To wonder why on earth so many grown females don't know what they are?

If you identify yourself as a female and you are above the age of 18 then you are a womAn. Not a womEn.

1 woman
Many women.

AIBU to think that women should at least be able to identify themselves correctly?

Ormirian · 24/10/2011 13:13

Does this depend on how many personalities you have?

CailinDana · 24/10/2011 13:13

Sooo many posters ZZZ, too many to mention. It seems to be everywhere at the moment - I even saw it on a health promotion poster at the Doctor's recently. It said something like "If you are a women aged between..." It took me literally days to teach my year 6's the difference between the two words. I couldn't believe they had got to age 11 without learning it. But, it seems that it's actually a weirdly common mistake.

Some men identify themselves as female Ormirian. They're not technically female but prefer to be known as women.

I'm a women. One for each face. Grin

fuzzynavel · 24/10/2011 13:31

Shooo, off to pendants corner Smile

JamieComeHome · 24/10/2011 13:37

fuzzy - I think being able to distinguish the singular from the plural is a bit basic for pedants corner, considering children learn it in infants .....

eurochick · 24/10/2011 13:39

I've never heard anyone do that or seen it on any posters, etc. Maybe you are surrounded by idiots?

CailinDana · 24/10/2011 13:41

I shall not name names but there is an AIBU thread ongoing at the moment with this mistake.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and m Mum sent me to the newsagent for her copy of WOMAN mag. I asked the shopkeeper "Do you have any women please?"

SixStringWidow · 24/10/2011 13:50

I don't feel the need to identify myself tbh, but I have been known to make spelling mistakes and some of my comments have been known to be grammatically incorrect.

No offence like. Hmm

RIZZ0 · 24/10/2011 13:52

Seems like we're not allowed pedantry anymore Sad offends too many womens apparently.

AlpinePony · 24/10/2011 13:52

Don't sweat the small things, some people are just thick.

C.f., Belgium chocolates, Belgium waffles, etc., etc.

MadameCastafiore · 24/10/2011 13:54

I am a LADY!!!!

FFS have you nothing better to worry about????

JamieComeHome · 24/10/2011 13:56

I think making mistakes as individuals is one thing. We all do it occasionally (although I've never mixed up the singular and the plural), but for something to get through several stages of planning, and editing, to be on a poster or a sign, for instance, is a bit poor.

madonnawhore · 24/10/2011 14:02

I'm every woman. It's all in me.

oksonowwhat · 24/10/2011 14:05

I suppose i am a woman....i feel more like a slovenly old geezer most of the time tho, sadly

I actually am a Lady.

BamBam21 · 24/10/2011 14:20

Not sure how this confusion could arise TBH. In my wonderful Fife accent, there is a distinct difference between 1 woman (woo-man) and some women (wimmin).Grin It would sound just bizarre if they were swopped or substituted. Never heard it done myself.Smile

BamBam21 · 24/10/2011 14:21

Ah, is it just with the written word, rather than the spoken? I see.Blush

Takver · 24/10/2011 14:26

I think we should all be wimmin or wombyn myself Grin

(though then I don't know what one of us would be Confused )
