Went into Primark for first time today. Awful just awful. Full of cheap tat would rather shop at a jumble sale.

So go to Primark and buy a coat. I won't judge you or even notice that it is a Primark coat. I just won't shop there myself.
I hate shopping and am prepared to pay extra to shop where the rails are less full and jumble sales like and the clothes are a better cut and will last longer. If you have the time and patience to weed out a decent coat from all the rubbish then go for it.
Please don't take these things personally.

Whenshewasbad - You just made my point for me.

"i... am prepared to pay extra to shop where...."

I don't have the extra.

LottieJenkins · 09/10/2011 08:44

I lurve Primark..............Wilf is growing up so quickly and he loves going in there and choosing his clothes!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 09/10/2011 08:51

Fluffy
I have already said I save money where I can everywhere else and am aware I am lucky to be able to spend more on clothes than some people can.
Just a question are you a happy Primark shopper or would you spend more if you could.
When you have finished your studies and are working I am sure you will have a bit more cash and choice over where you shop.

OP posts:
fluffythevampirestabber · 09/10/2011 08:53

I don't have the money to shop anywhere but the cheap shops. Like I have said a million times.

Yes when I am working I probably will be able to shop other places, and yes ethically I'd like to be able to shop elsewhere but the point is, don't look down on people who go to Primark and be disparaging about their choices when you know nothing about them.

Like every other judgeypants post on here. Sad

troisgarcons · 09/10/2011 08:57

Primark stuff is good value - it lasts forever AND things like t-shirts don't go out of shape with washing (which M&S stuff does)

Actually I could start a thread on what shite M&S is selling now. Hems fall down after one wear, no material in seams, school trousers split in the crotch after one kick of a football .... I really could go on - but I don't Grin

Pagwatch · 09/10/2011 08:57

Fluffy
I am not a 'judgeypants'

You are reading what you chose to into what people are writing. I have apologised for the fact that you seem upset by this thread. But constantly accusing people of saying things they haven't and thinking things they don't is not terribly fair

NoobyNoob · 09/10/2011 08:59

FWIW - and I'm off after this because this thread is slowly annoying me - If I earnt more money, I'd still shop in Primark. I love the stuff they have in there atm, and there's no way I'd spend twice the amount on something I know I could get for cheaper in Primark.

I can't and never have seen the logic in buying expensive clothes. Some of the stuff I've bought from Primark has lasted me years. I think your comment about people being ashamed to wear clothes from Primark in public is pretty pathetic and a pretty massive generalisation. So, YABVU.

beakinthebeeswax · 09/10/2011 09:06

Me and my beloved gran were in the Huddersfield shop last week, it was full of teenagers. It sticks in my throat how the clothes are made, I cant justify child labour if its true.
The place smells cheap.
The clothes reflect the price.
You get what you pay for, my gran says.

LittleMissFlustered · 09/10/2011 09:06

I buy socks in Primark roughly once a fortnight as I am absolutely sure the kids are eating them when they take them off instead of putting them to wash!

LittleMissFlustered · 09/10/2011 09:07

Oh and I don't shop in there for myself as my size isn't catered for. Nothing to do with shameGrin

fluffythevampirestabber · 09/10/2011 09:08

What have I said people have said that they haven't?

Confused

I am hiding this thread now because it's upsetting me and the inference is that if I was better with my money I could shop elsewhere from some posters - that is offensive and has upset me.

And anyone who can tell me how to get a 13 year old into a charity shop find she doesn't like feel free to PM me Hmm. Unless the charity shops where you are are different to here, here they are full of old lady granny clothes, or clothes that came from the cheap shops in the first place and are now washed out worn and tatty. Which I could buy for DD but she wouldn't wear (trust me I've tried been there and done that) so it's a waste of money.

Pagwatch · 09/10/2011 09:12

I have said you should shop there if you like it. That if it is the shop that fits your budget then shop there.

But this is classic aibu where everyone acts as if there are two sides and everyone is on one or the other and they just bludgeon each other.

