I agree Shagmundfreud. The one that still makes me laugh is the childminder (changed later to nanny) who dared give the DC ready made pasta. here There are lots like that which would have given lots of material! Grin

thunderboltsandlightning · 15/10/2011 17:50

You're right it isn't even funny is it smallwhitecat. She's got nothing, so she resorts to misogynistic stereotypes and threats of violence - cue uproarious laughter from certain males in the audience because there's nothing funnier than women being called bitches and thinking about them bleeding.

It's some of the most craven pieces of man-pleasing I've seen in a long time.

noddyholder · 15/10/2011 17:58

The thing is those that are offended may not find something that offends me offensive etc etc. Some comedy is like that near the mark and not for everyone but freedom of speech is like that. I also am offended at the assumption that those who did laugh would not be smart enough to debate the topic of misogyny etc as I am sure many of us could and would in certain situations but sometimes something just makes you laugh even if you know it is wrong otherwise how do you explain Frankie Boyles success?

noddyholder · 15/10/2011 17:59

too many like thats in there will blame the wine!

luvviemum · 15/10/2011 18:00

I think it's really good - a confident performer. I think it could be even better with more in depth observation of mumsnet

flatbellyfella · 15/10/2011 18:01

Very funny , need more.

rycooler · 15/10/2011 18:11

Oh gawd - turn the music down and hide the booze - feminists are in da house.

thunderboltsandlightning · 15/10/2011 18:14

Frankie Boyle appeals to the bigots amongst us. He provides an opening for bigots to express their bigotry in a safe space because they can justify their laughter with "it's comedy, lighten up". Racism, sexism, jokes about disabled people have always been popular with those who believe that one way to feel good is with laughter at other people's expense.

This comedienne appears to be appealing to the pro-misogyny contingent who think it's fine for women to be called bitches and receive threats of violence. In that context what she's saying is indeed hilarious. Actual jokes are pretty much non-existent in her material though.

ja9 · 15/10/2011 18:14

Brilliant, loved it!

AnnetteProfit · 15/10/2011 18:19

i thought it started off really well and was VERY funny - then got stuck a bit in cliche. And just was a bit predictable

exoticfruits · 15/10/2011 18:28

Probably like MN Annette-very predictable. Grin

But... it wasn't very funny, no?

Sort of reminded me of that Yasmin Alibhai-Brown article, which attacked a sort of made-up idea of mumsnet that bears very little relation to the one I'm actually on.

FellatioNelson · 15/10/2011 18:37

I tried hard not to laugh but I hooted in the end. Grin

thunderboltsandlightning · 15/10/2011 18:48

If cutting loose means laughing at myself or other women being called smug complacent bitches, I'll stick to tightly bound thanks LeQueen.

This woman isn't funny. She doens't even have that excuse. She's just nasty.

frownieface · 15/10/2011 18:49

Not funny. Meh.

nooka · 15/10/2011 18:51

I thought it was deeply unpleasant and bore little or no resemblance to mumsnet conversations at all. Yuk

LadyEvilEyes · 15/10/2011 18:56

Ok, it was quite funny for me, not laugh out loud but made me smile.
But I really don't see anything misogynistic about it.
Why do feminists get so worked up about something so utterly harmless.
Surely there are far more causes that you should direct your anger at.
No wonder I never go on the feminist threads here.
Jeez.

exoticfruits · 15/10/2011 19:00

I don't think that she is easily pleased smallwhitecat-people offer up such gems-I just wish that I recorded them at the time! Perhaps you read different threads nooka.

exoticfruits · 15/10/2011 19:01

Competitive mummies have been out in force lately feeding their 2.5yr old DCs olives and sushi in packed lunches. My DCs had a wide range at that age, but I didn't broadcast it.
