DH REALLY showed us up tonight

CarrieOke · 03/11/2011 21:54

DH and I were invited to my parents for dinner tonight along with our DD(6). Also invited were my sister and her husband along with their DD(5).

Everything was going well until an advert for DisneyLand Paris came on TV and DH very uncharacteristically spat "oh fuck off with your screeching kids, what a pile of shit."

DH never swears and certainly never talks like this at someone elses house. Everyone was pretty shocked, mum pulled cats bum face but nobody said anything, I just gave him "the look".

DD then said "but daddy, I'd like to go to DisneyWorld". DH then replies "yes, DisneyWORLD, there is a massive difference between Disneyland and disneyWORLD. DisneyLAND is in France and it's cheap and nasty, people only go there when they can't afford to go to America. If we do go, we'll be going to the REAL disneyworld in the USA."

dd squeals in delight. Sister looks at her hubby who shakes his head. DH see's this and adds "well come on, Disney Paris is a cheap cunt holiday!".

My mum at this point stands up and busies herself in the kitchen. I am furious. DH knows full well that my sister and her family are going to Paris next year. I ask to have a word in private and in the hallway I ask him what on earth he's playing at and why he's acting so odd. He says I'm over-reacting and he's just trying to liven up the evening. When we go back in DD is telling DN that she's sorry she won't be going to the REAL disneyworld as her parents are cheap. I tell her off and DH shouts "USA" to which DD copies and they both start shouting it. Mum comes back in and complains about the noise and my dad asks me how much DH has drank and suggests we take DD home. First time I've ever been asked to leave my parents house Sad DH still refusing to apologise. AIBU to not let this one drop? he's totally shown me up in front of my family.

Wow. A grown adult male so incensed by the merits of DisneyWORLD vs DisneyLAND that he's driven to use the word 'cunt' in his diatribe.

Sorry OP, my overriding thought on reading your post was that he's clearly shagging your sister and has a desperate need to ut her husband down. No-one could be that bitter about Disneyworld (or was it land?) otherwise.

iarebaboon · 04/11/2011 15:05

Hysterical. I really like the USA! USA! bit

NellyMelba · 04/11/2011 15:32

leave the bastard

starsintheireyes · 04/11/2011 15:54

I agree with slinking and others, it does sound like somethings happened or been said between them, how does he normally get on with them?

zippadeedoodaa · 04/11/2011 16:03

Bollocks

HeidiKat · 04/11/2011 16:11

Ffs why are people so quick to call troll recently, the last two threads I have seen which have descended into this haven't even been that bizarre.

Hullygully · 04/11/2011 16:12

I think Universal Studios is much bette than either.

fluffygal · 04/11/2011 16:31

I haven't read the whole thread so no idea if this is a troll thread or not, but if this is really out of character for him, could he be suffering from a water infection? I care for the elderly and they get regular water infections, and can act completely out of character (swearing, angry, etc).

HitTheRoadJack · 04/11/2011 16:43

Oh that is odd.

He does have a point. Paris is only for people who can't afford the one in the States.

Still unfair to upset your DN over it.

perfumedlife · 04/11/2011 16:48

Shock @ 'Paris is only for people who can't afford the one in the States.'

I took ds to the Paris one in August because we wanted a few days in a stunning cultural city like Paris, taking in the world class museums and eating first rate food (not in Disneyland confines obv)

We didn't do the States because I hate long flights and needing a day to recover from jetlag.

You were joking though I'm sure Wink

HitTheRoadJack · 04/11/2011 16:51

I was indeed joking but it is cheaper.

An 8 hour flight isn't ideal for younger kiddies.

All of Disney is shit whichever you go to imo Grin

Georgimama · 04/11/2011 16:54

If this had happened on EastEnders it would be because the DH had been shagging the SIL and it had just ended acrimoniously.

HalfTermHero · 04/11/2011 16:57

Fucking hell, that is really quite hilarious. Especially given the reserved attitudes the outburst met with. I would find it hard to be angry with dh tbh, the comedy value would have me chuckling too much to scowl properly.

Minus273 · 04/11/2011 16:57

I can't afford the Paris one. Wonder what that says about me.

On a serious note OP probably has more importany things to worry about than MN.

Georgimama · 04/11/2011 16:58

This scenario sort of reminds me of the bit in One Day when Dexter gets pissed and plays Are You There Moriaty with his fiancee's family.

Mandy2003 · 04/11/2011 17:00

How does it go? "Disney - the magic begins the minute you tell them!"

It certainly did - mwahahahaha

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 04/11/2011 17:02

Erm, Disneyland is in the US Hmm as is Disneyworld. Disneyland Paris is in France.

activate · 04/11/2011 17:06

if this is truly uncharacteristic I'd get him to a doctor for a brain scan - significant changes in personality like this can be due to some form of head trauma / tumour / stroke

if it's not truly uncharacteristic then send him to AA

hopefully there's a reason for this otherwise he's just a disgusting tool for swearing like that in front of your parents / young children, being insensitive, cruel and mocking

Bunbaker · 04/11/2011 17:09

Incidentally, the original Disneyland is in Anaheim, California. Everything else is a copy, even Disneyworld in Florida, and the original Universal studios is in Hollywood, not Florida.

HitTheRoadJack · 04/11/2011 17:11

They're still all shit whichever the OP's dh was ranting about.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 04/11/2011 17:14

a) He's shagging your sister. Now, there you go.

b) He lost his job/ is insecure about his financial situation and is trying to big himself up.

Bloodymary · 04/11/2011 17:15

Sounds as tho he forgot to take his medication to me!

perfumedlife · 04/11/2011 17:28

HitTheRoadJack I totally agree with you, it is indeed shit. Ds(7) was unimpressed but loved the Universal Studios park next door. I was just miserable, stoating about in a rainmate craving a decent cup of tea, with central Paris twinkling in the distance just out of reach. Grin

I was just amazed at the amount of adults there with no children! These grown people went there of their own volition Shock

DelGirl · 04/11/2011 17:29

unless he drank a huge amount over the norm and was obviously drunk I would be far more concerned about an underlying health issue seriously or breakdown as someone mentioned earlier. Whichever it is is not great.

MorelliOrRanger · 04/11/2011 17:31

Disgusting language to use in front of little kids.

We plan on taking DD to Paris for the simple reason the weather being similar to what we have here, and the fact it's not too far to travel. It has nothing to do with money.

Your husband needs to apologise for behaving like a knob.
