Apparently its fine "as it has nothing in it" Angry. To make matters worse it was at my little girls Baptism and she promptly spat it out over her baptism dress.

Too bad she didn't spit it out all over the grandmother's dress.
I don't know that I'd be furious, but Shocked and having stern words, deffo.

IneedAbetterNickname · 09/10/2011 18:52

YANBU!!!! Id be fuming too!!! IN fact I was fuming when my Auntie tried to feed my DS1 solids as he was only 4 months and not yet weaned! Coke would have been a million times worse!

troisgarcons · 09/10/2011 18:53

picnicbasketcase · 09/10/2011 18:53

WTAF? My nine and three year olds aren't even allowed coke, let alone a 5 month old. Who the hell does that?

MadameWooOOoovary · 09/10/2011 18:54

Is your Mother a narcissist? Or just dense? Confused

FlipFantasia · 09/10/2011 18:54

Shock YAdefinitelyNBU - I would have completely flipped out!

flybynight · 09/10/2011 18:54

You are totally within your rights to be angry.

Is this an out-of-character thing for your mum to do, though, or is she normally a bit, erm, unpredictable?

mosschops30 · 09/10/2011 18:55

Its not ideal and i dont know what sane adult would do this but its not exactly the worst that could happen is it? Perhaps a little perspective, its just cola not iv heroin

Emsmaman · 09/10/2011 18:55

YANBU

lunaticow · 09/10/2011 19:02

Chill out!

Princessescanclimbtreestoo · 09/10/2011 19:04

God, I'd be furious too.

why on earth would anyone even think to do that?

TeaOneSugar · 09/10/2011 19:05

Why would you do that?

catgirl1976 · 09/10/2011 19:06

Well I wouldnt be happy just on the caffine and small baby front, but no one got hurt. Tell her she is not to give her coke (god knows why you have to but there you go) and move on.

LynetteScavo · 09/10/2011 19:09

I hope you let your DM know what you thought....or in a nother 6 months it she'll be giving her hot toddies to settle her.

EricNorthmansMistress · 09/10/2011 19:09

YANBU!
Coke is full of chemicals and shit and artificial sweeteners. Plus it's fizzy. Small babies do not like fizzy, so she was being unkind as well as stupid.

DogsBeastFiend · 09/10/2011 19:10
  1. How did a 5 month old consume the coke? Did your mother put it in DDs bottle?
  1. It's not the greatest of things to give a child and I wouldn't but she will live regardless. Remember that lots of DC were in my day given sweet tea and the like with no ill effects. Chill a bit. :)

(Yes, I am one of those who gave her children tea when small and they are still alive).

Mimmee · 09/10/2011 19:12
Hmm
ChippingIn · 09/10/2011 19:17

Mimmee - what's with the Hmm is that at the OP or DBF or someone else? Your Hmm clearly needs some direction in life.

SmallZooOwner - I had to go and check that this wasn't your first post because it was so unbelievable!! You do seem generally quite normal though Grin your mother, however, seems completely unhinged? Is she normally -this fucking stupid-- so, um, strange? I would have been really pissed off as well. I mean yes, the tiny bit she consumed will not hurt her one little bit, but it's just the idea that someone would think coke was a suitable drink for a 5 month old baby, I wouldn't even give a 5 month old baby boiled water without checking with the mum that it was OK... coke?? FFS.

SmallZooOwner · 09/10/2011 19:17

My Mom actually called me over to watch as she was proud of the fact my little girl went for it. Five month old babies (or at least mine) go for everything. Already have had "rows" ie I ask her to do or not to do certain stuff with D1 & D2. Apparently I have mental health problems now also as this explains my unreasonable behaviour. Thanks for the comments a lot match my own so I feel less furious now. Off to have a cup of tea & chocolate.
