To respond to fb status about benefits & urine tests?

Today's copy and paste status amongst my acquaintances today implies that all people on benefits should have to take a urine test to show they are alcohol and drug free in order to claim. I'm truly fed up of benefit bashing comments like this from my 'friends' who, when challenged, usually say 'oh we didn't mean you, obviously'. Actually it's people just like me they are referring to. WIBU to challenge a friend on this and ask how they would feel about urine tests to claim CB, for example?

The one that was posted by someone on my Facebook was "written" by a worker on an oil rig (again, having to do random urine tests as part of his job) so I doubt it was written by a soldier, not that it makes a difference anyway.

How many people are really out there getting stoned on benefit money though? I certainly couldn't afford to.

Yep and if all the Military packed their job in, Britain would be a sitting duck!

BlowHole · 24/09/2011 19:22

Why what do you think would happen?

Mentile · 24/09/2011 19:23

I also fail to see how anyone would think urine tests on everyone claiming any kind of benefit would save any money.

C'mon Ginger, you don't really believe that was written by a real soldier, do you? (not only because I have never heard a person from the UK use the term 'benefit cheque'.)

Never met a drunk squaddie, have you?

OP, delete or at least hide their posts. I do that with people who can't punctuate....

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 19:26

Also, if they all packed their jobs in, hundreds of pallets worth of emergency rations would have never made it to Thailand after the tsunami, or New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. And that is FACT, because I was part of the team building pallets for the RAF to fly to these places. The Military doesn't just kill people!

CogitoErgoSometimes · 24/09/2011 19:26

The type of rubbish that some people think it's hilarious to spam round FB is unbelievable really. I think it's the latest version of evolution... it alerts us to the insecure, thoughtless tossers in our midst and gives us chance to exclude them from the gene pool.

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 19:27

If it wasn't written by a Brit it would say 'check'!

CogitoErgoSometimes · 24/09/2011 19:28

If it was written by a Brit it would say 'Giro'....

BlowHole · 24/09/2011 19:29

Ok well it would be nice if they could just do the helping bit and cut out the killing bit. I expect they would prefer it too Smile

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 19:31

They are building schools in Afghan now, I wish the general population were more informed about the military, combat is a tiny proportion of what they do.

WilsonFrickett · 24/09/2011 19:35

like sit around on facebook moaning about benefit claimants who drink and take drugs, you mean Ginger?

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 19:39

Sorry WilsonFrickett, but I am NOT in the Military!

troisgarcons · 24/09/2011 19:41

Mildly amusimg , having lived in and around the military for a very large part of my life, they do like a drink , and they drink hard and fast.

mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 19:43

Doesnt matter if it was written by a soldier or not, the people that defend our country have to do drugs tests, the point is a lot of people work and do drugs, why dont they get tested? And in answer to someones point, yes SOME people on benefits do do drugs just like SOME people who are employed

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 19:43

Then you will know troisgarcons they are not all about killing!

TotemPole · 24/09/2011 19:45

Do people on JSA and IS still get paid via cheque, I thought it was all paid by BACs?

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 19:47

Possibly just a turn of phrase?

mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 19:49

Yer they drink hard and play hard but they also do alot of things that you will never know about unless you have served

OpinionatedMum · 24/09/2011 19:50

tell him he is being an ignorant prick.

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 19:52

mandwa78
Cleaned up after foot and mouth
Stood in for fire fighters when they were on strike
REME built a bridge to reconnect Workington to the rest of the country during the Cumbria floods.........

mandwa78 · 24/09/2011 19:55

But Ginger they are still killers that do nothing for anyone else, I suggest that people research the subject before they slag others off
