to not do partybags?

DS is having a swimming party on Saturday and I have decided not to do party bags.

It's in the evening so no party food as such, but the kids will have a drink and an ice cream at the pool, and some bday cake to take home.

I normally have the courage of my convictions, but have had a few of these >>Hmm when I've mentioned the no party bag thing to other mums.

So, AIBU?

aww,
i am pretty anti party bags - in older children,
but 5 year olds! Shock

even a balloon woudl be better than nothing.

"But it doesn't sound much like a party to me really, a quick swim, sing happy birthday and then home?" - sounds better than the party we went to last year - very little food (some sweets and a cupcake each) and no birthday cake. Cue some very confused guests asking where "tea" was and singing happy brthday around a... well... around nothing.

YANBU, no party bags, fabulous - no sweets at a stupid time to try and remove for DCs, no stupid toys to step on when going to kiss them good night.

As for the food, my DC hardly eats anything at a party as is too busy playing, this is what most parent I know say about their DCs also. Anyone every catered for a party and then had enormous amounts of uneaten food left?

We go to parties to have fun with friends, I have learnt never to expect to be fed, nor to expect not to. Have a snack before hand and something ready for afterwards just in case.

Bucking the trend - I must say that I still love to see how excited my DS is (6 soon) to look through his party bag at teh end of a party. For that reason alone I cannot ditch them though they are a pain in the arse.

Yeah Kewcumber mine love it too! When I throw parties I always do too many party bags just in case, and my dcs love rummaging through them eating the sweets etc for the next week or so!

YANBU about the party bags, usually full of tat (tho kids love them) I always do a little something to take home tho as a thank you for coming.

I think you need to tell everyone that there is no food, and make it clear the adults need to be in the pool (not had to do this at swimming parties before). I have never been to a party for children with no food. Yes they will have prob eaten dinner earlier but will be tired and hungry a hot dog or something would be good maybe.
