To phone the police about my neighbour?

He lives directly opposite me and we haven't seen him for about 10 days. His curtains have not moved and his car hasnt moved either.

He is in his late 50's and lives alone. He is also a real loner so he doesn't have any friends that I know of that I can ask. Infact in the 10 years I have lived here I have never even seen him have a visitor!

I've had a nosey through the letter box and front window and can't see anything out of order.

I'm just worried that if the police come they might break his door down and then what if he is on holiday??

Should add that I've asked around the neighbours and nobody else has seen him either.

Could you ask your other neighbours first? If not, then a call to the non-emergency number is probably a good idea...

He could have gone on holiday.

Have you tried knocking on the door or phoning him?
As you say he may well just be away for a couple of weeks.

I would ring them.

My neighbour wasn't answering his door or phone for a few days and his girlfriend got worried and went round there.

He was dead on the kitchen floor...died of an aneurysm and he was only 37

I've knocked on the door several times. I don't know his phone number or his surname.

I've never known him go on holiday so it's unusual.

Have you teamed up with his next door neighbours and had a look at the back of the house?

This sounds like a case for Scooby Do and the gang.

Same thing happened with a neighbour of mine. He was in his 50s. He was found dead.

I would ring the non-emergency number then.

He does work yes.

Well better safe than sorry then, if you ring the non emergency number you will at least feel like you have not ignored it and done nothing.
Hope your worries turn out to be unfounded though.

Are there any windows open - I'm not suggesting you gain access but to look to see if it appears that something untoward may have happened rather than the house having been secured because he's either gone, or been called, away?

Obviously your neighbour could be on holiday (let's hope so) but if he's a bit of a loner, you just don't know.

That's why I think it was better when everyone had milk delivered. So often you'd hear of the Milkman ringing the police when the milk's not taken in.

I phone them, they are going to get someone out asap. They were very nice about it and said I'd done the right thing.

Hopefully he'll saunter along the road wearing a panama hat and carrying a suitcase before the police smash his front door in - for which I doubt he'll thank his concerned neighbours.

I would have thought that his employers would have alerted the police if he hadn't turned up for work for the past 10 days and they'd not heard from him, which suggests that he could simply be on a 2 week package holiday.

Hoping for a good outcome. Had something similar happen, and called the police, neighbour was just away thankfully, though he would normally have told us.
