to wonder why people say "full fat" coke?

Because it's not. Coke has no more fat in it than Diet Coke or Coke Zero. The difference is that Diet Coke is sugar-free but instead has all the other nasty sweeterners. So if you have to, call it "full sugar" coke or whatever but
FULL FAT coke does not exist. It's one of my pet peeves.....

Grin it's made from girrrrrderrrrrrs

I will have to try it. I will buy a bottle of diet and a bottle of normal and do a Jilly Goolden taste test and report back Grin

LetThereBeRock · 28/09/2011 11:02

She thought that it tasted of wet sheep's wool.

jaggythistle · 28/09/2011 11:02

Irn Bru mmmmmmmmmmm.

I don't really like diet stuff any more.

The 'full fat Coke' slang annoys me for some reason, but being Scottish i call everything juice.

People here will refer to getting a can or tin of juice to mean a fizzy drink.

Ginger must be Weegie thing Grin

BonnyBanks · 28/09/2011 11:04

Yes Aitch I understood your meaning (and am familiar with the genus 'ned') I was just objecting to it slightly... My genteel and terribly middle class grandmother would have been very upset to be called common and she called it ginger all her life....

AgentProvocateur · 28/09/2011 11:05

Just to throw this into the Irn Bru conversation - DS had Fiery Irn Bru yesterday. Said it was disgusting - like Irn bru crossed with ginger beer.

Lots of discussion about whether you'd then ask for ginger ginger...

onehellofaride · 28/09/2011 11:06

I say normal coke and diet coke Grin

BonnyBanks · 28/09/2011 11:07

Well done GetOrf we'll make an honourary Scot of you yet!

AgentP - ginger ginger :) will need to seek it out!

droves · 28/09/2011 11:08

Irn bru , tastes like sugar in a can , with a bit of rust .

It contains ferus ... ...cant stand it , but it does cure hangovers , must be the high sugar content. Drink the stuff and you can actually feel the enamel melting off your teeth !!!

Ginger is glasweigan / west coast thing .

Guadalupe · 28/09/2011 11:09

ha ha at full fat fags Grin

I don't think I have ever heard of juice being used for anything other than the juice of a fruit. If people mean carbonated drinks you often hear 'fizzy' round these parts.

BonnyBanks · 28/09/2011 11:09

Yes Jaggy, it's a weegie thing ... < sigh> there are lots of us you know maybe just not on MN

MrsHuxtable · 28/09/2011 11:10

Bonny, I'm fascinated now. I'm in the Central Belt as well (have been for 6 years), everyone I know here is a "native" Scot and I have never heard that word. I think I'll have to go and investigate this Grin...

Will also buy some Irn Bru today to try and define the taste. It's been years since I had any..

OatcakeCravings · 28/09/2011 11:11

I say fat coke or thin coke.

Also from Scotland but don't say Ginger as am from the East Coast and it isn't said here. Do call everything that isn't tea/coffee/water or milk juice. Why isn't it juice???

Guadalupe · 28/09/2011 11:13

is irn bru like lucozade? I think I used to have it when I was ill.

AitchTwoOh · 28/09/2011 11:14

my genteel and thoroughly working class grandmother would rather have died than call a fizzy drink 'ginger'...

nowadays, it is the sole preserve of the ned unless used in an ironic fashion.

BonnyBanks · 28/09/2011 11:16

Mrs H - Seek out a Glaswegian (you're bound to know at least one) and ask them gor indrpendant verification.

This thread is doing wonders for Irn Bru sales .... Maybe I'll get some commission.

Hey do any of you Scots remember a fizzy drink called Moray Cup? We used it get it on holiday in the highlands when we were wee.... Very sugary!

Must dash now but will 'pop' back later to hear the results of the taste tests!

LetThereBeRock · 28/09/2011 11:17

It's not the sole preserve of the ned! I've been known to say it myself on occasion,as have my,ned free, family.Angry

There's nothing wrong with it!

LetThereBeRock · 28/09/2011 11:17

No,not like Lucozade.

MoChan · 28/09/2011 11:17

It's a joke, isn't it? In my smoky days we used to talk about 'low fat fags' (Silk Cut), and 'full fat coke'. People don't really think there's fat in it, they're just having a joke about it.

Irn Bru is an acquired taste. I acquired it whilst living in Scotland. We all swore by its efficacy as a hangover cure. It has to be the FULL FAT version though.

schroeder · 28/09/2011 11:18

dh is a scot but doesn't say 'ginger' I don't like the word 'pop', but living in Yorkshire these days is does sometimes slip out.

Growing up in East Anglia it was always 'fizzy' but that was from my Nan who grew up in Kirkcaldy. Confused

I hate 'full fat coke' it reminds me of some cow I used to work with who said it all the time-thought she was so funny Hmm.

Also you know full fat milk isn't that fatty anyway only 4% I think, so classed as a low fat product.

Even more Confused

AitchTwoOh · 28/09/2011 11:18

hehehe. it is a ned marker. you can't even pronounce it but in a neddy accent. Grin

MrsHuxtable · 28/09/2011 11:18

Guadalupe, I've never had Lucozade, so I don't know.
It's orange, fizzy and has a very unique taste. I think people say it helps when you are ill. No idea why though... Anyone?

OP posts:
LetThereBeRock · 28/09/2011 11:18

Although like Lucozade it is a vivid orange colour.

BonnyBanks · 28/09/2011 11:19

Aitch - I don't spend enough time with Neds to know but I'll keep happily using the term irony free.

LetThereBeRock · 28/09/2011 11:19

Oh yes I can. I just did!

AitchTwoOh · 28/09/2011 11:19

oh yes i remember that, full fat fags were marlboro red.
