to be annoyed at hubby at 'Wicked' tickets

We didn't manage to go on hols this summer. I would like to take kids to see 'Wicked' in halfterm. Of course I'd love the best seats but on ticketmaster they are £92.50 EACH! Mentioned this to hubby and now he doesn't want to go at all and its too expensive, even the cheaper ones at £62.50. Argh. Does any one have any tips on how to get cheaper but good view tickets. Nothing on ebay. Don't know if dare risk it on the day as we are comin down from the Midlands.

Bloody hell! When I looked they were about £27 quid each for decent seats - do they really need to be the best seats?

We went to the theatre to buy the tickets direct from them and got them on the day (which was a friday so were quite surprised there were any left) at £37 each. Still quite expensive for a group but better than £92.50. However, can understand not wanting to do that just in case it's sold out. Have you tried phoning the theatre?

Please valiumredhead tell me how to get £27 tickets? Are they behind a pillar?! My thoughts are that if we are spending quite a bit of money getting down there I'd rather pay a bit more to have a good view.

Wizard of Oz is so much better and much cheaper than the prices you have quoted. Wicked starts and then finishes and there is nothing memorable in the middle at all. In my experience

I love Wicked, have seen it 5 times.
We always sit in the stalls and all are good seats...not too near the front.
We do not go on holiday so dd and I go the theatre a lot, and I always like a nice seat.
It is expensive. How old are your dcs?

That is an obscene amount of money! £92.50 each?! I'd rather put that towards a holiday next year!

Agree that Wicked is one of the worst musicals I've seen but that's just my opinion.

I do it every time with a success rate of about 50%. Find your cheap, booked seats. Keep an eye on all the seats, clock which ones are still empty. About 5 mins before show is due to start, head to the foyer and look for the most senior looking bod. Be polite, direct, tell them you're a great believer in "If you don't ask, you don't get" ask them for a free upgrade to better seats. They can only say no. I've had fantastic upgrades, memorably at Les Mis. The manager said "Well, you're the only ones asking, they're empty anyway, no odds to me" changed my tickets and accompanied me to (imo) best seats in the house

Children 7 and 10. Penllyn - any tips on ticket buying and seat position? Are the stalls tiered well? Never been to this theatre before.

Any tips for other musicals then? Kids seemed to like Hairspray the movie, but I was bit uncomfortable with subject matter for my 7 and 10 year old girls.

OR just wait til the last moment - look for empty seats and move - I had no idea people went and asked for upgrades!

OP ring the theatre and ask about seating - explain you haven't been there before and you need advice. Just realised the last time I went there was when that musical about trains was on there for years... God, what WAS it called? Express something?..

Yup, agree - Wicked was terrible! I felt it was a huge waste of money to see such a forgettable show.

Take them to see Wizard of Oz instead!

I don't think I could persuade hubby to take a day off work to see The Wizard of Oz. He still hasn't recovered from when I innocently typed in 'find dorothy outfit' on the computer as my daughter was singing 'somewhere over the rainbow' at a partypieces school show. I was very much enlightened on finding dorothy! Didn't tell him the connection between dorothy and Wicked.

At that age maybe something like the lion king if it is still on? I find all musicals creepy, not natural to sing all the time! Oh what about Mary poppies, sund of music, Oliver...they might still be on too.

YABU to want to spend that much on a show!

DD and I loved "Wicked". I usually buy our tickets from Lastminute.com and rarely pay more than £30.00. It's the same show where ever you sit and the Gods can be fun. Often, if you buy cheaper tickets and collect them early you will find you have been upgraded. It's worth clicking on the meal deals too - have sometimes found that the tickets + the two course meal are cheaper than just the tickets!!

Wizard of Oz much better than Wicked IMO.

I am going to take DS to Shrek now Amanda Holden has gone on ML.

I saw Warhorse a couple of months ago and it was amazing. Lots of children in the audience of course who seemed to enjoy it. So a recommendation for that from me. Doesn't need to cost as much as you are talking about.
