Nothing against SAS but my personal opinion :) I'm biased though

whatsallthehullaballoo · 24/09/2011 21:46

I suppose people may wonder how you can answer the questions?

TrillianAstra · 24/09/2011 21:47

BlowHole · 24/09/2011 21:49

Just wondered why you think you are in a position to answer people's questions? Are you in the military? Or somehow connected with it? Why should I believe you is what I am asking I suppose.

DartsRus · 24/09/2011 21:49

The only answers I could give relate to light blue finance & training, so probably no answers at all then Grin. (As one civvie about to escape via redundancy)

MiseryBusiness · 24/09/2011 21:49

I've not come across anyone making anti military comments.

I think there will be anti war comments but I dont think thats the same thing?

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 21:50

Joined the British Military in 1991, Husband joined in 1989, so any questions I will try and answer.

why do you think most blokes (officers) in the army are from public schools? and are public schools to blame for the army?

my theory is that if they weren't sent away so early they wouldn't feel the need to bond with other boys and form themselves into armies

therefore i blame public schools for all known wars

what do you think? Grin

mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 21:50

Blowhole read my earlier comment I served 12 years, ginger also served a long time and we are both married to military

I do not know any Officers that went to Public Schools. Is that a realistic statistic South?

BlowHole · 24/09/2011 21:52

Thank you I have read it. Cross post.

Sidge · 24/09/2011 21:52

I think there can be quite a vocal antimilitary attitude on MN.

I remember one thread ?last year that had a pervasive attitude that all servicemen and women (referred to collectively as soldiers) were thuggish, thick-as-pigshit bullies whose only role was to kill people.

MiseryBusiness · 24/09/2011 21:53

Shock people have said that?

DartsRus · 24/09/2011 21:53

RAF officers come from all sorts of backgrounds, and there's plenty of female officers too....

mummynoseynora · 24/09/2011 21:53

ohhh time for my rant now... I HATE (and yes blah blah its a strong word) the term 'army brat' ... and I guess I am one.....

what the hell is it supposed to mean? I find it highly offensive... my dad was in the army for 23 years and I have always been extremely proud of the part he played!

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 21:53

southeastastra does that go for the RAF and the Navy too or are you basing that on Sandhurst?

meditrina · 24/09/2011 21:54

SarahStratton: I think it was the totally unprovoked "baby killers" comment which MNHQ refused to delete which gives the latest evidence of anti-military. I don't really want to link anything, as I want the whole sorry thing to lie down and stay dead (try searching the insult).

There are also quite a large proportion of military related threads which carry gratuitously offensive terms and personal attacks. Try boarding school threads or anything to do with cadets. The military does seem to be "fair game", unfortunately - but it was fun watching the knee-jerk reaction of "send in the troops" during the riots.

"Tommy this, and Tommy that" remains all too true.

< po-faced bit over: now - how about an arse answer? >

mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 21:54
