Horrible dribbly old thing

And the pillows not great either

YANBU. I hate anyone else using my pillow and wouldn't dream of using DHs. Not quite sure how he manages it, but his are all tangled up internally and don't even provide any support anymore. Plus the colour he seems to turn the actual pillow itself is horrible.

BarkisIsWillin · 05/11/2011 20:35

On the very rare occasion I get breakfast in bed, I plump up all the pillows within reach but make sure they are all behind my own pillow so I do not actually touch any others. (and yes, this is dh with whom I have no problem exchaning bodily fluids in the appropriate situation!!)

CaptainNancy · 05/11/2011 21:45

Wow! I thought it was just my DH....

Lifeissweet · 05/11/2011 21:50

What is that smell? My DP showers a lot - sometimes twice a day. He is clean - yet in the morning, the bedroom always smells like a barnyard and his pillow is revolting. I know it's not me, because he's sleeping in another room at the moment as I'm pregnant and uncomfortable and it stops him sleeping. Now the room he sleeps in smells like a barnyard and mine doesn't.

Why do they smell? I don't understand!

PigletJohn · 05/11/2011 21:51

might be his diet?

He does wash his hair daily?

Is the bedroom hot?

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 05/11/2011 21:51

No marks, embroidery or laundry pen needed in my house.

My nose gets within a foot (Confused) of his, and does a 'oops wrong one' swerve.

I did feel bad for DH when our youngest child pointed out that my pillow 'smells like mummy, yours smells nasty'

ColdSancerre · 05/11/2011 21:54

I have never noticed this. I'm left wondering if I need to worry and just what they're doing to their pillows.

PigletJohn · 05/11/2011 21:57

changing the subject just a bit...

some women like the smell of a man, and if he's away, will take a T-shirt or something to bed as sensory comforter.

My DP claims never to have heard of such a thing.

How common is it?

AllGoodNamesGone · 05/11/2011 21:58

This is the thing I love about mumsnet. Things which I thought were just me being weird turn out to be perfectly normal!

I don't want to go anywhere near DH pillow thank you very much! Mine has a different coloured case.

I also never turn the mattress as I might end up sleeping with my head on the bit his feet have been on.

BalloonTwister · 05/11/2011 22:00

Piglet, surely thats if the t-shirt smells of his aftershave, not the horrible sour smell currently wafting from DP's pillow?

BarkisIsWillin · 05/11/2011 22:01

Allgoodnames - I think you have hit the nail on the head Grin

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 05/11/2011 22:04

No no, my DH smells lovely. Most of the time.

He showers, he wears deodorant. I'm sure a tee shirt would be lovely.

Put it this way, if he died, I could totally see me doing that movie thing; going to the wardrobe, burying my face in one of his shirts and inhaling. And sobbing, and crumpling to the floor, still clutching the sodden shirt.

And then I'd strip the bed and burn the pillow.

MunchingNoPickles · 05/11/2011 22:04

I coloured the pillow protector label as his pillow hurts my back after a while and mine causes him to snore more.

Confuzzeled · 05/11/2011 22:05

And I thought I was being mean wanting my pillow all to myself and trying to sneak it out the bed when I get up in the morning. I love my dh but I don't want him near MY pillow.

PeppaPigandGeorge · 05/11/2011 22:06

Dear God, why have I not thought of initialling before?? Thank you OP!!! I'm off to scribble on the pillows!!

My DH's pillow always looks sort of greasy.. and he does wash at least once a day, hair included! I actually put the more comfortable pillow in the plain white "underneath" pillow case, so he'll swap it to sleep on and it won't spoil the nice White Company bedding.

dwpanxt · 05/11/2011 22:08

I also thought that I was the lnly one being precious about the nasty colour and smell of DHs pillow. Had to buy new ones a few weeks ago-plus portectors in an effort to keep the smell/stains away .Seems to be working so far three weeks and counting

However ,I do know of someone whose exH refused to allow her to change his pillow case -ever. His was a horrible earwax colour and stunk to high heaven.

He is of course EX h...

countessbabycham · 05/11/2011 22:13

I reckon men sweat more through the head.

I wonder if those ones that are supposed to allow a freer circulation of air would help.

Or one of those anti-bacterial ones - after all when dishcloths smell its because of the bacteria on them causing the smell.

EEwwww!

MyCatIsAFawkingGuyOfABastard · 05/11/2011 22:16

I thought it was just me. I've today boil washed DH's pillow - AGAIN !
H'es clean, washes his hair every day but my god does he get a rank smelling sweaty head at night.

MrsUnassumingTroll · 05/11/2011 22:19

Yes, yes, the smell!

DH refuses to accept that his pillow smells BUT IT DOES!

There is a definite boy odour. My cousins' bedrooms used to smell of it. Now our bedroom smells of it. I have to open the window ever day to air the room, even in winter.

I am so going to show him this thread.

LoveBeingAFirework · 05/11/2011 22:21

I'm so glad I have seen this thread, I am not a freak. I can't stand anyone using my pillow, and gate it when dh stripes/makes the bed as he mixes up all the pillows.

LeBOF · 05/11/2011 22:21

I love the smell of DP's pillow- I always move over to his side if he gets up before me.

PigletJohn · 05/11/2011 22:23

anyone got a bald DP?

oldsilver · 05/11/2011 22:24

I did this years ago Grin

Smell of dp - absolutely fine, quite nice really. Smell of very dribble soaked pillows the next morning - vomsome.

Even brand new pillows, next day - yuk. I've tried pillow protectors that I wash very very regularly - still yuk.

He freely admits to being a nocternal mouth dribbler.

countessbabycham · 05/11/2011 22:24

LeBOF is that because its a nice smell or a comfortable familiar smell?

If it's a nice smell can DP share his tips?

oldsilver · 05/11/2011 22:25

Yep my dp is bald piglet.
