Went into Primark for first time today. Awful just awful. Full of cheap tat would rather shop at a jumble sale.

it is still common to find jeans with the distressed look and the conditions the people who 'distress' them work in is also appalling, small enclosed areas and their lungs fill up with fabric dust... anything with sequins and beads on is also horrendous,

The whole industry is shocking. The turnover of seasonal clothing is really alarming and whilst much can be recycled, what a sad waste of the hard work for pitiful wages, just to feed a voracious appetite for 'fashion'.

Boden cardigan (bought in the sale) - a bobble fest after 3 wears. Primark jumper bought three years ago and put through the wash many times, not a bobble to be seen. T-shirts wash really well too and I have jeans that are 6 years old and still going.

No one wants their clothes to be made by 6 year olds but I"m not sure that paying £50 rather than £5 ensures that a penny more goes to the person who made it.

I shop twice a year for clothes and try an outlet first, then Primark (as soon as it opens) then work my way up to the dizzy heights of Marks and Next. I've had to give up buying trousers at Next - the zippers never stay up and they may as well be supplied un-hemmed and without the buttons stitched on as this is how they end up after one wear.

Does paying £50 rather than £5 mean a penny more goes to the person who makes it? I some how doubt it

I won't go near anything with sequins, or beading, mine as it really is slave labour that went into that. No matter how much you pay for it.

I bought 5 pairs of pyjama bottoms for £10 from Primark. Unlike the extremely expensive pair I bought they have stood up to normal washing/drying cycles. Expensive pair shrank in first wash (line dried) and are now calf length.

I have 6 skirts from Primark which I wear every summer, they wash and iron beautifully. Two pairs of trousers (from Monsoon and Laura Ashley sale) didn't last the first wear before one hem dropped. The Laura Ashley pair cost me a job, the hem must have fallen just before an interview and I could see the interviewer sneering. I noticed why afterwards.

I adore charity shops, but like Primark, the true gems are a bit rare. For coats I wait for final sales. If my size is left when the final reductions are made I can justify it. I found a Barbour coat in House of Fraser this year reduced from £250 to £75, but if it lasts as long as my old one it's worth every penny. The scarf I bought for a pound from Primark (Cath Kidston type floral) looks gorgeous with it! Smile

I love the sheer diversity of people in my local Primark, the overheard snippets of conversation can sometimes make me smile for days. I suppose Primark isn't for everyone, but nor is Chanel.

5 pairs of Pj bottoms for £10.

What's not to like...

Bought my DS 16 his first mans suit in Primark last week. It actually fits him really well as they cater for tall and thinnish. It was £28 and he looks so smart. He will wear it for the first time on monday for his first interview for a part time after school job.

Both my teenage DCs have the tiger suit onsies (as they call them) and again great value and they love them. DS has worn his to Camden and had lots of people asking to have their photo taken with him.

Squeaky - I am tallish (5'9"") and Primark are too short. So, we can deduce that their clothes are designed for someone between you and me. But who the fuck designs clothes for people who are 5' 4.5"?

I am exactly 5'4.5"!!!!!! erm but can tell you the pjs I bought from Primark are too short. Also the sleeves ride up my arms, not sure if they always have or if it is my extreme washing skills.
Some of their fitted dresses are very oddly fitting too.
