TO think going to Disney World with no kids is a bit sad?

I mean, why would you? What would posess an adult couple to go to Disney World on holiday if they had no children? I went WITH kids and that was torturous enough - the KIDS thought it was babyish and corny. I just can't understand why adults would want to make a holiday of it! My cousin and her partner go every year and they always post shit on facebook such as "oo can't wait to see The Mouse next month! ooo can't wait to go on the Aladdin ride!"

When we were there we were waiting in huge queues for rides such as "Jimmy Neurtron" seeing tiny kids getting all hot and bothered alongside adults stood there with a gawping grin on their faces at the prospect of being "next". Saddos!

I would go without kids in a heart beat, been before with kids and they slow you downGrin the rides are fab, and many are educational, the sun is lush, swimming pool is great, food is simple and cheesy but cheap, and there is sooo much more to do in and around that area other than just rides, love itGrinGrin but sadly now as a lone parent it's all going to be bit a distance memory Sad

Oops sorry pressed post too soon in my haste to link to this. Scroll down and marvel at the adult Minnie Mouse dress. Gosh.

I went to Disneyland in California with my mother and I LOVED it and although we were with a small child at the time, we would happily go again on our own or I would with DH.

See, I didn't have what most people would call a normal childhood, despite my mother's best efforts and so, when I was old enough, I made a concious decision to intersperse my adult life with bits of a childhood I made myself so that I would stop wondering 'what if' all the time.

If that makes me a sad git, then so be it. I really don't care what anyone thinks of me for it. Oh and yes, I would run and bounce around like Tigger on crack regardless of being without children due to the sheer excitement of being in a place where being silly isn't that out of place.

My 56 year old mother who went with me to California had just as much fun in the Haunted Mansion as I did, and REALLY wants to go back and do the bits we missed last time. She thinks anyone who can't see the magic in Disneyland obviously looks for the bad in life and needs to lighten up.

So all in all, I think YABU.

perfect school run dress

Cocoflower · 24/09/2011 15:21

This is thread is making me want to go to disney world again... (for the 5th time)!

HPonEverything · 24/09/2011 15:22

Maybe they can't have or don't want children but quite fancy going to see what it's about?

Some people just love Disney don't they. I don't get it myself, but each to their own. I wouldn't mind the other stuff like the space station and maybe some of the rides (Harry Potter looks good) but all the Goofy/Mickey/Dumbo stuff bleugh no thanks.

An acquaintance of mine actually eloped and had a Disney wedding in Orlando or wherever it is - her 'bridesmaids' were Minnie and Mickey Mouse. I kid you not.

limitedperiodonly · 24/09/2011 15:23

Oh, I'm sad then.

I was on a work trip to LA and six of us got free passes to the Universal park.

It was slightly embarrassing being ushered to the front of the enormous queues but we learned to stare fixedly ahead and ignore the tutting.

The tutting got worse when we were riding the huge escalator that links the upper and lower parts of the park.

It's lined with posters from Universal films down the years and my friend was an absolute genius at instantly making up porn names for the film titles.

Other people didn't find him quite so amusing.

I've also done Disneyland Paris for work too. Don't think I'd have found it quite so much fun if I'd had to queue.

MuthaInsuperior · 24/09/2011 15:24

Susiedaisy - I went as a single parent. Where there's a will, there's a way :)

Dear God, Wafted, that's horrendous. I might get one to be worn for the school run, though, to make life a bit more interesting.

Thumbwitch · 24/09/2011 15:28

Mutha, can I just ask - did you think Chicken Run was just a ridiculous bunch of plasticine?
I went to see that at the cinema with my then lodger and his best mate, both 20. Lodger and I came out of it laughing our heads off, his best mate was all "I can't believe I've just watched moving plasticine for 1.5 hours". We were a touch open-mouthed, but just waited until we'd dropped him off before we had a good laugh about what a great film it was.

Just interested to see if you were the same as lodger's friend.

pigletmania · 24/09/2011 15:28

Erm when Dh and I got married we went to Disneyworld for our honeymoon it was fantastic, no moany kids whining and we were free to do as we please, no moaning for the queue.

Hulababy · 24/09/2011 15:36

How did Disney spoil Orlando? There wasn't much there beforehand lets face it. Wasn't it mainly swamp?

BastardDog · 24/09/2011 15:40

Oh dear. Blush have just read this thread and have to confess Blush I have been to Disney Florida and Disney Paris pre children. Blush I have a Mickey and Minnie night dress Blush and a photo of me with Winnie the pooh (dressed up human I realise). Blush oh dear, oh dear. I had no idea I was such a bad and sad individual.

pigletmania · 24/09/2011 15:43

yes we went to Disney Florida without kids and it was great. We also went to pleasure Island too.

Hulababy · 24/09/2011 15:44

Malificence - Wizarding World of HP is fantastic; they have really gone to town on it and done it amazing well. the attention to detail is wonderful. 9y DD had been so excited beforehand that I was concerned it wouldn't hold up to her expectations - but it did and was so much more. The new Hogwarts ride is amazing. DD loved just being there, going in the shops, through the castle, and seeing it all. We tried butterbeer and pumpkin juice, ate in the three broomsticks, etc. DD was in her element.

She did get her Olivander wand too - and even better she was the child chosen in olivanders to have the wand chose her. She was mesmorised and it truely made her holiday complete - and that was only the very first morning!

pigletmania · 24/09/2011 15:44

oh dear MrsBunty though I love Disney, not that kind of thing. I will leave that to dd Grin

silverfrog · 24/09/2011 15:45

Malificence - what dining plan are you on? be warned, you will have loads of credits left over.

where are you htinking of eating ?

pigletmania · 24/09/2011 15:45

OOOOh hulababy I wanna go I wanna go. Where is it? Is it Disney Florida?

Hulababy · 24/09/2011 15:48

It's part of Universal, in Orlando. It's in the Islands of Adventure park.

flatbellyfella · 24/09/2011 15:48

I have been 4 times and loved every moment there, twice with children & twice without ,there are great deals to be had.last time was 4 years ago & I got flight bed& breakfast in hotel on international drive for 14 days & 5 park tickets for £800 each for 2 adults we used the public bus service to & from the parks around $4 return each day.

CinnamonPretzel · 24/09/2011 15:49

Oh dear, I'm a HUGE Disney fan Blush - stems from my childhood.

I went 4 time as a child and as soon as we had kids had the excuse to go again. We've been 4 times since - but DS also has SN and it gives confidence for a fun filled holiday. We know what we can or can't do, what they do and don't like, what works best.

I/We love it and DH until recently swore we are never going back. Obv DSs needs have swayed that decision, much to my joy :o

Hulababy · 24/09/2011 15:49

Lots of WW of HP picks on my FB page :)

Just printed loads of in b&w as decorating DD's bedroom ths week and she is having a film studio loose theme with a film strip border effect full of HP pictures.

pigletmania · 24/09/2011 15:50

If I wasent pg with dc2 we would go. Will have to do it next year or the year after. We plan to take dd 4.5 to Disney/Universal. I love Universal, at the time of our honeymoon was the Twister ride, and Marvel comic rides too as well as a Shrek experience which was really good.

tothemoonandback · 24/09/2011 15:51

I agree completely 100% with the OP.
