sending a joint birthday card to twins is rude and tight

they're only 1, so they won't know, but still. I'm angry for them. or does anyone think this is ok?

It's fine. They're 1. They don't care at all. The card is to show you that the person is marking their birthdays.

redskyatnight · 30/09/2011 12:39

Well as they are 1 and don't care, I think it is absolutely fine.

dinkystinky · 30/09/2011 12:39

Um, possibly when they're old enough to comprehend they've only been sent one card - but at 1, it really isnt an issue and if when they're older they dont mind, it isnt an issue then either.

DH and I have our birthdays one day apart and we often get one card between the two of us - never been an issue for us.

ViviPru · 30/09/2011 12:39

They're only 1 - you have a lifetime of this particular AIBU. Best to exorcise that anger now.

Catsdontcare · 30/09/2011 12:39

I'm a bit meh about birthday cards at all tbh. They are only one and won't care like you said. maybe the person sending it thought that too.

NiecieTheTerminator · 30/09/2011 12:40

I think it is fine too at their age. Plus if it were me I would be very glad not to have to find room for 2 of everything.

It might matter when they get older but it wouldn't bother me.

grumpypants · 30/09/2011 12:40

are you worried that you won't be able to put the card in both scrapbooks or something? like a baby memory book thing?

snailoon · 30/09/2011 12:40

Birthday cards should be homemade, I think. No one should buy cards unless they find something truly perfect (once in a blue moon).

wilkos · 30/09/2011 12:41

I am not tight but I would probably have sent one card. I really don't see the problem when they are just babies, or toddlers even. Isnt that what most people would do?

So YABU.

Punkatheart · 30/09/2011 12:42

My sister has twins and I always send one card. Good grief - there is more to life to get angry about that that!

MrsRhettButler · 30/09/2011 12:42

I don't often 'do' birthday cards anyway... They mostly get thrown away don't they?

MamaChocoholic · 30/09/2011 12:42

ok, very clear consensus. IABU. better try to learn to let this go.

we have a box for cards rather a scrapbook, but yes, that is part of it grumpy

Snailoon, are you Gwyneth Paltrow? Grin

snailoon · 30/09/2011 12:43

I hate the whole card industry anyway, but that's a different thread.

MrsJRT · 30/09/2011 12:43

Considering cards are a complete waste of money I think YABU.

MamaChocoholic · 30/09/2011 12:44

snalloon homemade cards would have been lovely. this is from ds1's dad, so he could have enlisted ds1's help and they would have been treasured.

Punk. how old are your niece/nephews? do they mind sharing a card?

OP posts:
proudfoot · 30/09/2011 12:45

YABU. I am a twin and it didn't bother me to get the occasional joint card. It is better for the planet anyway to only send one! ;)

So, your ex has sent a birthday card to your twins. But you're annoyed as he sent one and not two?

They are 12 months old. This card is for you, not them.

That said, I would buy 2. To show you that I saw your children as two people. Not 'the twins', who get a joint gift, a joint card, a joint invite to other people's parties... but two people who should be treated as any other two siblings.

angelinterceptor · 30/09/2011 12:47

I think cards a waste of money - so YABU

I have never really thought about the twin issue though - maybe hasn't cropped up in our birthday buying to date

MamaChocoholic · 30/09/2011 12:47

pocket he's not an ex. ds1 has three parents (him, my female dp and me). complicated, sorry.

Kladdkaka · 30/09/2011 12:48

I totally hate cards, be they birthday, Christmas or whatever. They mess with my autistic obsession with order and balance. I read them and then put them straight in the bin. And I never send any.

shesparkles · 30/09/2011 12:48

sorry folks I'm with the OP....but mainly because I have kept my kids' 1st birthday cards (only the 1st though) in their memory boxes....what do you do with twins who get one card-cut it in half?

*can take being told I'm a sentimental muppet
