Sorry I do apologise I can't do the clicky link thing however hard I try. Hmm

Anyway the comments section underneath this story have been full of borderline racist comments. You know, the type that you can't prove they're saying anything racist but it's quite obvious. Some of them have been removed now so I'm guessing some people may have reported the comments. Although the comments have to be vetted before they're printed anyway.

I'm basically trying to say it's awful, poor guy but can't we just view these attackers for the thugs that they are and not bring race into it. I've tried to comment 3 times.
No no, the Daily Mail wont print that, they'd rather print things like
''well obviously the victim wouldn't have seen them in the dark...'' and
''Oh I knew what race these attackers were before I read it''
''even if they were born here they're not British'' etc etc

And yes I hang my head in shame that I even venture on that site...

The Dm reads all comments and there is often upto a 6 hour back log unless you are regular and have a preregistered ID Grin

lovelydogs · 27/10/2011 18:06

You have to be joking? They post those vile comments and not yours?? Even more reason to stay away from in the future I'm afraid.

Bourbonchops · 27/10/2011 18:06

Ahem, that would be me....
It's a busy one and the DM are printing them off within minutes. Blush

OP posts:
tiredemma · 27/10/2011 18:10

I always comment on the DM- but it takes about two hours in general before I see my words on screen!

Bourbonchops · 27/10/2011 18:16

Thanks, NoOnes.
Yeah, the DM do usually take an age to print comments but it's a busy article and they're posting them immediately. Even if they don't post your comment for another few hours, the time under your comment is the correct time you posted.
They seem to have removed more of the racist ones now but I'm shocked they deemed them acceptable in the first place!

OP posts:
Bourbonchops · 27/10/2011 18:18

Oh I know far too much about the workings of the DM! Blush again

OP posts:
troisgarcons · 27/10/2011 18:22

'They took his ring, his necklace and his phone. He could not see the attackers because it was dark. He cannot describe the faces of those who did it.'

The only description Mr Frederic was able to offer police is that he believes all the attackers were black.

I'm not seeing whats racist about that at all. He very well may have seen their hands, if not their faces, and heard their accents.

But if we can't put any physical reporting into media the public would never know for whom the police are looking would they? male/female tall/short, fair/dark, old/young, black/white.

wannaBe · 27/10/2011 18:23

Hmm why are you Blush either you like the dm or you don't - and the fact you read it and know about it is clear indication that you like it. If you feel the need to apologise for it then perhap you need to question why and review your reading choices?

Andrewofgg · 27/10/2011 18:26

You can't touch pitch and not be defiled. And the difference between the DM and pitch is that pitch has a use.

Bourbonchops · 27/10/2011 18:27

Guilty pleasure, wannaBe. Car crash i suppose. So what's your opinion- AIBU?

It was earlier a whole load of comments that had the racist undertones. Also do you not have a problem with people suggesting they knew what race these attackers would be before they even read the article in full?
And sending these people back to their parents or grandparents origin even if they were born here.

OP posts:
SinicalSal · 27/10/2011 18:34

troisgarcons - it's not the article that the op is saying is racist, it's the comments beneath.

ScarahStratton · 27/10/2011 18:35

How do you get a preregistered id? I love a bit of Failbaiting.

Bourbonchops · 27/10/2011 18:36

Thanks Sinical. It's hard to make my point because the sodding DM have removed so many comments now. Although that's a good thing even if a little late I suppose.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/10/2011 19:04

Bourbonchops - for future reference. To put in a clicky link, do two of the opening square brackets ([), paste in the http address and then put two of the closing square brackets (]). If you want to give your link a name, do the first brackets, the paste of the http thing, then one space, whatever title you are giving the link and then the two closing square brackets.

Bourbonchops · 27/10/2011 19:26

Oh I'll give that a go.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2054124/Face-father-left-unrecognisable-gang-robbers-stole-wedding-ring.html

Wonder if that worked.

AKissIsNotAContract · 27/10/2011 19:30

YABU to be surprised that many Daily Mail readers are racist.

Bourbonchops · 27/10/2011 19:30

Woo! Thanks SDTG, I am now slightly less stupid. Grin
Oh and here's another couple of comments from their comment section.

But that's just it.....they AREN'T British. Don't suppose the politically correct Mail (for all its mischief-making) will dare print this.

  • Zoomer, England, 27/10/2011 19:10

''Hasn't multiculturalism enhanced our beautiful country?''

There's nothing in the article to suggest they are not British.

OP posts:
Bourbonchops · 27/10/2011 19:31

I'm starting to realise that now AKiss.

SmethWitchBelle · 27/10/2011 19:36

I block the Daily Mail on my laptop to save my blood pressure. I used to find myself clicking all the time but as someone (the editor I think) allegedly said, every story is written to leave you hating something or someone - not a game I want to play.

DirtyBat · 27/10/2011 19:52

Some of those comments are unbelievable.

It seems only immigrants commit crimes in the UK.

Bourbonchops · 27/10/2011 19:57

I wish, before people use the word 'British', they would learn the difference between jus sanguinis and jus soli. The majority of the REAL British people are decent, courteous, civil people. We ain't perfect, I know......but this sort of stuff is pretty alien to us.

  • Richard, England, 27/10/2011 19:23

The usual suspects......

  • Brian, St.Helens, 27/10/2011 19:33

Poor French man. Sorry to say this, but there are way too many baboons in the UK.

  • Marcus Stein, Stockholm, Sweden, 27/10/2011 19:43

Yes, I know the last comment may not have been meant as a racist slur but I bet you a fiver it was.

OP posts:
DirtyBat · 27/10/2011 20:16

They've declined to print my non-racist comment as well [hhmm]

KoPo · 27/10/2011 20:24

The daily mail like to print the stirring and bile over anything sensible.

DH had the same issue a while ago on one of their articles. I stay away from the bloody paper, but had to listen to DH moan about it

Cathycomehome · 27/10/2011 20:35

I've just made a complaint to them in their feeback box thing, after clicking on your link and reading that pile of racist crap. Won't do any good, but it made me feel marginally better. Can you complain to the PCC if it is comments by readers rather than by the paper?
