To wish parents would put their babies in the car rather than leave them in the trolly whilst they unpack the shopping?

Have just been to Tesco. I was reversing out of my space when I saw in my rear-view mirror that the car immediately to the right of the car I was heading towards had a young child still sat in the trolly. Not only was she still in the trolly but they had the bit that she was in facing out into the road rather than closest to their parked car. I have parking sensors in my car so there was no chance of me hitting the trolly or the child. But I was inching closer and closer. I couldn't wait as I was holding up traffic from both sides. I just kept thinking why don't they get her out and put her in the car but instead they just scowled at me!

Honestly, some parents have no brains!

When I put my son in the car first he'd get out of his seat and fiddle with the handbrake. Keeping a child strapped in the trolley where they're in easy reach isn't always a brainless option!

I'm glad they are older and understand threats warnings now. Life is much easier.

Surely even if they had taken her out of the trolley the trolley would still have been there.

And what stopped you politely asking them to movwe the trolley so you could get out easier?

But surely you wouldn't want to hit the trolley regardless of whether or not there was a child in it. I don't think your arguement holds water

I agree, OP.

I would assume that no one is going to want to reverse into the trolley containing my child, but on the off chance that they didn't see it, were distracted, or whatever, I would always put my child in the car before unloading the trolley.

Perhaps they were expecting people not to reverse into a trolley? Can't see why they would expect that, personally Hmm

I think because they would have to get the child out of the car again and back in the trolley again when they took the trolley back?

Uglymush, but accidents happen.

Maybe in this case, the OP appears to be suggesting she'd have been happy bumping into the trolley if the child had been removed from it, but I think we all know that's not the case. At least I'm assuming it is!

I'd probably put the baby in the car first, but if you search you'll probably find a thread saying that "people who do that have no brains - the car might explode or be stolen with the baby in it"

That doesn't really work does it. If it's not safe you have to wait even if it's holding up traffic.

I used to leave mine in the trolley so I could then take them with me to the trolley park.

TBH, if you can't reverse out of a space without hitting a trolley, you shouldn't be driving.

Of course I wouldn't have backed into the trolley had the child not been there. I just don't understand why you wouldn't remove your child from a busy place with lots of cars as soon as you could. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that a car coming in the direction closest to the back of their car (and their trolley and child) could be shunted up the back by another car (that can't see trolley and child) and the car goes into the trolley.

And there were two of them, both unpacking the shopping so not a case of waiting till the trolley been taken back.

It's not really about leaving babies in trolleys is it? Confused

It's about leaving trolleys sticking out while you pack the car.

Okay, let me be clear. I am not in the habit of hitting trolleys when I reverse. I was not in danger of hitting this trolley and the child. It just struck me as daft not to put your child in the car upon returning to it. You never know what might happen.

I leave my dd in the trolley whilst I load the car, I am usually talking to her. If you hit her it will not because I've done that, it will be because you are too bloody close to my car! Yes, you can wait even if holding up traffic. It's a supermarket carpark not a grand prix track. Nobody gets a prize for roaring away.

Rollergirl1, I completely agree with you. It drives me mad. Tbh, though, all the people who walk behind reversing cars in supermarket carparks irritate me too.

When there are so many hazards anyway, you'd think people would have a bit more common sense and wait for a car to finish it's manoeuvre.

It's not "beyond the realms of possibility" that their car might spontaneously combust with the child inside if you want to start inventing scenarios.

I agree op. In fact I'm sure I read on here some time ago about somebody tragically losing their baby when someone crashed into the trolley in the carpark :(. Since I read that I always put the baby in the car first.

I'll add to that people who let their toddlers stand in the trolley seats. A friend of mine saw a child pitch out head first into the ground. Suffice to say they were clearly seriously hurt.

I would say that the scenario where a car hits a trolley in a supermarket carpark is a hell of a lot likely then the car spontaneously combusting. And you know it.

The issue here is that they didn't move their trolley when you wanted to reverse out of your space and they could perhaps argue that you could have waited to reverse out of your space until they had finished unpacking. Mind you, I was in ikea recently and the people behind me in the car park were taking so long working out how to get their huge flatpacks into their tiny car that I just had to start reversing, cue them moving their trolley and giving me evil stares!

However, I did once turn around from putting a bag of shopping in the boot of my car to see my trolley starting to roll away down the very slight incline in the car park with a very wide eyed DS1 staring at me in alarm from the seat. Thankfully it hadn't got far and I was able to grab it but I always put the child in the car first after that!
