TO think going to Disney World with no kids is a bit sad?

I mean, why would you? What would posess an adult couple to go to Disney World on holiday if they had no children? I went WITH kids and that was torturous enough - the KIDS thought it was babyish and corny. I just can't understand why adults would want to make a holiday of it! My cousin and her partner go every year and they always post shit on facebook such as "oo can't wait to see The Mouse next month! ooo can't wait to go on the Aladdin ride!"

When we were there we were waiting in huge queues for rides such as "Jimmy Neurtron" seeing tiny kids getting all hot and bothered alongside adults stood there with a gawping grin on their faces at the prospect of being "next". Saddos!

PS we queued like everyone else. :o

GingerWrath · 24/09/2011 14:40

Unfortunately, not everyone can queue like us Brits!

We were stood waiting for the toilets with DD stood next to me, a middle aged woman came from behind us, put her hands on my DD's shoulders, without a word, and shoved her away from me! A simple excuse moi would have been more than sufficient for my DD to move out of her way!

Slightly off topic, at an Easter Egg hunt this year in I witnessed a grown man sprint in front of me to get to an egg, covered it with his foot until his dc got to it. I didn't lower myself to engage in a fight, verbal or otherwise.

WaftedHereFromParadise · 24/09/2011 14:45

Yanbu. It does seem a bit strange to me too. Especially when they wear the Disney clothing.

DoubleDegreeStudent · 24/09/2011 14:45

I've been to Paris with a few friends (we're in our twenties) and it was probably the most fun it will ever be. Young enough to justify being a bit overexited, but old enough to appreciate the ridiculousness of it all. What I noticed was that Disneyland Paris seems to be mainly about the parents. Half the children there were less excited than me, yet were standing having photos taken by manically grinning parents.

DoubleDegreeStudent · 24/09/2011 14:49

Wafted when I was there it was nearly Halloween and there was a grown man wearing a Disneyworld Tokyo Halloween hat. It had 2010 stitched onto it, so it was clearly a) a "collectible" and b) no more than 1 month old. Which meant he had been to at least 2 Disneylands in the space of a month. Without children. And he collected the outfits. Confused

Took our two girls for Thanksgiving in '90 and '92. Then for Christmas in '94. That was probably the best Christmas I have ever, EVER, had. No family descending on us, weather was great and we had fun going to ToysRus and getting the girls some presents to open on Christmas morning. Even managed to get a little tree.

Sitting in Magic Kingdom midday Christmas day eating turkey drumsticks and wearing shorts and a T-shirt while everyone was freezing at home....

MuthaInsuperior · 24/09/2011 14:55

I'd love to spend Christmas in New York Grin It's on my bucket list lol

I have never, and will never go to Disneyland.
Just not my thing. I don't like rides, or queueing,or hordes of people and find Disney all a bit crass.
However lots of my friends do and love it.....just as I like health spas and they don't.
I do think having your photo taken with Goofy (when you have no dcs and are 47) a bit odd, as my SiL did. And it is on their tv.

WaftedHereFromParadise · 24/09/2011 15:03

Grin It's just so....odd. And middle aged women in Winnie the Pooh topsConfused.

I wonder if such people visit Father Christmas too. Sit on his knee in Hamleys and ask for a Tigger t shirt maybe...Wink

I liked being at Disney with my dc, but it would never occur to me to go without a child in tow.

MrsBuntyCuldeSacEnigma · 24/09/2011 15:03

That's just not right, MrsDuvall.

LynetteScavo · 24/09/2011 15:03

I wouldn't want to go to Whitby or Disney. Having said that, I did go to Disney twice before having DC. Too much time and money on my hands.

I do think the whole adults into Disney thing is a bit...well...weird. I have a friend who's really into Disney. Last time I was at her house I noticed she even has Disney cutlery. Thankfully she keeps her passion to herself and doesn't bang on about it. Probably because she knows I will look at her like this. Hmm

LynetteScavo · 24/09/2011 15:05

ineedabodytransplant -ToysRus and Disney? My idea of hell! Grin

Glad you enjoyed it. Each to his own!

squeakytoy · 24/09/2011 15:06

Yeah, I must be really sad, because as I never got a chance to go when I was a kid, despite loving disney movies, and as I have been unfortunate enough to be unable to have kids of my own, that when I got the chance to go to Disney in California, well, I just decided to be a sad bitch and go, without any kids...

Hmm I really dont give a shit though who thinks I am "sad"... I had a fecking brilliant time there.. Grin

Malificence · 24/09/2011 15:06

I would go to Orlando every single year, just me and DH, we both love it.
We went and stayed onsite, at Port Orleans resort this time 2 years ago., it was fab.
We are taking DD and her Boyfriend next year (she's 21) at her insistence, staying onsite again with free dining, can't wait. Smile
We do normal holidays too, we went to China this summer, which was fab, we've been to Mexico, Egypt, Las Vegas, New York, Cuba in the past 5 years and loved them all, however, there is a special place in my heart for Orlando and I am giddy with excitement at the prospect of buying a Harry Potter wand from Universal studios, giddy I tell you Grin.
I can show you my colour coded Trip planner if you like.

MrsBuntyCuldeSacEnigma · 24/09/2011 15:07

I'm always surprised there is a market for nighties like this for grown women:

MrsBuntyCuldeSacEnigma · 24/09/2011 15:09

MuthaInsuperior · 24/09/2011 15:09

Oh Bunty I know the type you mean. Someone bought me some teddy pyjamas as a joke once. I wore them one night and my then partner thought I'd gone mad.
Why?!

One christmas I had to spend with my mum and step father and the saddo had bloody Tom and Jerry on the tv ALL DAY. He was laughing like a loon at it - it's a bunch of drawings projecting two pretend animals finding various (but lets be honest, tedious) ways to hurt each other. It really isn't funny.

I've not spent a christmas there since. Even the kids were bored and asking if the TV was really going to be on ALL DAY.

Malificence · 24/09/2011 15:14

Don't say it unless you really mean it Grin

I am in the process of deciding where to book our sit down meals, they can be booked in December , a full 180 days before we travel, yes it's that mental!

So, I've worked out (with the help of the Touring plans website) which park we will be in on any given day ( the park with the lowest predicted crowds)
Shopping is factored into the equation too - I'm in my element! Smile.

squeakytoy · 24/09/2011 15:15

I dont see any problem with a nightie that has a cute picture on it Bunty... I am 42 and not quite ready for ankle length wincyette or thermals from damart just yet.. Grin, nor do I want to slouch around the house after a bath in an Ann Summers negligee either!

Fluffy pj's and nightwear with cute stuff on are my winter comforts.. I love them. :)

Groovee · 24/09/2011 15:15

We went to Disney Florida for our honeymoon and had a ball. We had a lovely time, shopping, we love theme parks and it was pretty quiet time of year. Ironically I went to Whitby this summer and was totally bored and it was full of school groups and old people on coach trips.
