AIBU to think that 'Mummy's Room' is a little sexist and dated?

Was shopping with DH and DD this week when we visited a 'Mothercare World' store and I was frustrated to see that the changing facilities had a sign on the door saying 'Mummy's Room'!

I am usually such a laid back person and nothing bothers me but this has. My DH is an incredible dad and is more than happy to change/feed our DD as I am sure many other Dads are out there, but even he agreed that by having a sign on the door saying Mummy's Room it is a bit sexist and very dated. Didn't say anything to the staff in the store but beginning to wonder if I should have, not to complain but just to see if they'd consider changing their signage?! AIBU or just spending to much time and energy worrying about the trivial?!

Why not start at the top and get the name of the company changed too

My DH was really put off by a sign like that when he went shopping with DD. He said he didn't know if there would be feeding cubicles or just open-plan boobs and felt really uncomfortable. He ended up changing DD in the back of the car as he wouldn't go in, and he's really confident!
Change it!!!!

Oh dear, I don't know, I think I'm too old for this thread - since when could men breastfeed. ........And I really liked mothercare back in the day but I know you lot don't but 17 years or so ago the stuff was good quality, reasonably priced and the staff were helpful and you could pretty much always find something you needed. Mind you back then you could only get Fleece in France - it was awfully new and developed for ski-ing

Lorela, surely a confident man could approach a member of staff and check with them..

It's just a name. It's probably an old shop. Stores are having a hard time lately, people spending less, people shopping on internet. The money it would cost to change something like that is just not worth it... plus, there has probably been no complaints...

I appreciate the shop is called mothercare but they could at least update their facilities.

Marriedinwhite thanks for the sarcasm, and no my DH doesn't breastfeed our DD (shock horror we FF our daughter - worst parents ever!) but if he is out with her in public it's nice for him to have somewhere to go and bottle feed her.

At our mothercare they have a mummys room which is for feeding babies and changing them if they need but there are changing facilities in both the ladies and gents toilets.

I always assume the mummys room will be full of boobs and use the toilet changing instead. Never really thought they should change the name of the room though unless they call it the breastfeeding room but where would that leave people who bottle feed?

MummyBuzz but he can use that room! There is nothing stopping him. It's just an outdated name that has never been thought to be replaced. I can guarantee you that no member of mothercare staff would throw him out of such a room!

I remember once I had all my Antenatal class friends at my house when the babies were weeks old. We were all breastfeeding and as we were all new at it, and inside my house, we weren't very discreet. My DH came home walked into the room, didn't know where to look, didn't speak to any of friends and just about turned and walked out! was very funny
