use that simply because when I shove stuff in my blackberry diary it automatically updates) and a work calendar, I still have a paper diary. A moleskin page a day one, with added post it notes for to do lists (there's lots).

I am LOVING that panorama one, but need to wait until 1st/2nd Jan to buy at a reduced price. (what I did last year - got fancy diary for about £5)

Acekicker · 18/11/2011 11:31

I love the idea of a paper diary and still yearn for my lovely filofax but it just wouldn't work for us. Me and DH both work and we have smartphones set up with shared calendars, we can both drop things in there easily and also activities/arrangements for DS - it avoid confusion about who is doing pickups/where people need to be etc. If we both kept paper diaries we'd have to schedule updating meetings every couple of days I reckon just to keep each other informed! We use googlecalendar on Android phones and I have 'agenda view' as my default which sets out all the upcoming appointments as a list (colour co-ordinated so I can see whose diary they are in etc).

Gargula · 18/11/2011 13:43

You are totally NBU. I have just ordered my diary, including a meal planner and tear out lists and themed stickers, from the internet today! Drool.
Can't get themed stickers on ya smartphone can ya???

Flanelle · 18/11/2011 13:53

I have a Moleskine diary (red, beautiful), and a calendar (Countryfile, with pretty photographs), and wouldn't go near an electronic diary with someone else's ten foot barge pole.

mamasmissionimpossible · 18/11/2011 14:03

My mum buys me a dairy diary for Christmas every year, bless her!

LizzieMo · 18/11/2011 14:17

I'm a paper sort of Gal too. My Mum also gets me a dairy diary, I must admit I never actually use it, but despite being a hopeless cook I like to look at the recipes. The household tips can also be useful in a 1950's housewife type of way.

HauntedHengshanRoad · 18/11/2011 14:24

Moleskine all the way!
