I am completely fucked off with the anti Military stance on this site, So AIBU to be wanting to set the record straight? Ask me a question and Military people and myself will try and answer (within the Official Secrets Act)

Meh, I kind of think the way you worded your OP and the fact you are now referring to people as civilians makes me think you are looking for an arguement.

BlowHole · 24/09/2011 22:12

But the Op said she wanted to answer questions Confused I know what the government would say, was interested to say what op would say. Sorry if not questions she feels she can answer.

mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 22:12

Very well said herbietea

mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 22:13

I meant the post against the killing kids

southeastastra · 24/09/2011 22:14

if we think how much good the military could do if the arseholes in charge suddenly got the humane gene

southeastastra · 24/09/2011 22:14

i blame america

CaptainMartinCrieff · 24/09/2011 22:15

Then word your OP differently...

Something along the lines of...

I am wondering if members of Mumsnet would like to know anything about what I do for a living? I'm a serving ???? who has recently returned from Afghanistan and I invite you to ask me anything you like about the military and/or Afghanistan and I will do my best to answer honestly.

mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 22:15

Misery she means nothing by it, if you are not military then you are a civilian, thats just the way it is

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 22:15

I will answer sensible questions, there are major differences between service and civilian lifestyles, and a lot of myths that go with it. I would like to debunk some myths.

OP posts:
MiseryBusiness · 24/09/2011 22:16

Exactly Captain

southeastastra · 24/09/2011 22:17

god who cares how it's phrased, mn need a right kick up the arse conversation wise

Someonesnotinbed · 24/09/2011 22:17

Sorry, was just posting what I thought the OP wanted to hear.

Stop trying to make out that questioning the war in Afghanistan has something to do with being 'anti-military', OP.

BlowHole · 24/09/2011 22:17

What myths would you like to debunk then?

meditrina · 24/09/2011 22:17

I've found a range of views in the military about the rights and wrongs of any campaign. But if the Government has issued legal orders, then the military will carry them out. I totally agree that you need to look to the politicians for the big questions of "why are we there?" " What do we want to achieve?". "How will we know when we have achieved it?"

MiseryBusiness · 24/09/2011 22:18

I have a very strong military family and I'm married to a bootneck so I know what she means by civilian and I can honestly say no one I know in the military calls people civies outside of work/family/friends who are in the military too

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 22:18

Fair enough CaptainMartinCrieff but I was coming off the back of another thread, apologies for not being quite so eloquent as you but I am of the 'working class'

OP posts:
mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 22:18

But captain surely that goes against all security briefs. She has offered to answer questions because she has knowledge of the area she doesnt need to give her life history. If people want to ask sensible questions they will, it doesnt need to turn into a debate

MiseryBusiness · 24/09/2011 22:19

Personally I dont take offence to people who are anti Afghan or Iraq, I dont see that being anti military.

MiseryBusiness · 24/09/2011 22:20

whats working class got to do with anything?

BlowHole · 24/09/2011 22:20

I can't actually think of any questions that don't relate to the conflict in Afghanistan. What questions would you like to answer?

LtEveDallas · 24/09/2011 22:20

Ginger, whilst I applaude the sentiment, I don't think this was a great idea. There has been an awful lot of anti military and anti Herrick posts on here lately, more than usual, but aside from the 'knowns' (which the Forces Sweetheart girls could probably all name) there are a few namechangers posting the same crap over and over, but looking like new posters each time.

One of them is on here now, a month ago she had a different name, and in Jul yet another. Luckily she makes the same mistakes!

I have an 'issue' with MN at the moment; not deleting a 'child killers' post whilst supposedly supporting the SSAFA Big Brew Up (despite being told how upsetting and infuriating it was) then deleting first a post, then a whole thread after being asked to by a poster for a totally spurrious reason (and I believe said OP was one of the above NCrs) despite the thread on a whole being supportive of the Military, giving a lot of good info, and showing those of us in the Mil that not everyone hates us!

Anyhow, this will prob turn into a bunfight - they generally do...

mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 22:21

Misery I always refer to people as civvies and always have

whatsallthehullaballoo · 24/09/2011 22:23

This thread hasn't really taken off in the intended direction has it op? I think you meant well Smile

I feel that the anti - military posts are few and far between but then perhaps I have been reading the wrong posts??

fivegomadindorset · 24/09/2011 22:24

I hate being called a civilian.
