TO think going to Disney World with no kids is a bit sad?

I mean, why would you? What would posess an adult couple to go to Disney World on holiday if they had no children? I went WITH kids and that was torturous enough - the KIDS thought it was babyish and corny. I just can't understand why adults would want to make a holiday of it! My cousin and her partner go every year and they always post shit on facebook such as "oo can't wait to see The Mouse next month! ooo can't wait to go on the Aladdin ride!"

When we were there we were waiting in huge queues for rides such as "Jimmy Neurtron" seeing tiny kids getting all hot and bothered alongside adults stood there with a gawping grin on their faces at the prospect of being "next". Saddos!

I don't think YABU for not liking it yourself.

YABU for mocking those that do.

I don't like the expression "sad" so I guess you lost me quite early on anyway! Grin

But...it is very hot there,so if that is fueling your distain ...all is forgiven!

Ineed - yeah we ventured into the "real" orlando and admittidly it was rather scary so we headed back to the comforts and safety of international drive Grin

YABU. I have always thought this a VERY strange thing to do. I wouldn't expect to see childless adults piling in at soft play or at an adventure playground, let alone spending the vastly inflated amount that Disney costs to go there rather than on any other kind of foreign holiday. It makes me wonder if they are the sort of people who use baby voices at 'intimate' moments.

You know what else I don't get? Disney cruises. Who would do that? Confused

Springyknickersohnovicars · 24/09/2011 14:20

The best time to go is between Thanksgiving and Christmas, no queues at all even on the most popular rides and it's about mid 70's just about hot enough to do the water parks on some day but colder in the evening.

Loves walking around the corner meeting the "Blues Brothers" and dancing up the street with them, can't remember which park that was now.

Now I've got a child I can't afford to go!

Falls on the floor kicking feet and sobbing really really hard.

HeidiKat · 24/09/2011 14:21

Me and DH went to disneyworld on our own before we had DD and loved it, I'm glad we did it to have the experience of going and being able to do what we wanted without being dragged into every giftshop and having to stop endlessly to let the kids rest. I don't give a shiny shite if anyone judges me for my choice of holiday, I would choose disneyworld any day over backpacking round South America or a week camping in the UK but I accept that other people enjoy those things.

Springyknickersohnovicars · 24/09/2011 14:21

Mutha - have you never seen the crocs in International Drive. Shudders. Think it was I drive anyway. off to google.

MuthaInsuperior · 24/09/2011 14:22

WellWisher - exactly, you wouldn't pay to go into a soft play centre with your partner in order to play amongst the kiddies so why go to Disney? Its the same thing.

Jeez - when my kids have left home I can't wait to go on adult holidays!

Springy, you mean the poor buggers that are kept as entertainment? "Feed the Alli's for $10" types? yeah - I had to control myself which was very hard to do.

Didn't get to see any wild ones though which is a shame!

MrsBuntyCuldeSacEnigma · 24/09/2011 14:25

Well I'm going to buck the trend and agree with you OP, YANBU, indeed they are saddos. Sadder still, adults in disney clothing .

Springyknickersohnovicars · 24/09/2011 14:26

No I was more thinking of the wild ones getting into pools in Florida, read about it a few years ago it was near Disney but not sure if it was I drive now, can't find it on google.

MuthaInsuperior · 24/09/2011 14:26

Oh MrsBunty, when we went Witch bought herself a micky mouse t-shirt which was mortifying enough but then actually wore it around Orlando AND wears it around Hull. Christ on a bike!

MuthaInsuperior · 24/09/2011 14:28

Ah Springy no, I was quite excited when I saw the signs up around the lakes though perhaps im the saddo

Wild (and free) animals are the type I love to see! :)

YANBU, We took DD to DLP for her 5th birthday and was very pissed off every time a grown adult elbowed mine and other peoples poor kids out of the way to get their picture taken with a 'princess'

Likewise I was VERY annoyed at lone adults getting on rides obviously aimed at young kids, and taking up cars/teacups that would have held 4 kids who are then still stuck in the 45 minute queue.

Seriously, I witnessed a lone middle aged woman, get on the Dumbo ride (could have fit 2 kids in), then proceeded to get a book out, read it while the ride was in motion, then calmly strolled off by herself!

MuthaInsuperior · 24/09/2011 14:30

omg Ginger, that IS sad.

I feel the same about the queues. You have 3 and 4 year old kids, struggling with standing in the heat for so long and then some 30 year old grinning idiot in a micky mouse baseball cap comes barging his way to the front and takes up a carriage which would have held a family of 4.

my ex-passive-agressive-nasty-bully-weirdy-fraek-boss was into disney and wore mouse ties and stuff. made him even more repulsive and horrible than without.

thesortinghat · 24/09/2011 14:32

yabu

dh and I went for our honeymoon and loved it, would love to take the dc but can't afford it. We stuck to the older rides and it was great to be able to wander around child-free and enjoy the experience.

Different horses for different courses and all that.

Thumbwitch · 24/09/2011 14:33

Well. I think YABU to be so judgy about what other people enjoy, even if you don't like it. I can't understand why anyone would want to go to Centreparc, it's the last thing I'd like to do - but some people must like it or it wouldn't survive.

I went to EuroDisney (or whatever the hell it's called now) years ago with my then BF as part of a big France holiday. It was one day and I was fulfilling a childhood dream to go to Disneyland (or DisneyWorld, didn't really care). It was rather magical, especially the Light Parade and we had a great time - but my BF had been a bit of a killjoy like you and couldn't see the fun. He changed his mind when we got there and enjoyed it though - probably precisely because we didn't have any small children with us whinging about the queues/needing the loo/being hungry/ being tired etc. etc.

In the end, there's nothing wrong with holding onto a bit of our childlike ability to be pleased with magical stuff, IMO.

(No I did not get my photo taken with any of the characters - no need for that, I feel - as an adult you know it's just a person in a costume)

MrsBuntyCuldeSacEnigma · 24/09/2011 14:33

This is all part of the problem, I have seen grown adults push in front of children in queues at theme parks on more than one occasion.
And in support of you OP, I fail to see how you expressing your opinion on lone adults at theme parks would make you jealous Confused. How does that work?

GeorgeEliot · 24/09/2011 14:34

Disneyland/world is an amazing cultural experience.

Not to everyone's taste - but it would be boring if we all liked the same things.

I went when I was 18 (on gap year) so an adult and enjoyed it just as much as when I went back 30 years later with my dh and dc.

YABVU.

Thumbwitch · 24/09/2011 14:35

xposts - who lets the idiots barge children out of the way and queue jump? That shouldn't be allowed. Angry

thetasigmamum · 24/09/2011 14:36

Forget Disney. Who would willingly got to Whitby???????

Voidka · 24/09/2011 14:36

I went BC and it was brilliant. The atmosphere was amazing.
Though I am not a nosy, judgy snob so I was open to enjoying it, unlike you OP.

MuthaInsuperior · 24/09/2011 14:37

I'm obviously suppressing some urgent desire to go back and lose the will to live again Grin
