Kids recently had a week off - half term. They were back this week then, guess what - teacher training day. Seriously, what I want to know is this: is there ANY other job in the country where you get:

  • 13 paid weeks holiday a year
  • Good pay
  • Good pension (believe me, you do compared to people who do proper jobs in private sector - if you dont believe me, try it)
  • And yet you still need these extra days to do some training. Training for what, exactly? Seriously, for what???? And how am I, as a parent, supposed to factor childcare in here.
  • Oh, and you still do nothing but moan about pay, pensions etc
  • Rant over

I'd bet my Grade 3 ballet mholdall is a man

ninah · 04/11/2011 23:37

see all we do is lounge around watching films

tethersend · 04/11/2011 23:37

I can't watch the sequel- Nicholas Cage? Bees? Angry

The original is my favourite film.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 04/11/2011 23:37

ilovesooty - he does get very long holidays. But does he have training?

Valpollicella · 04/11/2011 23:37

Oh that was AWFUL Jamie....

In the same vein, Alfie....Jude Law was just NOT Alfie

neverputasockinatoaster · 04/11/2011 23:37

Does Father Christmas have to do CPD and does he do it in his own time? I bet he's got rubbish A levels too.

Val- I'd say Paper Moon. I saw it again the other day, and it is still perfection.

JamieComeHome · 04/11/2011 23:39

Now - I have not seen the original Alfie, so I can't judge that one. But Jude Law was annoyingly Jude Law-ish in the second one

ilovesooty · 04/11/2011 23:40

Goodbye Mr Chips. Both the remakes were rubbish. Mind you, teachers were proper teachers then. None of those training days...they just taught the same thing every year.

TuftyFinch · 04/11/2011 23:40

LeBOF I second Paper Moon. It's in my top 10.

A Taste of Honey. Leave it alone.

Valpollicella · 04/11/2011 23:41

He's just Jude Law in everything, isn't he...

BoF, seconded.

I'm running a mandatory training day in how to effectively differentiate Christmas eve snacks for Father Christmas and the reindeer, paying particular attention to diversity issues and martyr requirements.

I'm holding it on mholdall's birthday, but will only send a letter out the day before to say that her child will be off school.

I expect to see all of you there.

tethersend · 04/11/2011 23:41

Alfie was a fucking travesty.

ilovesooty · 04/11/2011 23:42

Does Rudolph have an IEP on account of his red nose?

JamieComeHome · 04/11/2011 23:42

yes, I'm not 100% sure he can act ... Liked Talented Mr Ripley though

hauntedstateofmind · 04/11/2011 23:42

What a daft thread.

I am a teacher (secondary maths- and yes I have a decent degree from a RG uni).

I can't get over the persistent nastiness of a minority of parents on here. Students have long school holidays. They always have. How will you get people to be teachers if you don't offer a decent salary? They can't take out a second job just for the long holiday.

Teacher Training Days- well they are when we are trained on things like Child Protection, First Aid, dyslexia, supporting SN students, using new software etc etc.

Usually at my school these days are at the start of terms, but not always.

Teachers do not have any choice when these days are- it is decided by those at the top. Why go on blaming the teachers?

ouryve · 04/11/2011 23:42

I'll bring biscuits.

SpangledPandemonium · 04/11/2011 23:43

Don't Look Now

TuftyFinch · 04/11/2011 23:43

tethersend please can you make sure you reference the ECM codes and clearly state the aims and objectives.

tethersend · 04/11/2011 23:43

I accidentally took toddler DD out on halloween in her red duffel coat.

RantyMcRantpants · 04/11/2011 23:43

OP can you tell me if you could deal with a child who comes to you and tells you she has been raped by her father?

Could you deal with a child who has anger management issues and pulls a knife on you?

Could you deal with a child who has cut his wrists because he is being bullied via Facebook and mobile?

Just some of the things that has needed to be deal with since the begining of term.

JamieComeHome · 04/11/2011 23:44

surely there are Elf and Safety issues vis a vis chimney ingress and egress?

SpangledPandemonium · 04/11/2011 23:44

Brilliant. Glad I didn't witness that fleeting little flash of red hood. It will forever haunt me

tethersend · 04/11/2011 23:45

ECM is on the way out, sorry- it's SCM now.

Aims and objectives will be posted on the board.

It will also be peer assessed.
