TO think going to Disney World with no kids is a bit sad?

I mean, why would you? What would posess an adult couple to go to Disney World on holiday if they had no children? I went WITH kids and that was torturous enough - the KIDS thought it was babyish and corny. I just can't understand why adults would want to make a holiday of it! My cousin and her partner go every year and they always post shit on facebook such as "oo can't wait to see The Mouse next month! ooo can't wait to go on the Aladdin ride!"

When we were there we were waiting in huge queues for rides such as "Jimmy Neurtron" seeing tiny kids getting all hot and bothered alongside adults stood there with a gawping grin on their faces at the prospect of being "next". Saddos!

When I was little my dad would dream about winning the pools and taking us to Disney, and we were all so excited that one day we would go. It was the 70's and that's what lots of people did I think. I was so, so jealous when my friends parents who'd saved for years finally got to go. I really thought it was a magical place.

So I went with my BF when I was 22, and it was brilliant. I can honestly say I loved every minute of it. I wished that my dad could have been there with me, because I know now that if we had ever gone there as a family it would have blown him away.

My DS will be 5 next year and I am planning for my family to go. I cannot wait to see the amazement in his eyes. Sometimes it's just good for the soul to enjoy what's in front of you, rather than question it's meaning, politics and all the other negatives.

It's just FUN.

The new Rock It coaster in Universal is fab too. It goes up entirely vertical ly to start with.

thats what we did flatbelly stayed at the BestWestern on International, and as we went Late August 2004 were caught up in the hurricanes. We used the Ihop and also the hotel bus service to and from the parks.

Hulababy · 24/09/2011 15:53

DH was very sceptical before our first trip and only went as I persuaded him to go, along with my parents, brother and sister. But he was won over the first day. One look at DD's beaming face sold it to him. hence returning three times since.

We do have other types of holidays other years and at other times of the year too.

susiedaisy · 24/09/2011 15:55

bluddy eh?

southeastastra · 24/09/2011 15:55

i agree with the op too Grin

pigletmania · 24/09/2011 15:56

awww thats lovely hula [smile* I love Disney Florida, apparently the Paris one is not that good. Dh would not let me get Minny mouse ears to wear Sad. When I went to Disney Florida its like I was a kid again, loved Cinderella castle but was a bit disappointed when my dh said that it was not real and made out of fiberglass

silverfrog · 24/09/2011 15:57

also (and I know this is not directly related to the OP, but it is the reason we will be spending a lot of holidays at Disney over the next god knows how many years) - it is a fab holiday for anyone with additional needs (obviously if crowds/rides are tolerated)

everything just works.

nothing is too much trouble.

if something doesn't work, it gets out right.

everybody helps, and no one bats an eyelid, even if your child is trying ot lie down in the path of the parade.

it was the most hassle free holiday I have ever had with dd1 - not least because for the first time ever, we could book into any restaurant, or even rock up at any fast food place, and have her multiple food allergies catered for. if there was nothing on th emenu, thy cooked something form fresh. every recipe (it seemed) could be altered, or have an alternative substituted. and all at no trouble.

it was bloody marvellous, tbh, and even if I hated the Mouse (I don't, but am mostly ambivalent, tbh) I would be back again and again - you cannot buy that kind of service and attention to detail (for additional needs) in many places around the world, let me tell you.

pigletmania · 24/09/2011 15:57

I think that everyone here should descend upon the op house wearing Micky/Minnie mouse ears with Disney printed t shirts Grin

CinnamonPretzel · 24/09/2011 15:59

mutha WOW , you don't like Tom & Jerry? Shock What DO you like? Hmm

silverfrog · 24/09/2011 16:00

oh, and also - seeing dd1 with the princesses was amazing. they obviously have a script about hanging about and waiting for a prince or some nonsense. but dd1 was oblivious, and chatted nonsense to them all.

they were wonderful with her, spent ages talking to her (even when she didn't make sense) and were so patient. doing that kind of crappy job, in the sweltering heat, with loads of kids (and adults!) pawing at you all day long can't be easy, but they were all lovely.

Thumbwitch · 24/09/2011 16:00

bluddy, I know what you mean - but that's where you get to go "YABU you judgy caaaah". Grin

I've only ever been to Disney World in Florida as a childless couple. It's awesome! Magic Kingdom is admittedly more for little kiddies (so I only went once). I always thought Disneyland in Paris was much like the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, so I would probably not go until I had little uns.

Frankly I wouldn't take children to the other Orlando parks until they were at least ten, it's just too knackering before then and there are height restrictions on all the best rides.

Hulababy · 24/09/2011 16:04

We have been to DLP too 4 or 5 times but for just a couple of days or so each time and as part of other french holidays. It is fine. It is like Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios and has very similar rides and the DLP layout is very similar to MG but a little smaller. But the weather is less pleasant on the whole and it is far far busier ime.

ForYourDreamsAreChina · 24/09/2011 16:05

(and I speak as someone who would rather go to a Michael Ball concert followed by being in the audience of a Noel Edmonds show than go to any form of Disney)

There is just so much judging because-I-can around. People must lead really bitter little lives.

Hulababy · 24/09/2011 16:05

SpamMarie - DD has been to all the parks at 2y, 4y, 7y ad 9y and has never struggled with getting too tired. Even at 2y she was doing full days every day and never wanted to stop! This year at 9y she was tall enough for all rides bar two at Universal, but could go on every Disney ride.

Malificence · 24/09/2011 16:06

We are on the standard dining plan , last time we were on the Quick service plan and that was fantastic.

Preliminary plans are

The Plaza - lunch
50's prime time cafe - lunch
Coral reef - lunch
Tusker house - lunch

Rose and crown - evening meal
Planet Hollywood - "
Wolfgang puck - "
Big river grille - "
Grand floridian cafe - "
Turf club lounge - "
Le cellier - "
Teppan edo -"

Our favourite QS places are Earl of sandwich and Yakitori house. Smile
Fave place to eat at Universal is Bubba Gump.

DH keeps asking what happens if we deviate from "ze list" , I've informed him that it is not an option. Wink

CinnamonPretzel · 24/09/2011 16:07

silver exactly what we love about it :o Roll on Aug2012!

puffin84 · 24/09/2011 16:07

I have been pre kids and loved in. Not Disney so much but Busch gardens. Sea world and Universal.
Had a brill time. Now we have children we can't afford to go back.

Malificence · 24/09/2011 16:12

Silver - Are you a Dibber ?

I am , out and proud, nearly got my gold ears. Smile

silverfrog · 24/09/2011 16:13

we were on standard (I htink - is that one sit down meal, one counter service, and 2 snacks per day? we had somehting like that, I reckon. we had loads left at the end of it all - luckily we had another weeks holiday, so cashed it all in for fresh fruit and drinks on our last day and took it with us to our next apartemnt Grin)

Coral reef is fab. the girls loved it.
Tusker house also excellent - we did character breakfast for dd2, as it's the only place you can see Daisy Duck close up without queuing.

Grand Floridian I wouldn't go back to. the food was ace, admittedly. but it was overly poncey, and was the only place where, imo, the staff were bordering on rude (a bit up themselves, tbh)

our list was character-meal heavy, for the dds - much easier than queuing everywhere. so most of our sit down meals went on that. QS-wise, we had a lovely lunch at Caribbean Beach resort - fantastic burgers (although you can get those anywhere!, but they were really worth it)

GwendolineMaryLacey · 24/09/2011 16:13

Jesus Chris Bluddy. You might as well shut down MN then because the whole place is founded on people not agreeing with each other, whether it's Disney or nappies. It's what discussion is all about.
