AIBU for wanting to delete my fb friend for making me throw up a bit in my mouth

I just logged onto facebook to be faced with a wedding photo of my friend and her dh with the caption "5 years!! What an adventurous time we have had and so much to celebrate. Happy anniversary to my handsome and wonderful husband, ..."

Now I have just celebrated 6 years of happy marriage but if I posted this my dh and most of my friends would disown me. Why do people do this? Is she really that smug and show offish or are they secretly massively unhappy?

I am so tempted to press delete. AIBU?

Oh OP, envy is evil. Why shouldn't she publicly say something nice to her DH. I hate the way some people just can't be happy for others. Not cool.

I think the issue is often "judging others by our own standards". She may genuinely wish to express her happiness and love to the whole world, and isn't meaning to show off. It isn't how I would choose to do it personally, but it may be that it has touched a raw nerve in other people's relationships and that they may simply be jealous.
Sometimes, I think you just have to take these things at face value and not try and read anything sinister into their meaning.

Also bugs me about gushing parents boring the fuck out of me about DC's reading level, spelling test results, parents' evening, school report, homework completed, bowel movement etc etc etc.
Esp as they say "I'm so proud of you" JUST FUCKING SAY IT TO THEIR FACE THEN!

Well dh and I have been together for 10 wonderful years and i'll show off as you put it and my friends would be happy for me - maybe you need new friends. btw you are allowed to be married and happy, and soppy.

The odd mushy moment is forgivable.

Constant mushy, less so.

But still far far better than hearing a fellow woman in pain thanks to a relationship that saps, diminishes and hurts her. And not being able to do a damn thing to help her.

Viva happy couples, even if their Hallmark moments can be a bit sickly for spectators.

YANBU i've seen so many pukey anniversary status updates that on mine I was tempted to post:

"this time last year.. I was shouting at my bridesmaids to make sure the groom and best man didn't forget X,Y and Z and not gazing into the middle distance about soulmates and lifetimes because there were 70 rellies and friends to herd and feed"

seriously who spends their wedding morning peacefully and lovingly gazing at their navel / out across rolling green fields, thinking about the meaning of love and life? who has time for that?

That is exactly the sort of thing one of my best friends would post. She's not smug. She is truly one of the sunniest, happiest people I have ever met and I envy her her endlessly positive outlook on life (which she maintains even after 4 miscarriages this year :(). She would post this sort of thing simply because she wears her heart on her sleeve and loves life.

So yes, YABU. The world has become such a grey and cynical place

I'll be married 13 years next week and I'm proud considering everything we've been through. If people don't like that then you can easily subscribe from a person on fb.

awww, i love seeing posts like that on FB. there aren't enough of them IMO. i know too many people that take up the default position of 'tolerating' their spouse and post things along those lines so it'slike a breath of fresh air to read about two people who are very happy together and not embarassed to say so. it gives me hope.

nahhhhh in real life the majority of the offenders have relationships I'ld never envy
