Why oh why are there so few people out there who use the 'points of elipsis' rule correctly? When you use dot, dot, dot, (...) it is THREE and only three dots, not however many you feel like putting

Like this... Then begin a new sentence with a space
Or...like this (for use in a sentence

Please people, use your dots correctly, it's driving me mad!

I am always using dots incorrectly.......
.......................
.......
.

It's one of those things as an adult I can do that is wrong but I won't get arrested for it................

And it has added benefits of driving people bonkers....
Cos they have to count them to see..
How many I have used...

reelingintheyears · 29/09/2011 14:10

...now you see lol drives lots of peeps bonkers...

StepfordWannabe · 29/09/2011 14:11

Ha! @ pancakeflipper, nice one

Although incorrect use of punctation marks drive me crazy...

nickelbabe · 29/09/2011 14:12

shouldn't this be in pedants' corner?

RhinoKey · 29/09/2011 14:13

The OP seems to have a rage about using three dots, but seems to struggle with the one that should come at the end of every sentence.

scuzy · 29/09/2011 14:13

above and beyond your quota pancakeflipper!

LOL ........ .

wildhairrunning · 29/09/2011 14:14

Bloody iPhone - it's actually ellipsis

iPhone keeps changing it!

Tee2072 · 29/09/2011 14:15

And yet, there is something so compelling in the endless trail of dots isn't there..............

Witherhills · 29/09/2011 14:16

yes yabu, unless I have wandered into another reality
this should not be bothering you
i have never even heard of it
i have a degree in English
i am probably the one that's annoyed you
but i don't care
and yes, I know I am not using capital letters, but I don't care about that either

wildhairrunning · 29/09/2011 14:16

No pancake - it just shows that people can't grasp a basic grammatical rule...

OP posts:
BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 29/09/2011 14:17

Grin at wither trying to rebel by not using capitals, but one snuck in there anyway....

MuthaInsuperior · 29/09/2011 14:18

If that's all you have to worry about, you're a very lucky person OP :)

MinnieBar · 29/09/2011 14:18

If you are on an iphone, here's a tip for correct ellipsis usage - press and hold down the full stop button and voila, the option for an ellipsis will magically appear...

Pancakeflipper · 29/09/2011 14:18

A full stop is a basic grammatical rule... You should look at your original post...

wildhairrunning · 29/09/2011 14:18

You have a degree in English and haven't heard of it?!

Oh dear...

Where did you study? Timbuktoo?!
