of course it's an argument about semantics !

all men are potential rapists

some men are potential rapists

MrGin · 27/10/2011 13:57

still waiting for your answers chibli........

chibi · 27/10/2011 13:58

if my chances of being mugged were as high as they are for being raped, and especially if i were more likely to be mugged in my own home, by someone i knew, the yes i would

with respect to stating all humans are potential muggers, in a discussion about mugging yes i would

It would be regarded as a bizarre statement by my friends if we were discussing the merits of different health care models, but totally appropriate and not offensive in a discussion of mugging. Particularly if it had been framed as 'it isn't possible to tell who a mugger is unt they mug you'.

chibi · 27/10/2011 14:00

i am typing on a phone, ginny soz

SinicalSal · 27/10/2011 14:08

MrGin thanks for the 'condescending' remark, and the '3 minute memory'
which is ironic because you are asking chibi questions that I answered less than 3 minutes ago!
Smile

do you fancy addressing my points? Or just throw around a few more insults...

thanks Fanjo - that's all it is. I don't fancy an argument and have no interest in providing MrGin with entertainment so I'll be off. I said what i wanted to say - can't make it any clearer really.

FanjoForTheMuahahammaries · 27/10/2011 14:09

arguments about semantics, i.e. missing the true meaning of what someone is saying and just arguing about their choice of words, are only used by those who just want a bunfight and an argument by any means necessary IMO.

MrGin · 27/10/2011 14:09

bye then :)

SinicalSal · 27/10/2011 14:11

True enough Fanjo.
Just dying to take offence. But maybe not actually able to grasp interested in the topic?

Bye MrGin

FanjoForTheMuahahammaries · 27/10/2011 14:15

exactly that Sal

MrGin · 27/10/2011 14:15

fanjo. there is a huge difference between saying some men are potential rapists and all men are potential rapists. As a statement of fact.

MrGin · 27/10/2011 14:16

one word can make a big difference.

chibi · 27/10/2011 14:19

Ginny we have thorougly dealt with the all vs some men issue, and the use of 'potential' to indicate 'impossible to verify' rather than 'likely to become'

Do you have any other points?

SinicalSal · 27/10/2011 14:23

I can't resist!

Read it again MrGin. It's been explained often enough. Pay attention.

hows that for condescending?

(It's what you said to Catherine last night, if that shades your views somewhat)

MrGin · 27/10/2011 14:31

yes Sal... after she said this..

'you might like to add it to your vocabularly list for your upcoming GCSE mock exams'

I only respond with snidey comments once they've been levelled at me first. And I've had quite a lot of flack in this thread. One poster openly admited she'd given me the 'fuck off treatment' purely based on false assumption.

SinicalSal · 27/10/2011 14:36

and explained why and apologised directly.

you have admitted upthread that you're not offended, merely argumentative, so I don't know why you're pulling the poor me act now.

MonstrouslyNarkyPuffin · 27/10/2011 14:36

Schroedinger's Rapist

chibi · 27/10/2011 14:43

class

Thanks for posting the link, narkypuffin, it really eloquently expresses everything we have been saying

you should deffo read it ginny

MrGin · 27/10/2011 14:44

Er, I didn't say I wasn't offended. read it again.

In regards to Catherine's posts, I received no apology. This is what she said.

'And finally, you think that me insinuating you are a school age person is insulting? There is nothing wrong with being a school age person. It just means that I think you have a lot to learn about the subject you are discussing.'

So actually it was a compliment. < shrugs >

SinicalSal · 27/10/2011 14:50

'I'm not really that offended....argumentative, yes....I have a bugbear' is what you said.

it was another poster who subjected you to the 'fuck off treatment' and she gave her reasons for being a bit trigger happy and apologised.

This is pointless.

MrGin · 27/10/2011 14:54

Ok, I read it chibli. Nothing objectionable in there. I personally don't hit on strange women, I always cross over the opposite site of the road if at night I see a woman walking on her own etc etc.

I can understand why making an assumption that all the men in the room are potential rapists is sensible, if sad.

But the term ' all men are potential rapists' is in some circumstance stated as fact. This I find offensive. I am not a potential rapist.

MrGin · 27/10/2011 14:56

It is Sal yes. But if you post something incorrect I'm going to correct you.

'I'm not that offended' does not state an absence of offence.

And yes the other poster apologised, but that was not the poster you first bought up in relation to insults. I am only responding to what you are poting here.

MrGin · 27/10/2011 14:56

-posting

chibi · 27/10/2011 14:59

Thing is though, ginny, you might know that you will never ever be a rapist, but i don't, nor can i until you prove it

FanjoForTheMuahahammaries · 27/10/2011 14:59

MrGin just wants to join the FrothingBerserkers clique Wink

MrGin · 27/10/2011 15:01