I have said nothing about you saving better or making your dd go to charity shops.

The thread is individuals talking to each other. Not two groups kicking the shit out of each other.

I am not aware I have been rude to you. You are shouting at me about things others have said

fluffythevampirestabber · 09/10/2011 09:14

Pag - now you're taking what I said personally.

I'm not shouting at you - it's a general comment Confused

laptopdancer · 09/10/2011 09:15

Op I agree. Its hell on earth. I hate primark and cant bear being in the shop. And Im not a clothes snob, I wear supermarket clothes a lot of the time.

Pagwatch · 09/10/2011 09:17

[sigh]

There is a difference between a generalisation and a personal comment.

But you seem determined to argue with every post I have addressed to you, ignore my apology and lump my posts to you with everyone who you feel has attacked your choices.
So I shall withdraw.

fluffythevampirestabber · 09/10/2011 09:18

Pag - I am sorry that you feel I have aimed my posts at you.

That was not my intention and I apologise if my posts have come across like that.

fluffythevampirestabber · 09/10/2011 09:28

And I really am hiding the thread now since I seem to be offending every one Sad

SayGhoulNowSayWitch · 09/10/2011 09:29

PARD!

:o

sheepgomeep · 09/10/2011 09:37

littlemissflustered I dont buy much womens stuff from primark for the same reasons. everytime I go in there the 14 16 and 18 and upward sizes are n on existant. I complained and the shop assistant told me that they dont get much of these sizes on the delivery its all the smaller sizes and she agreed it was ridiculous and I wasnt the first to moan.

I hate the young girls stuff in there, seems to me that most of it emulates womens fashion and looks daft. Dont want to dress my nine year old like a mini hooker thanks very much.

Having said that though I do lurve thier pj's and all that for myself and the kids and my ds loves the jeans, t shirts and so on.

I have a love hate relationship with primark!

lovecat · 09/10/2011 09:47

DD loves the fleece onesie I got her from there. I got myself one thinking it would come in handy for camping but as someone who's 5'5, I found it just that half-inch too small and it cramps my toes.

Our local 3 floor one is a nightmare and I totally relate to what the OP says, however there's one by my mum, who lives in a town frequented largely by pensioners, which is an absolute joy - calm, neat, everything remaining on its hangers, stuff re-folded after examination - I confess I don't go to my local one but wait until I visit mum and then go splurge (on socks, jim-jams and the odd top that gets mistaken for Missoni by my v. fashion-conscious friend)!

The ethical thing is a bugger, though, and I've been trying to cut down on what I spend in there. Agree with whoever suggested Ebay, I've had some marvellous bargains on that (although if you're over a size 12 you have be be wary - stuff that's more than a few years old is not sized the same way and will be way smaller than a current 14+!)

AnyoneButLulu · 09/10/2011 09:50

I've been in a couple of times because I love a bargain, and fancy getting some of the fluffy pjs for DCs. I wander around, spot a couple of useful things, and then I see the queue Shock I do a calculation on how much I value my time and decide I could buy the pjs in GLTC for that (I never do though, I'm too mean frugal).

Same with H&M Brixton, no 2.99 girls frock is worth that queue.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 09/10/2011 10:07

I am fond of Boden but have a limited budget for it. I buy quite a bit from M&S and Next (shoes particularly) but for underwear I've found that Peacocks and (is it) Store 20(?) has a really nice range with plenty of modal and lycra. Just right for me!

My gym bags come from Primark but I bought them from Ebay, the silky holdall type at the height of their popularity. Lovely fabric designs. I don't go into the Primark shop because it is always heaving... it must be incredibly popular.

As far as the 'child worker' policy goes I think that this is something that our Government has to step in to resolve. As long as everything in the UK is 'made in China', it's quite pointless to bang on about child workers in the textile industry.

I'd say, OP, buy what you can afford. Snobbery is prevalent but oh so common and you need pay it no heed.
